1. ta dude, just realised how dark and mysterious the picture i took is, i'll try and get some better pictures today!
2. right i've got few new projects that i'm gonna be working; 2 fearful 15/6 cabs built to the "tube" specs converting an old valve reel to reel recording device to a mic / guitar preamp building a valve compressor finishing off high gain valve preamp design. i'll take pictures of these projects as they pan out! i'm looking forward to doing them all though!
3.
You'll know when one goes wrong.....! FWIW have a full set on stand-by. Expesnive maybe.... but better than waiting for a new set and being ampless! As said above they are not that fragile of treated with a bit of respect. (my guitard has had the same set in his MM RD amp for 30yrs and not so much as a pop)
those music man amps are really kind on the valves though if you stuck a fan in their i don't think you'd ever need to change them!
4. This is a hondo II les paul guitar, i've set it up properly etc and it plays very nice. I've upgraded the pick ups with a pair of iron gear rolling mills pick ups and it has a coil tap on both pick ups. it's in pretty good nick with only a few nicks two of the knobs have come a bit loose but that can be sorted with a bit of super glue. these go for around 120 on ebay so if i can get around that i'll be happy!
5.
Please excuse my ignorance folks, but I've used mainly solid state amps until this year. Could you let me know the likely symptoms (on sound, performance etc) of a) an old valve that needs replacing, or a faulty valve. Thanks Chris
when it stops working really, valves aren't as fragile as everyone makes out really. obviously if it starts red plating its probably a sign it could do with being replaced or if they've been used since 1950 they could be getting a little tired and a new set wont do the amp any harm.
6. this is a pix version which is more desirable in the collectors market aswell.
7. the 2ube looks nice!
8. this is making me tempted to make a double neck guitar/bass jobbie.
9. The intro to that first song is exactly the same as an in flames song. It's really annoying me now since i can't remember which one.
10.
No need to match. Swapping is fun.
getting gain matched triodes can be useful in splitters
11.
Just sent this - Dear funkydrummer19987, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Acrylic-See-Through-...140510001r24624 This is the same bass you are selling sans 5 quids worth of LED's a micro switch and 9V battery. You are aware you're trying to rip someone off right? I shall post if a reply comes
it's not though an amp is a bunch of components but put together its worth more than the sum of the parts, can't put a chap down for trying
12. +1 i don't know what hiwatt are playing about at putting their name on these things.
13. It's not really a great bass combo i thought you were more after them from a collectors point of view though! BUMP
14.
QTron gone?
yeah thinking i shoulda put a higher price on it now!
15. reviews say 150watts, i'm guessing its more like 50 and the 150 will be reference to how much current it pulls
16.
I've tried it in the past with an old Selmer valve combo, and the transformer actually burnt out before the speakers did - basses need a lot of power at the bottom end (most of the power is in the fundamental, not spread across the audio spectrum), so basses drive the amps and speakers harder than a guitar would to get the volume. If you're talking guitar combos, the cabinet design is also often wrong - open-backed or sealed, rather than tuned and ported like a proper bass cab, so yuou lose bottom end power/projection too. The high tec solution to using a guitar amp with bass is to use it as part of a bi-amped rig with a crossover, so you're only using it for the high frequencies, and then using a good bass amp+cab for the low end rumble.
it shouldn't burn the power transformer out, unless it was really underrated as is. You'll pull just as much current cranking a guitar through it unless you were really pushing some serious low end. your only concern should be the speakers you play through.
17.
Is it either or on the three loops or could any combination be active at once?
any combination.
18. Next up are 3 custom pedals i built for a guy whos never got back to me about payment after i made them for him so i've decided its about time to flog them on The first is a big muff clone with oc141 germanium transistors loosely based around the rams head era big muff, with increased gain to compensate for the lower gain germanium transistors used. The germanium transistors give a much warmer, darker, compressed sound as oposed to their silicon counterparts and clip much more nicely IMO. i'm after around 60pounds OBO for this. It's the 3 knob one in the picture. Next up is a Fuzz face type clone with a few mods. It uses germanium oc140 transistors (matched by myself for the the "optimum" gain). The knobs left to right are Volume, Bias, Gain, deep switch, input impedence(great because you can stop active basses overloading the circuit) looking for 60 for this one aswell OBO. It's the one with 4 knobs and a switch. The final is a triple true bypass looper which is fairly straight forward looking for 50 for this one. any questions about these pedals just ask! shipping will be around 3pound for each pedal.
like this? thing that confuses me is that it was working, abet with a fault. i tried to fix the fault. put the right cap in the 0.033 nF slot (the first one after the in, second nearest the in on the board) and spotted the 0.01 cap on the out side wasnt there. Fixed them and it didn't work, went back a stage or two and it still doesn't work... :S EDIT: should add. +v linked to battery red pot's wired in correctly (they did work when it did work) ground and battery black on the sleave of the in jack. tip of jack to in tip of out jack to out sleeves linked
check all the caps are in the right way round, also check and double check all the components. If that fails get a magnifying glass and check to make sure there aren't any hairline bridges or cracks in the traces.
20.
Did that Wem combo go?
yeah to someone on ebay, i have a selmer little giant thats in the process of being done up if your into that kind've thing.
21. now all priced to actually sell now i'm 100% sure what i'm doing.
