hi there, the main idea behind this post is to find out if there is any difference in the sound depending on a vynil/carpet/bare wood. it seems the more prestigeous/older cabs are vynil covered, does this mean a thing... also who like's what.... your veiws on aethestics please! ben
green vinyl and no it wont affect the sound

Sounds mint through my Matamp cabs. mmmmm.
aye i'm gonna get one of their 2X15 cabs, that head is seriously worth it though, had the matamp factory shaking with it on 2.
Matamp have just started making the classic 200w bass amp again. If I had enough money I'd get one, but there guitar heads are over a grand so im guessing it wont be cheap. I have two cabs they made for me which are amazing.
its 1400 and possibly the best bass head ever.

Welcome to a new world
may try that i've been running my cream pie after it and always have it on the pickle pie seems to be the only fuzz that seems to get better by not having it first in the chain ;p

aye solid states don't handle being cranked to well they distort pretty badly in my experience
Sorry, by that i meant wattage...the 2x12 is only 200 watts!!! How rude!!! And it's a 4 ohm cab! I see that the Bass Merchant in Essex is selling them!!! They certainly look mean, that's for sure!
at 103dB @ 1w/1m you only need that much power ;< unless your intending to kill children with your cab
crowther prunes and custard will get you the hysteria sound close enough. Big muffs will not.
well considering he used a sovtek big muff and a oc-2 on it i'm pretty sure it should do ;p i got pretty close with my octoplus and big muff
-
bottom feeder first obv then distortions and i'd turn the tone down on that big muff unless you modded the tone circuit
-
i got a boss - rcl10 does the trick for me fattens things up doesn't colour your sound at all

What amps have 'growl' or just, suited to heavy rock/metal situations?
umph replied to Adam.M's topic in Amps and Cabs
Maybe i should just get something cheap and cheery, and save up for a Gallien Krueger GT2001RB...
well you could buy my warwick protube IX if you want 900watts into two channels can do pretty much anything you want it to. -
What about Warwick amp heads? they look good for the money... the pro fet V, but will it not deliver the tone im after? i could dirty it up a bit with pedals, i just got a fulltone fat boost which may help...
i have a protube IX it definatly growls, i'd look into getting a something with a tube preamp atleast if you want some proper growl solid states just don't seem to do it. -
for guitar an orange thunderverb 200 with a marshall 4/12 sounds incredible. the tone is amazing and if you use it with a volume pedal the valve distortion is something else, its amazing for down tuned guitars especially cos it was set up to use as a bass amp as well. never used the bass head (the ad 200) although i did use the bass 4/10 and 1/15 with my SVT classic and the cabs sounded beefy, they have a pretty warm rounded sound and could take loads of power. the bass cabs are solid. as with everything its down to personal taste, but its solid equipment made in the UK so the build quality is good. although i think technically its only assembled in the UK these days with the components imported. In terms of the Orange vs Matamp debate the original orange on sale in the 'Orange' music shop was designed and built by Mathiew Mathius or whatever his name is so the first orange was the Orange Matamp. After a while orange and matt split ways. Orange took his design and went slightly more mainstream and Matamp kept it real yo! but they're still very similar amps. I think orange use PCB's (printed circuited boards) where as in a Matamp everything is still hand wired component to component. I personally think hand wired amps sound better and they're definitely more reliable. The 'Green' Matamps are the ones made by Jonathan Green (I think that's right!) who was one of the dudes that worked with Matt at the beginning. The other cool thing about Matamp is cos you can go to the factory and speak to the dude that makes them you can customise/personalise it in any way you want. To conclude... Orange's and Matamp's are both make amazing valve amps that'll blow pretty much any modern equivalent out of the water but Matamps are a little cooler cos you know your amps been made with love just for you. awww. Matamp do make a 200 watt head that can be used for guitar and bass, its well simple and just goes super loud without distortion and they're talking about making 400 watt one also. might get one made one day just havnt got a spare £1400!
matamp are making a proper bass head soon ;p
