1. shoot some offers could do with getting ridda this
2.
Anyway, to jump back to the earlier part of the thread (I haven't quite worked out how to do "quotes" yet on here!)... A better word to use instead of "gain" would be "attenuation", wouldn't it? In other words, zero attenuation equals letting the maximum signal through rather than restricting it in any way...? Or maybe I'm wrong?
gain is voltage gain.

4. tidy? the normal simmwatts stuff is normally up to hiwatt standard! I think the one up for grabs may be an early example though.
Hi Chaps, I've built a fuzz face for my guitarist but he says that it's not ''beefy'' enough, I use schematic from here http://www.musikding.de/product_info.php/i...3cb450a8ffe5743 So my question is what should I change to make it more beefy sounding, I assume it will be the cap C1 which is 2.2uF, should I change it something bigger like 4.7uF ? Will this sort it out or would you say I should change some other parts as well ? Cheers Jack
personally change r4 for a 1.5k and change the fuzz pot for a 2k, also as said try increasing the output cap to anything up to 1uf and i'd personally LOWER the input cap makes the whole circuit sound less farty and more open, which makes it sound less compressed and more crunchy ie. beefy
8. do want, would you accept any trades for this? ;>
9.
Hi all, I need some advice.. I have just bought my first valve amp, its a trace elliot quatra valve. as you probably know, it runs at 4 or 8 ohms. I like the sound of SWR cabs, so... to go with this I have an SWR son of bertha (1x15 + horn @ 8 ohm) and a modded 2x10 SWR cab running at 2 ohm. Is this ok to run the amp at 4 ohm like this? or will i soon be looking for new valves??!! I would link the 1x15 through the 2x10. should i rewire the 2x10 to 8 ohm? thanking you all kindly in advance... im now on the all valve dream, yay!!
nice buy, i'd rewire both the cabs to the same impedence for a whole hoast of reasons.
10. hiya any vague idea what you be after roughly? Is this pedal similar to a guv'nor?
11. buy my memory man ;o
12. did you just stick a random port in or did you tune it properly to the drivers? Nice work by the way
13. up for sale is my westone thunder 1a, recently got this off taystee it's in great nick and plays very well. The reason i'm selling it is that i've tried to like the whole P-bass type set up but i really can't get it to work for me so i'm going to go for more of a jazz approach. The controls of the front control volume, tone, active tone and the two switches are active/passive and series/parallel. The neck is bolt on unlike the thunder 2 etc. All hardware is brass and looks great. i'm open to trades for a jazz style bass on this but i'd rather just sell it for 120 (they've been going for roughly 130 on ebay at the minute) postage will be around 15pounds in the uk.
14. road ready 1200, is now gone.
15. I've no use for this anymore since i've just picked up a tape echo and an original memory man pedal. It's in great condition comes with the box etc. This is one of my favorite delay / looper type pedals, it does lots of great delay sounds and is very easy to use and get a great sound out of it. heres what EHX have to say about it http://www.ehx.com/products/stereo-memory-man-with-hazarai I'm after 90pounds plus shipping for this (about 3quid in the uk)
16.
[kyuss nerd] Yea, He used his Ovation Ultra Hard Body GP's pretty much exclusivey once kyuss got going, and he played through bass amps quite a lot because they played in C standard and it just sounded better. Not sure about the amps, but Scott reeder and Nick oliveri used Sunn's and Ampegs so I imagine he used those at some point [/kyuss nerd] To actually answer the wuestion, I play my guitar through my bass rig all the time and it sounds great.
was sunn i'm sure, there multi purpose not bass amps ;o Guitar will sound great through a bass amp, maybe a little to clean and hifi for most peoples tastes though!
17.
Nothing that will change the tone there other than the gain pot which will allow for more gain that the click switch does. Maybe the caps on the bass but they mentioned that they tried it and it didn't add anything but no one needs 30hz I said well I use a low A so can we try it.
personally i quite like the staged gain control. Most speakers dont get down to 50Hz let alone 30 so your not gonna hear a huge difference soundwise. Most of what you hear in your bass sound is the 2nd harmonic theres not a whole lot of fundemental in there!
18.
As sent to Matamp Amp internals Slave output (I’ll provide db,v and ohm shortly, unless we can tune this around completion) Standard output on DI with a view to possibly removing the pot and resistor. Preset switch to switch depth, bass, treble and presence controls to internal trim pots. Gain and volume to stay controlled on the front panel Preset switch to be labelled as TaySte If possible I’d like the preset switch to be a big heavy duty one like the power switch located next to either Power or Standby Switch to turn front panel light off Standard depth control but extra caps to allow for more bass from the Low A I play. Gain is to be a pot not 4 position click Aesthetics Red headcase with chrome hardware inc front handles (This should be sat around from before Bassday) Blackface plate with red writing Glowing Green Matamp logo (The 3d cinemascope one http://file017b.bebo.com/4/large/2006/09/2...795756287l.jpg) But it only has to glow in 2d. Custom made for Ste “TaySte” Taylor Circles around inputs to be red Hi Lo inputs to be renamed Active Passive depending on which one has the resistor on it
intresting sounds like quite a reworking you've gone for!
19. put a 400+ and 1516 on ebay. Would rather sell to one of you guys though so shoot me some offers! Also looking for a jazz so will be open to trades for one.
20. psh, you guys should just buy more epic rigs.
21.
That's stupid cheap!!!! Whaaaaaaaat!
think i made a few blunders with my initial post! also bump with actual price for 1516 aswell.
22. heres a picture of the backplate of the 1516 which should hopefully sum up its capabilitys a bit better.
23. first up are two mesa boogie 400+ amps which come with there own head boxes. Can supply with or without these if you want. These amps are true beasts putting out around 300watts from 12 6l6's into 4 and 8 ohms(will do around 500watts when you crank it all the way up), soundwise there like fender bassmen on steroids, proper thunderous and really do that big valve sound. Build quality on these amps is very good, much better than the later ones, with higher quality components used and a better layout IMO The amps are both in good working nick, have both revalved within the last year so the valves have plenty of life left in them and i have given them a full servicing. One of the amps has a full set of mesa branded valves the other has JJ valves. These are both from 1982 - the real deal and dogs bollocks of the 400+'s looking at around 800 for each of them including the head boxes and shiping. Will ship these anywhere in the world at buyers expense. Reason for selling these are surplus to my requirement and i'm intending to start building my own amps comericially so selling these is part of my start up fund!
Not wanting to alter tone at this point, I was assuming the smoothing cap influences the amount of clipping to change the overdrive/distortion characteristics, not cut the high frequencies. The cap is put in series with the antiparallel clipping diodes.
series? this is in a dod250 sort of arrangement right? that'll just affect the frequency of which the clipping will effect, in this case a small cap is gonna make it just effect the high highs (again you can work this out with the rc filter calculator i linked to)
