aye it should be fine unless your running valve pedals off it or something with a similar draw, but they would generally come with there own power supplys anyway
Inspired by Bilbo, I have nothing but respect for mans love for his music. So i thought i would share my love Punk, i love the urgency i love the speed i love the way i feel when i hear a bass line played in hyper-speed with a nice palm muted guitar over the top and most of all i love the "this is what i play if you don't like it f*ck off " attitude of it all.
woah that was sloppy

Umph, any chance of some pics with the case off so I can see the condition of the transformers and PCBs?
aye i'll get some pictures sorted tommorow! the quicker i can sell this the better i've got my eye on that orange OR-120 on ebay
Is this a legendary Strategy 400 power amp? You can pull half the power valves out and run it at lower volumes if you want.
aye it is, i'd rather not pull out half the power amp valves it's not so good for the transformer ;o i'd rather just get a lesser powered amp. how come you don't like the v6 tayste?

This thing is LOUD you learn to understand the meaning of loud when you use one of these but it also has a volume knob so i've been quite happy using it at bedroom levels without the neighbours complaining. This amp also has a insane amount of head room you can pretty much run it flatout without it distorting, In terms of sounds its incredibly high fi and pretty much just amplifys what you put into it and it will run without a pre amp etc but could do with a clean boost or something in front of it to bring it up to line volume, this is basically the Mesa 400+ without the preamp. The reason i'm selling is because i've never been able to get this past 4 without being told to turn down, and i fancy a change of tone something with more of a vintage vibe, so i'm open to trades on something with a little less power that can be cranked and still has the same fatness of the mesa i'd be looking for around £550ono for this Comes with flightcase which it has spent all of its life in, it currently has a new set of mullards in it and has a spare set of mesa branded valves which i'll throw in for free! These are the best i can do picture wise since i've run out of batterys and my camara only has about 3 seconds of battery life before it turns itself off ;< I forgot to mention this head has been modded at some point i think and a fans been put in so no worries of accidently cooking whatever you leave on top of the amp
Marshall guitar heads have a built in low end roll off so the distortion doesn't sound mushy with guitars. Whether or not that is a sound you are after on bass is preference, but I prfer to *feel* my low end, especially anything around or below a 5 string. That said, Lemmy's bass sound is gnarly as... and there doesn't appear to be much low end girth there.. as I say, it's down to preference.
aye would be going for a jcm600 or one of the jtm series that don't have the roll off, i think lemmys bass still has the epic amount of low end he needs with his 4X15s

its not gonna do a clean sound as per say but it'll do the job
-
i have an orange squeezer clone i've made up does what you want tis very transparant and irons out all the peaks and presents the amp with a steady signal level. unfortunatly i didn't put a switch in it as i was intending to use it as an always on thing.
Well almost ! And all I will say is never again will I use mirrored perspex as a scratch-plate Second attempt and I still managed to put a tiny chip in it (hardly noticeable) Its wired , shielded, the plate is on , the finish is finished. Just the tuners and bridge and then we'll see what it sounds like. This has taken 4 times longer than I thought it would so its a one off and I will not be attempting it again. I have missed my target weight of 6lb but its hardly heavy at 6lb 8oz...its quite compact as well. Final Installment tomorrow.
wow thats sexy! make me a 6 string version ;'< -
ive never noticed any low end loss frrom my cream pie not live or for home practice. What kind of settings did you use umph?
same as everyone else tone at 10 gain at 12 volume full - having head room is great, i use a matamp 2X15 so its alot easier to notice if your loosing low end all though i'm not normally bothered as long as its still pushing enough air

me? i doubt it unless i can get some kind of transport
Hey Andy, No, its not entirely hypothetical... this guy is used to picking up the diagrams of well known pedals off the net, and making his own based on that, with a few added bells and whistles... So, what I was thinking about initially was something along the lines of: (TC Electronics Bass Chorus + Flanger) + (some kind of deep fat phaser) + Delay (if I could find a MUCH SIMPLER delay than the DL4, but that could record a long enough phrase, that would be just wicked, and yeah,. I'd like the normal delay options though nothing too extensive) I really liked the idea of a "Flanger with very flexible controls so you can go from chorus to phaser type sounds"... if you know about any pedal that will fit this bill, let me know. Now, I'd like to have some input from you guys in what specific pedals you would choose that would be doable in DIY and would have good quality and versatility.
how good is your mate at building things? because having all of those in a reasonable sized enclosure would be near on impossible
As long as by tighter low end you mean loss of
less low end loss than the cream pie in my experience
-
the red onions true bypass looper is fairly self explanitory looking for around £50 for this one It has 3 true bypass loops good for getting those tone sucking pedals out of your signal path and it also has a dedicated tuner mute. Good piece of kit i bought this with the intention of setting up a bigger pedal board but it never happened.
something with big humbuckers on it lol...naw seriously.....
big humbuckers > big tube amp > big speakers > big tone
Cream Pie
i thought that till i tried a zoom power drive i thought it would be terrible, but it's pretty much just a cream pie with a tighter low end / brighter highs / more volume on tap / more gain on tap
Oh for f***s sake. If only you'd put this advert up 4 months ago. Was on the look out for one and settled for a VBA. godddddddd!!! Wanted one of these for years. how has this NOT been sold yet!? Somebody end my misery and fill Nash's pockets with your silver.
buy it i don't think your rigs loud enough to be honest.
your knowledge of tone outstands me, all hail your opinion i'm sure that the chances are, some of the gear you like i will think is 'bad tone', whether or not it is is totally subjective. and fyi, the eq knob on pedals means you can adjust how much high or low end you get, thus turning down the high eq control on an odb-3 or a blowtorch will reduce 'high end fizzle', you'll go to bed a wiser man now but tbf if you dont know how to use a pedal as simple as an odb-3, its quite worrying
/face /palm
I don't think there's such a thing as 'bad tone'. Every tone has a home somewhere. Depends on the style of music, and what other people are playing around you. So there's 'bad tone for the situation', but not 'bad tone'. As evidence I present this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLr5EXyoQCE
true theres a time and place for everything, but if you don't use things in the right time and place it can be bad and i generally consider anything physically painful to listen to as "bad tone"

i've recently got myself a fretless neck and i've feel i'm starting to get technique down so could anyone recomend me some good songs to learn now to push my playing along a bit with it?
