Today felt like that moment in Star Wars when they try unsuccessfully to put the Millennium Falcon into hyperdrive..... Have a listen to the video then read on. Got this beauty home yesterday and just about to A/B test between my rehearsal and gig cabinets when it did this at power up. 1. - it didn't do it in the shop (used my own super compact cab to audition the amp) 2. - the noise is even worse when plugged directly into sockets around my house - gets louder and cracklier. (the noise you hear was when plugged in via a surge protector which made things marginally better). 3. - Plugged in my Trace Elf practice amp (via same plug sockets) and it was completely silent. Been back on the phone to GG who have been great and told me to bring it back for them to investigate and they have also put a hold on selling the amp I traded in (in fact they are going to give me back my old amp while they get this looked into). Any thoughts? Are these amps known to be noisy or sensitive to power sources? Is it the fans? I really want this one to work because it sounds amazeballs otherwise. PXL_20230813_160508249.TS.mp4

Mark Bass Little Marcus 800 has gone wonky during soundcheck - it's like the top end has gone and it sounds all boxy. Soooo.... My little Trace Elf had to step in as backup - it actually drives the BT2 really well, so much so that the sound engineer had me turn it down to about 1! This might be down to the sensitivity of the BT2 as much as the Elf? I'm thinking it's like a Chihuahua getting it on with a Great Dane!

Nothing stamped or moulded on the covers. But done a little more digging. There's a number 048614 stamped on the bottom of the pickup. This, it turns out, is the Fender part number for the bobbin which (according to a thread on Talkbass) changed to plastic in 1999. Therefore appears to be stock pickups. Just to confirm the Greasbucket thing now.

Now tinkering a bit with my '07 Fender Highway One Precision. Can anyone identify these pickups? Are they stock? Also...am I right in thinking this is the Greasbucket circuit with the extra cap on the tone pot?

Taken from my MIJ Sadowsky Metro Express (they were on it when I bought it new 2 years ago). Very dead (but not mucky/gunky). Unsure of guage but feel like a thicker G to a lighter E so maybe 45-100? (Total guess). These are free. I will cover the envelope and stamp (UK).

Enjoying this thread...my '74P is 9.75lbs and I can't play it for 2.5 hr gigs anymore...end up like Quasimodo the next day. From that chat here that doesn't appear to be overly heavy but bloody hell it feels like it next day, maybe an age thing? (Age of the player : another variable in the mix along with weight, tone woods, neck dimensions?)

Hey all, been quiet as the bass has now been away for 4 weeks getting the full treatment and I thought I would share the update that I've received... It's in the final stages now, the lacquer has had a week to fully dry and been polished up. The frets have also been tidied up. There's been a wee snag with the tuners...they don't quite fit - too tight. Rather than buy new tuners, there's going to be 0.5mm filed off the edges then a lacquer applied to seal to avoid oxidisation. It was either that or new machine heads. The pictures show the problem. Hopefully be able to share the final result soon.
