Victor Wooten on the other hand, with his brace of Fodera basses has always sounded amazing. Mind you, Marcus has played enough boutique basses over the years to know what he likes and what he doesn't like. That said, it doesn't take much effort to get a better tone than he has so I suppose it's a case of horses for courses.
Marcus doesn't have high standards of tone, you say? It doesn't take much effort for you to get a better tone than him, you say?? Go and dig out "The Nightfly" by Donald Fagen, have a listen to "Maxine" and "The Goodbye Look" and reconsider those statements. Then post something you played on that demonstrates how you get a better tone.
 2.
I'm looking to upgrade from my Fender Jazz into "super jazz" territory. However, my knowledge of the upper end of bass manufacturers is somewhat limited, so I need your help. At this early stage all I'm looking for is as many brands as possible that I can then research and narrow down into a shortlist of basses to try. My budget is up to £3000, although I would be prepared to go slightly over for something special. I'm also very much open to buying used. Thanks guys. Adam
Check out this vid of Travis "Son Of Larry" Carlton (Robben Ford, Scott Henderson) with his Xotic XJ1T 5 string. When he says he switched from a bass he'd been totally loving for 7 years that bass he switched from was a Sadowsky! Bass Direct are selling them.
 3.
Oh, fer cryin' out loud.... Packaging fail, or....?
That's almost something like what I said! No, very well packaged (box inside a box separated by chunky polystyrene) and packaging undamaged, so looks like it went in like that! Been very impressed with Thomann so far so will soon see what their aftersales is like. Early impressions in the 5 minutes I had to spend with it are; perfect size for my needs, not heavy, looks great, head is tiny, spray on finishes are delicate and it's far too loud to try in my kitchen, even with the master almost off! Full review after tomorrow nights gig (wedding, 6 piece band in small venue).
 4.
Grown man with 3 kids who really should know better has to report his excitement at just ordering Promethean P5210 2x10 combo from Thomann. Can't wait. Hope it's as good as everyone says! By the way, how long do Thomann take to deliver after payment?
Amp arrived today right in time for tomorrow's gig HURRAH!! Will have to go back to Thomann as one corner of the cabinet is damaged, BUGGER!!!
 5.
Hope the Jazz AND the Promethean do the business (well I know the Jazz will). And remember the the review of the Ibanez for all of us with gigantic amps and flats on the 3rd floor.
Will do. Loving the Jazz! Even started to get used to the DR's. Yes, heavy amps and 3rd story flats are not a happy combo! I know, I used to live 4 flights up and used to own an SWR Goliath, ouch!
 6.
Another user of the 1x10 here - gigging it 7 times this week! Have ordered the 1x10 extension cab and can't wait to use it in anger next week, going to order a couple of custom covers for the combo and cab also. Superb piece of kit!
Great! Yeah I'll be getting onto Roqsolid for a cover as well. I'm also going to make a box to stand it on to lift the speakers nearer ear height.
 7.
Awesome! Welcome to a select gang of cool people who are both handsome and witty. I may be wrong, but I think you'll be the first BC'er with a 2x10. It should be fab, but I'd love to hear what you think...
Cheers! Yes, I could be the first one. Hoping it'll be exactly what I need for the kind of gigs I do. I've no doubt I'll be wetting myself with excitement so much that I'll be dying to let everyone know what I think of it. Your reviews of the 1x10 were part of the reason I went for it, that and it's small, powerful and inexpensive, a 500 watt, 4 ohm, 2x10 amp, couple of sets of strings and a stand all for less than 700 quid delivered and with 3 year guarantee! The only thing that could make me happier would be a weekend trip with the family to a delightful part of Scotland to pick up an MIJ Jazz, so I think I'll do that tomorrow!

 9. Recently sold my beloved Warmoth Jazz to Skezza. Top bloke to deal with all the way along the line. Highly recommended.

 11. how's about a few pictures???
 12. Can vouch for the loveliness of this bass as it was mine from new. Would have it back in a flash if I had the cash.
Hey guys. Decided to separate my adverts. Up for sale is my loved Fender Deluxe USA Jazz bass 5 string. Features the more favored 4/1 headstock, Montego Black/Gold Scratchplate combination with a lovely Maple neck. 34" Scale This bass has had the some what anemic original active electronics taken out and replaced with a John East J-retro Deluxe which gives you ultimate control over your bass. Features Active/passive switch, Bass, Treble, Extra bright push pull switch, Mid volume and Mid contour control, as well as a passive tone control! Maximum knobbage! http://east-uk.com/jretrodeluxe01.pdf Complementing the pre-amp is a set of Seymour Duncan Quarterpounders, lovely hot pickups with loads of grind that can be toned down to a nice full funk sound. All electronics have been FULLY shielded with copper tape. There is little to no background noise when the bass is plugged in. The bass has a lovely Low action which is happy to be adjusted. The Truss rod is working well 100%. There are playing marks on the body which are quite hard to show up under lights. You would have to look at it in the right light to see! Anyway, I am selling this bass for a VERY modest £900. Comes with a non original hardcase (not the one in the photo) Not really looking for trades. Maybe a part ex for a Gibson Grabber or Fender P with maple neck or maybe an Ampeg V4 100 watt valve amp. This bass will be shortly put up on ebay, but would much prefer to do a deal here. Payment via Bank transfer or cash in hand. Pickup is MUCH preferred in Bristol. I will post at buyers expense, thought I would prefer not to post at all.
13.
where are all the Jap Jazz basses?
What about an American Warmoth Jazz with Nordstrand NJ4SE's, an Audere 2 band pre, Badass bridge, swamp ash body and maple neck with ebony fingerboard, in a rather fetching white, as seen in this very same for sale section?
 14.
Just to add, I'd love to accept trades but I'm unable too as I need to pay off a recent purchase. Unless anyone wants to throw in an Aguilar Tone Hammer as a part ex.
Could be interested if my Warmoth Jazz sells next week.
 15. Had the urge of late for a Fender CIJ Jazz, preferably a 75 Reissue, although would consider 62 or Geddy Lee. Willing to swap/trade my lovely Warmoth Jazz (swamp ash body, light birdseye neck, ebony fingerboard, Nordstrand NJ4SE's, Audere 2 band preamp. In very good nick, a couple of tiny marks and bit of satin finish worn off neck where my thumb has been.
 16. I can vouch for the playability of the Deluxe Jazz. It used to be my baby. Plays like butter, balances perfectly, sounded great in it's standard form.
 17. Amazing how losing all that weight takes about 20 years off him! Oh, and by the way, Phil Woods, man!!
 18. If she's selling one of those puppies, can I have the one with the pink nose?
 19. Pictures seem to have disappeared.
 20. Bump just so I can watch it instantly slide down the list again BUMP!
 21. Lovely thing, Mick. Hope you have better luck selling this than I'm having trying to sell my Pedulla. And happy belated birthday!
 22.
I don't use the FX loop on my LMII as there'd be to many wires running around & the chorus (&all the other fx) sounds just fine. I had tried the FX loop & other than the ability to have the effect as layered over the original sound (so you can still hear the original bass sound, which is switchable via a jumper), there's no noticeable benefits.
Cheers guys, that'll do for me, then!
