1. i've no idea of the exact weight, but it is the heaviest cab i've ever had the pleasure of lifting.
 2.
Totally suprised these amps have lasted 4 weeks......
me to aswell.
 3.
WTF? I've never before seen a fretless with a fingerboard made of faeces.
quite like the look of the neck on that!
 4. sunday bump, if you want any more pictures / information about these just ask!
 5. i'd be intrested in this to practice doing refinishes on.
 6.
That's a lovely recording, Nigel Is it some of your stuff? I found the bass was too buried in beneath the mix for my tastes, but it did sound tone modelled, yes. Can't quite explain why, but the notes felt a little too 'fuzzy' around the edges. Not very clearly defined - Some kind of delay in the digital processing or something like that? I used to find the same thing with my Zoom B2 effects unit. The sounds were all of excellent quality, but there never seemed to be the immediacy you get without any form of effects. The Line 6 system I had solved the delay problem, but the sounds were all very artificial to my ears. Hence, I don't use effects or modelling these days. Just a great quality bass with a great quality amp Rich.
+1 i thought he was refering to the guitar being digital i didn't even notice any bass on the clip with laptop speakers
 7.
In what situation? As has been said, it's down to the quality and attention to detail of the patch. But maybe you are talking about the Line 6 amp, I keep thinking about the POD.
i've had a pod in the past, couldn't get any good sounds out of it, I'd rather just turn something on and it sound great rather than spend hours trying to squeeze a usable tone out of something
 8.
Ishibashi's policy is that they don't sell new instruments outside of Japan. But they have a great selection of second hand instruments: Ishibashi U Box (Fender basses) A couple of years ago, the exchange rates were in our favour... in January 2008, it was around ¥212 to the pound and a ¥40,000 Yen S/H Japanese Fender (about the cheapest possible) would cost around £320 including shipping and tax. Presently we're at less than ¥130 to the pound (about as bad as it's ever been) and the same bass will cost around £200 more than it did back then. Anything around the ¥55,000 mark will come in at around £650 when it was around £450. I would hold my horses for the moment and wait for some economic recovery. Edit: just realised those figures were calculated at 15% VAT... add on some pounds!
serious gas going on for some bases there! not sure why i want this one even though it looks like its been dragged behind a truck! - http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/ubox.cgi?...p&tid=list3 can you still buy off this site?
 9.
I recently played at a jam night with some lads im in a band with and i played through an amp owned by the pub the jam was at, it looked like an old peice of sh*t but sounded....well...really oomphie! I know im probably not making sense here but the stack i use had no where near the presence and clarity of this bashed up old 150 watt combo, so now im thinking of changing my cabs/amp or maybe both as this had really done my nut! any suggestions on how i can give my own amp and cabs a lift (peavey tour 450 head, 2 x yammy 2 x 10 cabs) or maybe suggestions for what new gear i might possibly buy next would be most appreciated.
what was the combo?
 10.
So which of mine is the Line6? To be honest I think most people don't spend enough time learning how to get the best out of them. I was the same - heard them at shows and couldn't get anything but fuzz and crap out of them and totally wrote them off. I was given an XT Pro in a deal and thought I would instantly sell it on, assuming it would sound horrible. After spending weeks and weeks learning the ins and outs of the thing I started to find that it really could do anything you wanted if you knew how to approach getting that sound. It needed to be teamed up with a poweramp and decent speaker, obviously, as does any amplifier, but as a pre-amp I think it's amazing. I still prefer the Vbass for its unique functions but this whole digital VS analogue thing is completely beyond me, at least, having owned the best of both camps and ending up sounding the same with all of them. ped
is it the second? gonna feel like a twat if i get this wrong hoho, also couldn't really hear the bass on the first one since all i could hear was the click track on my laptop speakers.
 11.
Before you get me running scared I think it means that the transformer is putting out 120V so the primary should be able to accept any voltage
120v on transistors? there should be an internal jumper or switch that you can change to change the primary voltage
 12.
Yup! And I agree on the neck... Very narrow for a 6, but not too tight on the string spacing. Neck feels super solid under the hand. It was a great find and I enjoyed cleaning her up as well. The TRB range really are stunning. Like I mentioned in my first post, unless I get a trade offer to try something new, this will be kept. The 1005 and 1006's are a crazy amount of bass for the money! Shep
+1 on that don't know why they don't demand a better reputation on here and talkbass! Really don't know what i'm gonna do with mine when i get my shuker.
 13.
Pardon?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcYppAs6ZdI...feature=related
 14.
As far as I know, they hew their cabinets from solid tree trunks and line them with lead.
+1 matamps construction methods are a bit more bruteforce than your modern half inch ply with cunning bracing. not to knock matamp though they do make great sounding solid cabs. My 215 sounds the absolute dogs dangleys
 15.
Are you taking the piss, old son? Have you heard valve clipping from a valve amp?
come try out some of my amps cranked and say you don't like the distortion from them!
 16.
Digital clipping is a totally different thing to digitally modelled distortion. Digital clipping occurs from overdriving a digital unit, which is generally a bad idea. (unless i'm wrong, I know you know your amps etc). EDIT: It's like, you wouldn't wnat to clip the input on a digital recorder, it'll just sound horrible and seriously hurt your ears. Compare that to a tape recorder, which might sound nice if you over drive the input. This doesn't mean that you can't digitally model the effects of the tape recorder using your digital set-up.
I was more on about the modelling, overdriving a digital unit does sound horrific though. I do have to say digital modelling has come along way in the last year or so, it still doesn't cop the tones of using a proper amp. Most digital stuff is lowpassed to cut out the high end after a certain frequency because it just sounds harsh, listen to meshuggah and new deftones, both great examples of both how digital processing can sound good but how they've had to cut out most of the high end to make it sound good. IMO if you like a bright "open" sound you really can't beat using a real amp and you'll do even better to go with something with a quad of kt88's
 17.
Can anyone comment on Matamps 2x12 cabinets? Ive seen some of the examples on here and the prices are awesome. Im wondering what they can do; eg a vertical 2x12, sweet high end tweeter (nothing harsh), 4 ohm, lots of volume capability, lightweight as possible, fairly compact? I really want it to be under 60lbs and quite 'compact' for a 2x12. Im just thinking on and GASSING I suppose. I love 2x12s! Ive dropped them an email. Feel free to PM or contribute on the thread if you have prices etc.
While they'll do mostly anything you ask for a price, i think if you want lightweight and small your barking up the wrong tree
 18. pics please, need some gear porn! one or both of these with a mesa 400+ or two would make a great rig ;>
 19. listen to the harmonic content especially around 1k. digital clipping is extremely harsh on the ears
 20.
Where were you thinking of mounting it? I think it will be a ballpain to put it in the cab, it is all separate sections and you've have to go through a few to get the tweeter mounted on the top, wiring from the jack plate. Reckon you are better off making/getting a seperate tweeter box, meaning you can run it off a separate crossover externally, like the Greenboy headcase..
+1 have you thought about respeakering the cab aswell? that may have more of the effect your after!
 21. if you really want special sounding, i'd really recomend trying out a tape echo. You can't beat them for awesome tone
 22. oh fair does, yeah if you have another knocking about that'd be great, it's for a good cause and all.
 23. i have a friend who was on the look out for amps for her learning centre jobbie so i'll ask her if she wants this or not.
