Exotic Robotalk would be the one for me. The ability to set it up two ways depending on how you play and the fact that it just sounds great seal it for me. Check it out in the hands of Travis Carlton here.
Okthat link doesn't work! Go to the Reality Web Videos on the Xotic site and find Travis Carlton.
This JM5 has not done the rounds. I bought it new from Guitar Works in Reading about 6 weeks ago!!!!!!! I also have the very heavy relic JJ5 that I believe has done the rounds.............but its a keeper.
Oh right! Sorry, my mistake! It seems to crop up in the Basses For Sale section a few times with the same pictures. Anyhow, it's bloody lovely and I want it! -
How hard is it to assemble one? i think im going to use emg for the electronics and they dont need soldering so that shouldent be too bad. But what about bolting the neck on, how hard it that to do?
It's an absolute doddle. Body and neck come pre-drilled, at least I think the neck comes pre-drilled, I can't remember now but it couldn't be easier. Setting it up takes a bit of time but you can go on YouTube for info on that. Lakland have a couple of vids on there that are good.
Bad news today as its now my turn to join the great unemployed....... due to being made redundant after 15 years service. So its with a heavy heart I will have to put up my gear for sale. First will have to be ONE of the two Sandbergs. I bought this JM5 from Guitar Works in Reading only a few months ago. I paid £1100. If it was ordered today the cost would be around £1600. I will sell it to a fellow bass chatter for £700, if it does not sell for this amount I will put it up for a commission sale at the store for £800. The bass comes with a Sandberg gig bag and tools. I also have an Ashdown compact 115 cab that was bought at the same time. It is new and unused as I bought it as a spare. I will sell this for £150. I also have a Ashdown Spyder 550 that was bought at the same time, £400 boxed with uprated valves. Thanks guys. If its picked up I will throw in the strap locks, leather strap and stand........WOW what a bargain...
Sorry to hear about the redundancy fella. Hope you find something asap. Right. This LOVELY bass has done the rounds on BC, almost everyone has owned it at one time or another. I would dearly like to join that club! Whoever the looky bleeder is who now owns it can you please give me first dabs if you decide to move it on!? -
EMG do everything - preamps, pots, pickups etc. If you go the Warmoth route, make sure you get exactly what you want. Resale value is low.
Good point. I forgot to state that I wanted the fingerboard edges rolled and ended up doing it myself.
i think im gona get either ash or maple with a quilted maple top. im looking at emg for pickups, do they sell wiring kits and pots aswell?
I don't think they do a maple body, it's either ash or alder, but you can get your quilted top on either. Yeah, I like the idea of the EMGs as well, particularly the new JVX and JAX ones, both of which come with pots and plug in wiring kits.
Yes mate. Very nice. Even better now they do a thinner profile Jazz neck. Very high quality. I would have to say that the exchange rate isn't doing them any favours at the moment, though. For the price you'd pay to put a nice Warmoth together you could get yourself a nice Jap or Road Worn Jazz/Precision or something similar.
........by the way, as much as I love this swamp ash bodied, birdseye maple necked, ebony fingerboarded, Nordstrand NJ4SE pickup'd, Audere 2 band preamped (vol,vol,treble/bass,passive tone), Badass bridged beauty, if someone wanted to do a trade for a Sandberg JJ5/JM5 I would be sorely tempted to let her go. Particularly if it was for one of those lovely aged finished ones in either cream or baby blue.
-
I know they've got a great reputation, but I'd just like to hear some more opinions of sound, playability, action, quality etc. Also, would like to know if anyone's tried one with the Delano Hybrid pickup system, and if so does it actually sound like a Jazz in passive and MM in active? The aged finishes are gorgeous too.

New amp day.. TC RH450 in the house...
SisterAbdullahX replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi folks Look what the postman just delivered to work, thanks to the lovely Mark at Bass Direct: Ordered it 2pm yesterday.. that's quick! The story: Unfortunately my new car's boot is smaller than my old one, even though it's the same model. Something had to go, and my beloved MPulse got the chop. *gulp* First impressions re: construction... it's a LOT more solid and well-made than I expected (don't know why I thought it wouldn't be). It's a quality bit of kit which feels reassuringly solid, but light. The fitted case is lovely too, and was only 20-odd quid! This is probably the biggest gamble I've made on a blind amp purchase. Most people seem to love them, but a few don't take to them so well. I do know that my previous forays into micro amps have been OK, but I've missed the WHUMP of an old-school power section. I've done my research and apparently the TC is a cut above, so fingers crossed...!
That's the second amp you've had delivered to work in a couple of weeks. Are you hiding them from the wife? -
What is considered the best fretless bass?
SisterAbdullahX replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
Probably not a right or wrong answer to this question due to personnel preferences, but however, what is considered the best fretless bass? Musicman Stingray, Fender Jazz, Status or even something older like an Ibanez Musician or Aria Pro? Any thoughts? Maybe a better question would be what are the best fretless basses?
Pedulla Pentabuzz! -
Hi folks It was ordered from Thomann a couple of weeks ago, shipped as soon as it came into stock on Friday, and it was there waiting for me at my desk when I got into work.... It's following in the footsteps of my recently-departed Walkabout Scout. Now I'm not expecting it to approach the WS in terms of heft and volume, but I can't wait to see what it can do... More to come!
Looks great, just interested to know why you got rid of your Walkabout Scout, as I was thinking of getting one. Would you say the Promethean holds it's own against the Scout?

