I bought a TA503 about 2 years ago and I love it - loads of tone and punch. I matched with the markbass 151HF and 210p cabs and my tone really punches through the mix. It's very well built and sturdy - I keep it in a laptop bag in the bands locker and it's not suffered any damage. Although I do have to admit I went from a 15 year old battered Peavey combo and bought it off the net without trying anything else out so I can't honestly compare it to equivilent gear.
8,000 metric arseloads of compression.
I hate it when people get technical!

Same here, ass & bass both around the 9-10 mark.

How did you find it within a band envoironment?

I genuinely love both these pedals but am looking to re-jig my pedalboard so something has to give. I'll let thew BassDrive go for £105 posted, or £100 collected. The MXR Flanger for £75 posted, £70 collected. They are both in mint nick as they have never left the pedal board and I look after my stuff. (I know, I know! I'll hoover my rug tomorrow!) They are both boxed, the bassDrive has a manual, the flanger didn't come with one but did come with a dunlop power supply which will be included.
Dan, I'd recommend the Diago power products
+1

Well if your not bothered about it doubling as a DI then I may be reluctantly selling my Fulltone BassDrive, PM me if your interested (oooh shameless plug I know )

I bought this Markbass rig almost 2 years ago and love it. Warm, variety of tone, plenty of power and punch. But I went from a crappy Peavy combo that was battered and I'd had for about 5 years so I got nothing to compare it with. TO be fair, there may well be better amps out there, but this does a great job for me.

How important is theory and reading to you??
burno70 replied to JakeBrownBass's topic in General Discussion
I learned to sight read so I could play some classical songs that I liked when I first learned to play the bass and this became invaluble when I did my music degree later on. To be fair I hardly ever use it now. Although occaisionally if I come up with a tune and have no means of recording it I'll jot it down on a scrap of paper. I still find theory handy when I'm writing songs , I may look to go to a 5th say or work out the notes of a minor 9th or whatever to add something to a song. But that's about it really. No students have ever taken up the offer of me teaching them proper theory. Useful but by no means compulsory. -
Theres hundreds out there - It would help if you could give us a bit more info to work on - How much do you want to spend? Do you want a bit of grind or full on dirt? Is pedal board space an issue? Would you like one that doubled as a D.I? etc.

I haven't that much experience with fuzz pedals having previously only tried out the Pickle Pie (which I didn't like) but I find the Assmaster quite tweakable. You should be able to find a setting in there which will cut through the band mix. Mine does, effortlessly, but then, I only have one guitarist in my band to compete with and my amp is bigger than his We all like different tones and fair enough but the sound of the Assmaster totally blew me away - Toasted, what was it about the sound of this pedal that you didn't like?

I bought an Akai Headrush for £100 about 2 months ago and love it. It doesn't have the features of the Jamman but as a straight forward, simple looper, it's the balls.
Cream Pie>Tone Hammer>Analogue Filter(442 red)>Cream Pie>Hellbaby>Rehoused Bluebeard Fuzz.
Man, 2 Cream Pie's that just plain greedy! Sell one to me now! (trying to use the force here but it doesn't seem to be working!) Joking aside, is there actually any difference, soundwise, between the two? Do you have each one on different settings? Nice collection by the way!

Where abouts are you playing on the fret-board? I have an OC-2 and it distorts if I go lower than the low C on a regular tuned based. anything above this and it's lovely - speshially higher up.

I haven't any experience with either of those pedals but have read more than a few less than encourage threads relating to both. You may want to check this tb thread out, it might help you find what you're looking for:- www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229874&highlight=compressor Hmmm, I can't seem to get the above link to work. Go to talkbass and search the effects forum with the word compressor. Look for a post by bongomania called "compressor review megathread".

I got the Markbass 151HF which I use with a Markbass amp and the 210p and I get lovely tone, plenty of bottom end.

I'm with Katri in that I don't like the look or size of them...and I'm a fan of the Markbass amp look - yellow speakers and all! But I don't think it's fair to presume that they are sh*te just cos they have a look of Ashdown about them (At least not yet). The proof will be in the hearing - although does anybody remember their cusotmizeable lego blok amplifier idea from NAMM last year? That still hasn't hit the shops AFAIK.
You seem to be forgetting that Catalinbread do a Trem the size of a Hyperpak You could easily fit them both and a carbon copy in the space between the Fulltone and Wah.
Thats a blindingly good suggestion Higgie - I'd actually not considered that, cheers! Now how much are these trems...more effects porn to look at!
Mario came up with a simple mod to put more voltage through it which worked a treat and it can now go nuts, but I did have to add another switch and solder in two wires to it. He offered to do it for free and pay the shipping and so on, but I figured I'd rather do it myself than ship the pedal back to Nebraska, because it was such an easy mod and I didn't want the Meatwad off my board for a month. I think he was planning to make this mod standard on future Meatwads FTR.
When I first got the Meatwad and used it on it's own I would get a really loud hum, but when I used it in a pedal chain - so long as it wasn't the last pedal in the chain, it was fine. I contacted Mario who said it was a ground wire problem and he offered to repair it but it's never the last pedal in my effects chain anyway so it isn't really an issue.
