Been a long time since i made any progress on the amps, essentially with last attempts, chassis's i got made where done oposite to way i wanted didn't have mounting holes and half the holes were the wrong size and the transformers i got didn't perform as well as i hoped. So i've found someone reliable to do my chassis's and i've got someone to make me some transformers to partridge spec which will do some huge low end! heres some pictures of the first chassis with layout on top ready to be marked out and cut.

Up for sale is my dynatone 100w valve head. I've done a little research but havn't been able to find much information on this head on the internet from inspection it appears to have been a quality rebuild on what i assume is a carlsbro chassis. Everything about the build of this amp is quality i.e big transformers, quality caps, good lead dress / wiring. Soundwise i'd compare it more to a marshall superbass but with extended low end so it sounds mint cranked and does nice big round warm cleans. it runs a quad of el34's for 100W's of power. i'm after around 250OBO offer for it. I can ship this anywhere in the world at cost to the buyer. Also have the matching cab with it, can cut an offer if you'd like the cab is of good construction and looks beasty, is unloaded now though. After 100OBO for it. Heres a link to some pictures of the head and cab from the previous seller - http://s892.photobucket.com/albums/ac130/H...mview=slideshow
I vaguely remember seeing one or two of them in the 70s. They look impressive as all get out, but the side by side mids and tweeters indicate that the designer had no acoustical engineering knowledge, and if looks alone didn't confirm that the resulting sound would leave no doubt.
+1 the magnatone amps i've seen havn't really been groundbreaking either. cab looks totally doom though, i'd totally go for one.

played in a sharp through one when i was gonna buy one and had no problems at all.

never realised how doom that is haha
It always makes me laugh, especially on some of the more fruity US forums when people talk with reverence about the "Matamp Factory" like it's a scared, holy place, bathed in clean white light where tonez are made. I wonder if they could see that it's a run-down shed, up a little lane, behind a Tesco, that's completely disorganised with fag ends everywhere, that reeks of smoke with projects that started between yesterday and 40 years ago littered around if they would have the same reverence? I'm not knocking Matamp's product at all but they are very much a case of the British Inventor's Shed, not Googleplex.
you want the british inventors shed though. I was gutted they wern't smoking pipes

man the clip on the ibanez website sounds terrible, you think they'd put a lil more effort into making it sound good
Just a spanner in the spokes about old valve amps. I don't know about new Matamps but old valve amps, in my experience, do not have the frequency spread that we're used to with modern amps. When I used to use them for bass there was no real deep tone in there but what we'd now call low mid. It was only in the 80s when I tried Trace that I realised this deepness existed. Nowadays any good bass amp will give that output but years ago it was different (even tranny amps). I never afforded Ampeg/Musicman etc so these may be different. This might be to do with preamp voicing and/or better speakers rather than power amp response but just a thought. Its not to say valve amps don't sound great, how I'd love one, but I'd want to try it out first. The suggestion of a Matamp with a 'slave in' socket is a good one, if you didn't want to use your pre for any reason just plug into the Matamp pre as usual.
Think it'll be more to do with the speakers or the amps you used not being that great. Most valve bass amps will cover all the usefull frequencys.
Story lads? Havent been about in a while. Just a quick question re secondhand prices on JCM800 bass series. Seen one for €450. It looks a bit ragidy but supposedly its been recently serviced. Is it just me or does the price seem a little high. Any input would be appreciated. I've been after one of these for a while now.
seems a pretty good price to me
So, having had a serious chat with my physiotherapist, my wife (wh0 helps me in and out of the car with the gear) and with a smaller car on the way, I am reluctantly going to have to trade in my beloved Trace Elliot gear for something lightweight and more compact. My ideal bass Nirvana is currently from the AH250 GP11 mk V played through an 18" cab with a 2x10 when the mood takes me. Not the lightest of rigs I play in classic rock bands x2, both with loud drummers and 2 x guitarists, and I usually have the volume set just over half on the Trace head. Is there anything out there that is likely to sound similar? I am guessing TC Electronics - either the classic 450 or RH 450? - or Orange Terror Bass for the amp, but what cabs? I wouldn't begin to know. Or would a Promethean cut the mustard?
i think you might be blown away with the comparative volume you'll be able to obtain with newer more modern lightweight rigs! Heres another +1 for bass terror + barefaced cab

ahh i saw this one in johns workshop. Really not a huge fan of the red iron amps, it looked like it was made out of spare bits he had lying around!
No preamp is a bunch less work and complication, so it might be a chunk cheaper than a full on bass amp.
Materials wise not having a preamp doesn't save much money you still need a phase splitter etc so you'll only be saving on one valve section.

Nice always good getting an old amp full on mullards! It is worth selling them but you wont get anywhere near those prices unless you can prove they're well matched and in good condition.
-
doing it at jons, can't afford to go solo
-
looks like they've been kept in a seriously humid climate, on the upside though you could haggle them down a fair bit!

gave up on the darkstars but finished the course now. I used some wizard 64's and some other pick up covers on top of them ;p heres a picture of a guitar i'm building to go with it ;p

Due to finally finishing my shuker bass, this is up for sale! Right this is a sale for a squire modified jazz bass, and since no one wants it, i'm parting it out. First up is the mighty mite neck, has been drilled already for tuners and hasn't been finished etc. Great neck and i'll throw in a set of tuners with it. It's a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and all usual stuff, i'll get measurements later! Looking for around 35 for it. Body is a squire vintage modified jazz, this is pretty much all spec apart from the internal cavities have been lined. It's in really good nick with no dings etc. heres a link to the spec for the body - http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...rtno=0326702521 Comes fully loaded looking for around 130 for it finally is the badass II these have been fetching around 80 - 100 lately for second hand ones. Mine has been used but not filed, still has original screws etc etc. Looking for about 80 for it. here are pictures shoot me a pm! edit; thats not a scratch on the back thats just the light.

The superbass is awesome, one of my favorite all time amps. Got another one thats in better condition so i'm shifting it on. I'm after around 700OBO on this one aswell. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT I can sort out some more pictures if needed and postage should be around 20 - 30 in the uk.
Most of it is related to how the signals are processed within the amplifier. Class A amps are the 'bog standard' amplifiers that we've all seen/owned/used. Big box with a dirty great transformer to run the power supply inside which is switched on the whole time the amp is in use. Class D amps essentially switch parts of their output stage on and off depending on the signal being passed through them - the power supplies are smaller as they don't need to be on the whole time, therefore allowing smaller and lighter units to be built.
your lucky to get over 20W with a class A output stage to. They sound awesome though Also whats better than a shuttle? get a big doom valve amp ;>

i use a fair few effects since it adds another element to the sound
Bassman amps are reknowned for great tone and incredible clean all the way to 11 on the dial. I don't reckon your amp should be distorting at all unless you put a dirt box in front of it. I guess there could be lots of reasons for your probs; but I think only a tech will be able to tell if there is a valve, component or clone-design fault with the amp. I absolutely know what you mean about Bassman tone too - it's a thing of great beauty. So worth persuing; but maybe you would be better to sell this clone and one of your other amps and go out and buy a real Bassman and go for the 135 this time.
i've never had a bassman that stayed clean over half way over the dial

you checked the polarities on the pedals?