Talking to the guitarist at a gig last night who was telling me about a mate of his who plays in a Motown tribute band doing theatre shows, he said he's making 50k a year. Gumph! I'm a plumber by day and, contrary to popular belief I don't make 50k a year or anywhere near that but was also talking to a plasterer on a job about 6 months ago who saw my 4x10 in my van and went on to tell me about another plumber he knows who played guitar and joined an AC/DC tribute band, again playing theatres and festivals. He said he quickly got to the point where he was making so much money with the band that he packed in the plumbing! If anyone knows of such a band who is looking for a bass player can you please point them my way!?
I'll admit, in isolation they aren't the best sounding bass, but play one live with a band and you'll soon see / hear the benefits There could be something in that. I went to see a friend of mine playing his at a gig recently and, as he uses a wireless, he walked out into the audience, took it off and threw the strap over my head. He had been complaining earlier how he wasn't happy with the tone, regardless of how he set the controls or which combination of the pickups he used. Have to admit, it sounded great to me. When i started playing it I was immediately struck by the great neck, lovely low action and how balanced the sound was across all 4 strings. I was so struck by it that I went to try one in a shop a few days later and was really disappointed with it. I struggled with the tone the same as my mate. After that there would be no way I would pay nearly 2 grand for one. There are so many other basses in that price bracket to try.

The new American Jazz Deluxes look lovely! Check it out. I had one of the old ones and it was a belter. Anyone tried the new one?

Came across this the other day, http://www.xotic.us/video/index.html?area=...ayer&id=114 tis a great sounding thing, at least it is when Travis "Son Of Larry" Carlton is playing it. Thomann are selling them for a rather whopping £2300. Anybody tried one? Xotic also do some rather nice effects pedals which can also be seen on their site, particularly like the Robotalk which Travis demos as well.
Here is my rig:
Always thought those H&K 4x10 cabs looked very interesting, what with their wizzy speaker arramgement. What's your thoughts?

Neo tone??? Now proved to be no such thing!
SisterAbdullahX replied to bobpalt's topic in Amps and Cabs
Get a second opinion - saying that your sound is awful just before you go on is not what you want to hear and blaming the material used for the driver's magnet is ridiculous. If he can't get a decent sound from your gear, maybe you need a new sound engineer.
My thoughts exactly. -
Best Jazz basses on the market at the moment
SisterAbdullahX replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I dont know about anyone else, but i am loving my Fender Deluxe USA Jazz 5 string. Decent low B and only a 34 inch scale length. Really comfy neck! Rob
Yes, I still love your Fender Deluxe USA Jazz 5 string as well! (I miss her...!) -
Does anyone here have experience on the new BB series and the original BB's. Just wondered how close they are to the original, is hardware easy to change? Are they available fretless? That sort of thing
I had a BB1200 way back when (talking 21 years ago, Jeez..), through neck, had been defretted when I got it for 80 quid. I had it refretted, fitted EMG pickups, Precision and Jazz and an MEC active circuit. I also cut out a section on the lower horn to aid upper fret access, had the neck shaved to a Jazz profile and stripped the finish off, don't ask me why, seemed like a good idea at the time! Was a nice bass, but not as nice as the ESP Jazz I had at the time so I sold it to somebody in Newcastle. Often wish I'd kept it. Would love to know what happened to it. I also had one of the BB5000 5 strings that were being knocked out at 500 quid by Rock City in Newcastle, must've been the first reasonably priced 5 string there was. Balanced well, nice and light. Liked the sound, but the string spacing was too tight for me and the bloody thing would not stay in tune!

Anyone checked these out yet? Sure, they look a little strange but in the hands of Sekou Bunch they sound amazing! They're a bargain in the States through the Carvinworld website, not quite sure whether that will be the case over here but they definitely should be checked out. I would've put a link to the Carvin website on, but I'm a luddite where computers are concerned.
Hi, fitted my John East/ACG filter based preamp to my Warmoth Jazz last year. It's a great bit of kit. The bottom end is absolutely thunderous! However, I think I prefer a more traditional way of going about setting up my tone, and have decided on an Audere pre with a more traditional vol/vol/treble/bass/passive tone, so my ACG is up for sale. Currently this preamp would set you back £205 new. I'm after £120 or thereabouts. Just looking to cover most of the cost of the Audere. Any takers?
SOLD!
