My ultimate amp head would be the Trace V-Type preamp mated to a 600W MOSFET power amp. Basically, I want a Trace V-Type 600H amp head please. About as rare as the 4x8 cab I have.
why mosfet, mosfet stuff is the poor mans valve.

okay made a thread about the head i built, i've just realised its going to be saturday before i can get pictures of this because its at the practice room. Believe me when i say its in mint condition though and it comes with a padded dust cover. i'm not so sure about another bassman head, or the geddy bass. Although i'm VERY intrested in any valve heads with PTP wiring preferably with 4 output valves. -
A few weeks ago i went on a course that was run by Vyse limited or torres amps. http://www.torresamps.com/training.htm I chose to make the bassman 5f6 but with a dedicated bass channel along with a dedicated guitar one, and make some alterations to the tone stack and so forth. Generally the course taught you the basics on building, modding and maintaining valve amplifiers and was a great learning experience. I forgot to get pictures of it while i was building it so i only have pictures of the finished product. The amplifier sounds great! insanely clean and great really growly as you turn it up towards full. All in all i'd recomend this course if your intrested in this kind of thing although its a bit pricey and i'm already starting to plan an even more perfect head for myself in my head, this could turn out to be a really expensive hobby.

I just finished building my own head so this is now surplus to my needs. This head has 6 kt88's (arguably the best tubes ever made except kt66's) in the power amp which put out roughly 300 clean watts of tube power, so this head should be loud enough for anything you'd attempt to do. I'd like to think it'd keep up with a stadium pa with the right speakers. It only does 4 or 2 ohms. It has a balanced DI out on the front aswell which i can report if you have it post EQ sounds very fat coming through the FOH speakers. The sound of this amp speaks for itself and it has a very tweakable tone stack so you can get a large array of good tones from it. i'm looking for around 650 OBO, not so intrested in trades on this as i'm now selling this to fund the building of my dream amp! also selling my cream pie don't really need it anymore its a great piece of kit don't know how much there worth nowadays though open to trades for another awesome overdrive in exchange for this or hit me with an offer! Front Front off Back serial number - just realised this is really blury i'll try and get a better picture if you want
I dont mean to be picky and I have already upset Burpster, BUT you guys keep coming up with cheaper alternatives to the ER's that are frankly crap. Look at the attenuation published on their website: CE Mark attenuation data (sorry cant get it to format properly. Freq. (Hz) 63 125 250 500 1k 2k 4k 8k Mean attenuation 13.9 16.1 19 22.7 25 32.2 41.1 36.9 Thats not exactly flat! Great if all you want to hear is bass mind!
higher frequencys generally come through alot louder anyways so it balances out
So what? It also might sound great - obviously not in any purist or hi-fi sense, but then the same applies to the amp to a fair extent. There is no reason you have to approach everything from a theoretically 'correct' audio design point of view - a characterful, interesting sound can be much more useful musically. If it wasn't, there would be no point in fuzz pedals or anything else that sounds "awful" in an audio purist or electronics engineering sense. Transistors relegated valves to 'curiosity status' somewhere around 1970 too...
you don't hear people talking about getting that sweet transistor tone from valves.

i think i'll be making my ultimate head soon, 4XKT66 power amp aiming for around ~100 watts, minimal low gain preamp with James tone stack. something that i can crank the sh*t out of and maim small animals with

i had a problem with my warwick head putting out alot less volume than it should but it turned out to be a loose connection, maybe you should get it checked out, or get a louder head ;p
People who take the E string off their basses to fit a C higher up should be given guitars. Especially when they start tapping. A slap and a guitar, that's what he needs.
theres alot more to bass than root note you know, tapping like that sounds alot better on bass than it does on guitar.
Humble is fine This is interesting because I spoke to a friend last night who suggested JBLs and used a sound city back in the 70s and still has it. I do trust his Judgment due to him being in my view one of the best 70's rock Blues guitarists of that time and his experience of working with bass players and sound would be very useful so im meeting up with him tomorrow. I would like to get as much info as poss before buying and to try out cabs first. I think its just what will also sound right for me until I hear it I will not know im the one Playing needing to feel it that's the important bit of course. I'm interested in everyone's ideas so please keep posting it will help I do appreciate it Thanks
matamp 2X15 - great vintage vibe and huge tone.
I may be wrong, Im sure I heard that somewhere. Best thing to do if your serious about gettying a matamp is call Jeff at the factory and have a chat with him. He's spot and he'll tell you the crack. Although Beware, he may leave you wanting one sooooo bad so best to be sure you want one. Fafner? I've never had a chance to try one out though I hear they are great. Any experience?
the matamp factory is bad for your wallet.
After much messing around and waiting around for effects pedals to be delivered, I think I might have settled on this order. Could do with some feedback to see what you think. AMP << Sansamp BDDI << TU2 << Bassballs << CEB3 << TC Vintage Bass Distortion << EMMA DiscumBoBulator << Digitech Whammy << Bass I have an Alesis 3630 going through my effects loop. I like it and it's very controllable yet would it be better to get a compressor pedal to stick at the front of the chain? Opinions appreciated. J
i'd put the TU2 on the second output of the chorus as the bypass is terrible on it and maybe have the bassballs after the emma filter and the disortion after the whammy as i like to run my distortion into my filters although i normally have my distortion set up so you still get a bit of dynamics
10 months? Crikey o_O Thought it was far less. Won't stop me ordering one. Infact, it just gives me another 6 months to save, so I can order it sooner. If you look at it that way
do it. it looks cool and everything think i might be getting a 2X10 or 4X10 to go with the 2X15 not sure yet though

it should fit its a great pedal - the headrush that is!
Hi guys, I want to buy some backup fuses for my Mesa 400+ just in case one goes at a gig. Can anyone tell me where to get one from? On the amp it says "8A Slo Blo" but the fuse inside is a "4A Slo Blo". The acutal fuse says "250V BUSSMDL 4A". I am getting quite confused and I popped into Maplin but they didn't have any 4A Slo Blo fuses. Thanks in advance for any help! Jim.
the one on the outside is a 8amp slow burn fuse i just replaced the one on mine
