  1. I promised myself I wouldn't sell this one but the recent acquisition along with the one-in-one-out policy means this one has to go. It's obvious what this bass is aspiring to be - Jaco on a budget - and it does it pretty well. It has a really slim neck with a worn in feel. Hardware is Wilkinson however somebody at some point out a Squier neck plate on it. Everything works as it should. Currently strung with Fender flats. Based in Edinburgh, pop round for a coffee and a try out but can meet up somewhere in the area too. Thanks for looking.
  2. Ok, last status update for a couple of weeks as it is now away for the respray. It's also getting a vintage tint on the headstock. Tried out the hardware, all fits fine...
  3. All gold shiny bits plus all the minor details (strap and blue picks) all now arrived. He doesn't know it yet but The Guitar Doc across the water is getting a call tomorrow for a request to be added to his waiting list for respray and assembly.... I'm already aware of the things that might not be right so far....three things at the headstock are bugging me : 1. Headstock Wood is too anaemic, needs a vintage tint. 2. Need the patent numbers on a decal under the Fender logo. 3. The string retainer is round. It should be square but I cannot find one in UK for sale. Next update will be after the respray. If you think I've missed anything please shout.
  4. 1st consignment of shiny gold bits has arrived...
  5. Hey all, happy weekend! The feedback here has been great and thanks for all your input as it's really helped shape my thinking. I guess my thoughts have evolved since I started this thread. I started as " I want a Deaky bass, how should I do it?". But now I've bought this Highway One and so my thoughts are, " How best to turn this Fender Bass into a Deakey Bass?" I guess I'm now focussed on customising a John Deacon spec Fender P rather than trying to do a 'bitsa' (I mean absolutely no disrespect or snobbery towards bitsas whatsoever because ...uh oh I'm explaining which means I'm digging a hole)- right, I just want to do what I want to do which is take my newly acquired Fender Highway One Precision and customise it to be THAT bass. So I think there are some things I could do cheaper and some things I will decide to throw cash at. Don't know how that will shape up but will continue to seek help along the way. Later dudes. C.
  6. Yeah I have a Vintage (the JHS brand) fretless jazz loaded with Wilkinson hardware and it's not too shabby at all.
  7. Am I right in thinking this is the Pete Cornish rack built for John Deacon?
  8. Shopping list... Gold Strap locks - Schaller? Gold Neck Plate - probably “F” stamped and in a black plastic tray? Gold Neck Plate screws Gold Machine Heads - Hipshot HB2 or Gotoh (might go Wilkinson if budget starts to get fried) Black/White/Black Pickguard - ideally with the truss adjust notch Gold Pickguard screws Gold Knobs (from pictures they look like dome rather than flat top) Gold Jack retaining nut & washer (if this even exists) Gold Bridge - Schaller roller (I'm on it!) Gold string retainer (square, not round) Anything else?
  9. Update : taking stock of the "don't defile the family heirloom" vibe from you good people, I've sourced the donor bass elsewhere! A Highway One Precision - currently sunburst but hopefully won't cause too much consternation here with a black respray.l! Still now to get all the gold bits but it's a TV logo with the truss adjustment at the body end. Also I'm never going to be passing it off as something it isnt (e.g an Encore with a Fender Logo) - something that never sat well with me. Further updates to follow...
  10. Folks, thanks for all your input, will report back in due course. Although I initially ruled it out, I am still toying with the idea of respraying my (all original apart from the tone pot) '74 Precision.
  11. Thanks chaps for the guidance. Will report back in due course. As ever a picture speaks a thousand words so here's what I'm aiming for...
  12. Ok here's what a want to build : the last version of the John Deacon Precision : the black precision, rosewood neck, black pickguard, tv logo, gold hardware. My question for you people : what's the best place to start as the donor bass? I've thought about... My own '74 P. (Currently sunburst). Fook, that £2.5k of bass that's gonna get an unsolicited respray. Might be a pricey folly. Then add gold HW. Or A MIM Nate Mendel and strip the C.A.R and respray black. Then add gold HW. Any other options? I'm looking to be as accurate as possible so although I'm open to buying even a squier and putting on a new logo, I'd have truss rod adjuster at the wrong end and that would really bug me... Price for the project, let's not go custom shop silly but I'd like to do it for less than £1500. I intend to gig it. Any ideas?
  13. Excellent condition, boxed and Velcro on the bottom. Now surplus to requirements so moving it on. Happy to post in UK (1st class, signed for) for an additional £5.
