1. Okay - so in summary I appear to have purchased some sort of AVRI Frankenbass which is all very strange given that it's brand spanking new: From the 64 AVRI: Sunburst pattern (brighter), nitro finish, tort guard, lower mounted tug bar, neck plate with the serial number stamp (no "F" stamp on neck plate) From the 74 AVRI: 74 routing for bridge pickup, Single slot bridge barrels, U shape bound/block neck, Large TV logo, "Fender" stamped 70s tuners Maybe Fender had a few odds and ends left of each AVRI before they switched over to making the new "American Original" series? Be interesting to get Fender to comment on this one.
2. Good shout - I've dropped a note to GG accordingly. Maybe all this needs is a set of lollypop tuners to completely confuse the vintage.
3. Oooooh hang on though....I think this might mean I have a nitro finish body rather than poly (a good thing). It certainly has a smell to it.
4. Singly slot bridge barrels (correct for 70s)
5. Hiya LewisK1975 - that's what I was thinking....but the bridge pickup routing is correct for a 74 (the pickup would protrude more from under the ashtray on a 64) so it really is strange. I'm comfortable with an oddity as I love the way it plays and sounds so not thinking of sending it back.
6. Hey folks, Decided to take advantage of GuitarGuitar reducing the prices on their AVRI range now that the American Original series have landed. Bagged this 74 AVRI for American Standard/Pro money. Couple of oddities though - tug bar below the strings rather than in thumb rest position and a tort guard rather than black. Everything else stacks up as it should (including certificate, serial number, neck profile, bridge pickup position, case candy etc). Any ideas? Just random change of spec?
7. Price Drop from £55 to £50 (incl postage) Fits USA '67-'82 Fender P & J Bass for drop tuning. Also retrofits US Geddy Lee, reissue '67-'82 Fender. Fits 11/16 headstock holes. In excellent condition. I have taken this off my '77 precision. (I have a 5 stringer now so this isn't required)
8. I'm not sure whether this is a 60's or 70's Ranger (maybe someone who knows more can help), nevertheless it's a lovely guitar to play, and built like a tank - evidenced by the fact that there's still so many of them around today. It's picked up a few dinks and doinks in its life and there's a bit of checking in the varnish here and there as shown in the pictures. Includes a cheap (but perfectly serviceable) carry case. Any questions just shout. Thanks.
9. Ok, the thin out of the herd continues... I've had this for a couple of years now but my current gigging repertoire doesn't justify me keeping this on. This is part of the Ibanez 'Bass Workshop' series and is a joy to play - slim neck, nice and light. There are a few features that make this stand out from other basses that are simply defretted versions of a fretted bass : ~ Fingerboard goes all the way up to the neck pickup - 30 frets equivalent! ~ Discreet line markers on the edge of the fretboard - you can see where you are but still maintains the uncluttered aesthetics on the front of the fingerboard ~ In addition to the twin Bartolini Mk1 pickups, there's a piezo under the bridge which really brings acoustic properties to the instrument. Currently strung with flats. It has a couple of wee dinks (pictured) but otherwise in excellent overall condition. It didn't come with a gigbag, but I can include one in the price. No trades thanks. I'm based in Edinburgh, happy to meet up Central belt.
10. Price dropped to £980 to be more in line with similar models I have seen for sale here and recognise that there isn't a tweed case with this one.
