I'll be keeping an eye out for these!
got in touch with this chap http://www.petra-toroid.ro/en/contact.html and got some toroids to my spec, gonna see how they perform and it's all good will be using them to keep weight down, if not will be getting a chap in nottingham to do the output transformers to partridge spec
 3. Soon you'll be able to get big valve amps that hardly weigh anything and people will still moan about how they wont fit inside their micro cars. The 200watt heads i'll be making will be coming in at 15 - 20kg
70's SVT , v1,3 & 4 =12dw7. v2 12ax7(ecc83). A 12dw7 is an ecc83 on anode 1 and an ecc82 on anode 2, but because they are not heard of over here ( even though Mullard made mine ), people just put ecc83's in the pre's on the svt. So like i said, most breakup earlier. 12bh7's are in the power stage.
yes 12bh7s provide more drive and have more headroom than 82s and 83s so you might actually get a lil more power before clipping. You are right svt preamps do have far to much gain with 83s throughout.
 5.
One high end cab: Not Doom "An 8x10": must try harder. More is more.
high end high wattage things aren't doom either unless their valve and from the 80s
 6. i've seen some go for up to 800 on ebay, the prices have been getting nuts lately
Most of these SVT's are running ecc83's in the pre amp and it sounds like yours was too, with the correct 12dw7's in there they go a lot further without breaking up.
do you mean 12bh7? lowering the preamp gain isn't gonna make it do more watts, just change the tone and make it break up later on the dial
 8. bump will now do for 800 posted each.
Burman. Next!
They are very very nice, especially if you use them with the original valves. They were built with the same no expenses barred approach as hiwatts - great stuff.
 13. Amazing amps these! shame its not one of the pow ones or i'd have this off you no questions asked.
 14.
Steve, tell me more about Copey's amp.
i saw that a bit a ago, looks like a proper beast. Think they were having some problems with it, since the transformers they got were a duff pair.
The lightest all valve amp is probably the Ashdown Little Bastard, or maybe the Orange Tiny Terror (guitar version, but can also be used for bass). They are both low wattage though, having more power requires bigger transformers, more tubes etc and that's when it starts to get heavy! I have a Terror Bass but haven't A/B-ed it against any real valve amps so I can't really say much apart from the fact that is sounds good. I really want to try out the Ashdown LB and may end up doing a swap for one at some point if I like them.
valve junior is lighter than those! my favorite valve amp is probably the simms ap200 just because of the looks and how loud it is.
 16.
Err...isn't that a 4x12, not a 2x12 ?
that'd be one collosal sized head if it was!

 21. it is bridgable, you still have to use two cabs though and this would be a perfect match for one of the mesa 400+'s i'm selling.