  14. Update 22 Jan - price dropped to £200 A really awesome bit of top spec kit. An 'always on' bass preamp and DI that is basically a Mesa Subway amp without the power amp section. Great for for sending to FoH, backline and IEM thanks to the dual XLR outs. Velcro on the bottom but I also have the four screw-in rubber feet. Boxed and in mint condition. Hard to find in UK at the moment, could only find one new retailing at £359. Price to include posting in UK (1st class - Signed for) although you are welcome to pop by for a chat, a coffee and a try out if you are local (Edinburgh).
  15. Posting for my son who has inherited my bass habit. Over the past few months he has developed a hankering for a US Musicman Stingray but after forecasting his financial income (pocket money) realises he needs to do a 3-into-1 trade type arrangement. So ideally the following 3 basses would go in a single straight trade for a US Musicman Stingray (4 string, single pickup models only). We reckon the three basses would land at the price of a secondhand Stingray (£1350ish). Details follow: Ibanez SR506 : usual SR series fast neck and a great way to get an affordable and easy playing six stringer. Has a couple of small dings on edge of body but really clean otherwise. No gig bag unfortunately. Status Energy : Ash body and fitted with hipshot detuner (original tuner included). Also comes with a Hiscox Status branded case. Bit of thumbnail grazing above the pickup but otherwise in great overall condition. Status The Groove : this is the bass that has given him the taste for a Stingray. Awesome sounding bass from the triple coil pickup (I seem to recall one is a dummy coil?). Excellent condition. Includes generic gig bag. Soooo.....ideally the world would be nice and neat and someone out there is willing to part with a US 4 string single pickup Stingray in straight exchange for these three. We realise the world often isn't that perfect but let's give it a shot.... More pics available upon request. Ideally meet up for trade (edinburgh and central belt) rather than trying to post.
  16. Ibanez SR506 6 string bass in excellent overall condition. Brown mahogany colour. Despite being a 6 string, the neck is fast and slim, typical of Ibanez SR basses. Bartolini Mk1 pickups, 3 band EQ, Hi-Mass Bridge. Couple of dings (pictured). No gig bag or case I'm afraid. Prefer collection (for socially distanced tryout) or can meet up in Edinburgh-ish Update - have posted a new ad which incorporates this bass so withdrawing this one
  17. An itst bitsy teeny weeny Nano boost pedal by U.S pedal makers, AWOL. Takes up hardly any pedalboard space and delivers totally clean boost - I've used it as a transparent boost to even out the volumes between a passive and active bass (on to boost the passive bass, off when using the active one). Boost level controlled by a knob on the back of the pedal. AWOL are a pretty small maker and I don't believe there's another one of these currently for sale in the UK. Original box, sticker and wee velvet bag all included. Happy to post for an additional £5 (first class, signed for). Any Questions just shout!
  18. So every now and then I think to myself "I really need and octave pedal". Then I buy one and decide I don't after all (this will be the third such occasion). So up for sale is a dinky wee Markbass Octave Raw pedal. Velcro on the bottom but never gigged. Boxed - even the little rubber feet are in the box still unused. Selling at 65% of what I paid for it new plus £5 for postage (1st class, signed for).
  19. So this might have been covered before - but I've seen a fair few YouTube pedal reviews where they use a looper to capture a bass line then do lots of knob twiddling with the loop playing to demonstrate what the pedal does. Makes a lot of sense as you have a consistent input and can clearly hear the difference when adjusting each fx parameter. This inspired me to use this approach to 'tune' my own pedalboard. Yeah sure once we get gigging every room will need some EQ tweaks but this has really helped me get the sound in my head in quite a controlled manner. Just using a really cheap B1on to capture the loop. I'm not a massive fx guy, just compression, EQ and a teeny smidge of drive - usually with a '74 P Bass. Recording just a simple loop then made it a 10 minute job to get the pedals set up just as I wanted. Anyone else do this? Is there an even slicker way of going about it
  20. Andy, I've been a little apprehensive about commenting because it was me who bought The Groove Bass just ahead of you. However it looks like things have turned out very well in the end - that's a beautiful bass you have. Here's the Groove settling in with the existing Energy bass. Feel the start of a wood neck Status collection coming on...
  21. Just bought a lovely Status bass from Martyn. Seamless transaction, quick shipping and bombproof packaging. Many thanks Martyn.
