1.
If you can get your hands on one of the old late 80's early 90's Boss chorus pedals, you won't go far wrong...
I managed to find a Boss CE1B that is grand. Not too overdone and came with an authentic 'road-worn' look! My advice would be buy 2nd hand from other bass-chatters and then continue the circle of GAS if it is not what you want - like all these things it is a matter of taste.
2. Another vote for the DHA - I ended up getting a DHA VT1-Bass drive and a separate muting DI box from Orchid and have been very happy. Both Dave and the chaps from orchid are nice to do business with too. 3. Ernie Ball 5-String Coated Regular Slinky Bass Strings (45-130) 3836 for sale. Used a few times at home, but didn't like them on my fretless. They sound & feel just like normal roundwounds, I was looking for something smoother (more akin to flatwounds). New cost me £37 from stringbusters. They are in good nick, only issue is that I stupidly cut them to length - fit fine on my 34" scale bass, but won't fit a longer scale neck. Now only £20 posted ONO.
4. PM'd re. Q-tron Plus. Woo hoo!
BUMP WITH PRICE DROP TO 40 POSTED
5. Very tempting - if only I had the funds to hand. Best of luck with the sale.
6.
Yamaha TRB-5II. This is a 35" scale 5-string fretted bass, with 3 band active EQ (bass, mid, treble, volume, blend). 35" scale gives a fuller, tighter low B-string. 24 frets. Good sound, versatile bass. It is the bolt-on neck variant of the TRB. This is a great 5 string and is in good condition. Come and try it. I bought it off a chap from here a few years ago and have been very happy with it. Price £350 includes a hard shell case (although the case does have a couple of knocks on the outside of it). Price includes case, but excludes any postage and packing. Selling to raise funds for a new fretless 5-string bass. Otherwise I wouldn't be getting rid of this instrument. I will try and get some better photos - the current ones are old and poor quality.
Looks like this bass may have just sold - I've had an offer, and am awaiting payment. Many thanks to the others who have expressed interest.
7. Washburn 4 string fretless bass. This is a fretless bass (often called the cricket bat) that is super light and fun to play. According to the serial number it is from 1984, Japanese made. It is an early 80s unlicensed copy of the Steinberger basses of the time, but is made from wood. Supports either double ball end or standard strings. I believe that under the antique paint there is a through body neck, and it certainly has lots of sustain. I've spent a fair bit of time getting the fingerboard flatter and it now plays nicely. This is the one I tend to play most around the house. It comes with the original soft case. This has a few nicks on the back of the neck and body due to it's age, but is very comfortable to play, and is very compact for travelling. As with the Yamaha bass that I'm also selling, I'm only parting with this to raise funds for a new fretless 5 string. It's difficult, but my wife has spoken!

9.
is the yamaha still for sale?
Bass is still for sale, as I've been too lazy to put it on evil bay. Will go up on the bay in next couple of weeks. If you are interested, drop me a message... Cheers, Phil
10. Price drop to £160 ono Bump.
11. Price drop to £180. Anyone interested?
12. Dave, Just a quick note to say thanks for the clear and concise explanations - as a self-taught bass player who's never really moved beyond playing root notes, I've already found the lessons useful and will be spending more time with them in the future. Walking bass lines looks like a great series. Cheers, Phil
13. Price drop to £200. If there are any knowledgeable observers, is this a reasonable price? New it was just under 400, and apart from the few scratches is in pretty good condition and plays nicely. Thanks for any advice that might be forthcoming, Phil PS Must keep reminding myself that it's not about the gear - was at a jazz gig last night in St Andrews, and the bass player was very good. Was using a Wal, but would have been good with anything!
14. Bought a TRB-5II from Vince just before Christmas, and the whole transaction was very smooth. Sent the money via paypal, and the bass arrived the next day, much to my delight. A top bloke, in my humble opinion! Cheers, Phil
15.
bump
Just a note to say that I bought the bass, and am very happy with it. Vince was a top chap to deal with and sent the bass very promptly. Now I just have to learn how to make the most of a 3-band EQ section, and sell my old one before my wife kills me Cheers, Phil
16. Bump. I'm happy to post if anyone is interested
17. Hi all, Having bought a rather nice TRB-5II from somebody on this very forum I have been persuaded by she who snores in my bed to put my old bass up for sale. (Was in line for a defret, but she knows best!) It is a Yamaha RBX-765A fretted 5-string bass. Bolt-on 34" neck, 2-band EQ. I'm afraid the colour balance on the photos is a bit poor - it's a sort of dark aqua-blue. Electronics were overhauled by Chris May at Overwater must be 2 years ago now - was getting lots of noise through pickups. He redid shielding, wiring and replaced jack socket plus redid setup. Bass plays and sounds much better - no noise now even from fluorescent lights etc. Bass is ~9 years old. Was bought from Sound Control in Glasgow, then a friend had it for 6 months, didn't like 5 strings and gave it to me. Has been used for light gigging (church & ceilidhs), and the children have been responsible for a couple of scratches. Not in pristine condition but certainly not bad - a couple of knocks, scratches on back, and bridge and machine heads are beginning to show signs of tarnish (blame my sweaty fingers!) I'm based in St Andrews, local buyers (50 mile radius) preferred. Don't know exact costs for postage but can investigate if necessary. Anyone interested? Pretty please? Then I can justify more GAS in a few months Phil
18.
Unfortunately half-way would cost me about £50 in fuel on a return trip plus take a whole day from me. Since originally putting this up a few weeks ago, i'd decided to strip it down and revamp it. I wasn't expecting anyone to come with an offer so far after really. I think it might be unrealistic to go head with this, I certainly don't want to risk a courier (don't trust them) so we may have to leave this. Hey - what don't you get your RBX765 defretted anyway ? It'll sound the same as the 775 pretty much.
I think I might have to do that - was just being a wuss in case I damaged the neck. What did you use to fill in the neck? I've noticed a variety of different things being suggested from the cheap wood filler to the expensive custom cuts of wood. Regards, Phil
19. It's the same colour as in http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7283 (Although mine still has the frets!) I live in St Andrews (Scotland). Could we meet half-way?
20. This is probably a silly question, but why don't you get the bass posted? Courier should only be in order of £30-50 I'm happy to look after it for you until you return to the UK if that is of help. Phil
21. It's blue-ish (then again, I am slightly colour blind!). I'll try and get some pictures up tonight. Only problem I had with it is the electronics were a bit noisy - only noticed when upgraded my amp to an EA iAmp. Then had the guys from Overwater service the bass, fix and shield all the electronics. Now plays nicely.
22.
More about the iAmp please
I got the iAmp from Overwater. Head unit is the iAmp 350 (sorry - got the number wrong!) http://www.eaamps.com/2005/customercare/ma.../iAMP350Man.pdf 2 cabs http://www.overwater.co.uk/euphonic_audio_cxl_110.htm Hi-fidelity sound - made a decent trace rig sound distant, processed and lacking.
