Cleaning sticky nickel D'addario round wounds
paddy109 replied to paddy109's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thank you. I was hoping this was the case but didn't want to make things worse. -
I've just put a set of used D'addarios nickel wound back on a bass. Only a few months old and they have a sticky feel to them and they don't look as bright. Is there a way of cleaning them up?

I had a practice tonight with my old band as I am depping for them in a couple of weeks. The good news is I've finally found my sound that I have been striving for. The difference is going back to round wounds after quite a while with flats. Retrovibe T-rod, D'addario 35-95 round wounds, Evo 500 iii, Barefaced 210. On return home I told my news to my wife 'Ive finally found my sound' and her reply was 'good perhaps you will stop buying stuff now'. Happy times! -
Such sad news. I had the pleasure of meeting Nick whilst buying a bass. He made quite an impression on me due to his enthusiasm. RIP Nick.

Yep, same models as the pictures. Well I might just give it a go and if the holes line up then hopefully just a set up required. I don't think I will venture down the route of drilling and doweling but who knows. Thanks for the reply.

How many of us are in bands that have broken up?

Like your style! -
BTW the T Rod is p bass compared to single of the 51 - so swapping pickups isn't feasible. I'm confident in doing my own set up post neck swap as well.
-
I have a Retrovibe t rod Tele and a Squire 51 Tele. I prefer the sound of the Retrovibe but the neck of the squire. Should I be able to swap the necks without issue and what could be the possible pitfalls of this. The measurements appear the same. Technically it doesn't bother me but I don't want to waste my time. Paddy.

I just had my first practice with a band with newly fitted toneriders p bass pickups (I have always had Kiogon solderless looms fitted to my basses) and they sounded absolutely mint!

Which companies are dead to you?

A local shop 'Martins' years ago sold me a book that fell apart on a holiday to Dominican Republic (it was bloody hot and I thinks the glue couldn't handle it). On return I tried to get a refund to be told I must've dropped the book in the sea. I never went back to that shop no matter if there was something I really needed. The shop has since folded (not because of my lack of funding). Whenever I boycott a shop or online store because of bad service my wife comments 'are they the new Martins'!!! -
Not bass related but I was scammed with an advert on my browser for a camera. All looked absolutely genuine and I still couldn't believe a dodgy advert could appear where it did. Anyway it was an item I wanted at a too good to be true price and I was suckered in. Realised almost immediately as I didn't receive a email receipt but too late to stop the transaction even though I was straight on to my bank. I felt angry and foolish. Just go careful out there with your hard earned money.

A mysterious chip appears on your brand new bass guitar.... you....

E............ Swap it for my immaculate bass. We don't know what basses each of us has, sounds exciting!?! -
Blackstar U700 Elite in fantastic condition. Price drop to £299 - new would set you back about £680 and this is pristine condition. Selling with additional 4 way official Blackstar footswitch. The amp came with a 2 way footswitch so now 6 way switchable giving multiple effects. I would prefer collection and I can drive approx 1hr to meet up. I can offer insured postage and can sort a price dependant on how you would like it shipped. The labels on the footswitch will peel off. I placed these to remind me what each switch does and they are intuitive coloured coded - footswitch lights different colours to correlate with each effect. Paddy.

I have a couple of Nuetrik speakon connectors and want to make my own cable to use from Ashdown ABM 500 to Barefaced 210. What cable do I use and where can I buy 1m?

Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III - fuses blown.
paddy109 replied to paddy109's topic in Repairs and Technical
I had a great chat with Dave from Ashdown. Bad news the amp needed a new power board and perhaps had been tinkered about with before. Good news the amp now has a clean bill of health and should go on for a number of years. Dave was great with his communication and his dry wit made me laugh even though I was parting with my hard earned money. -
Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III - fuses blown.
paddy109 replied to paddy109's topic in Repairs and Technical
After talking to Dave @ Ashdown and trying a couple of new fuses the ABM was sent to HQ today. -
Last night's gig my ABM 500 started well and sounded great then just stopped mid gig. Transpired the fuse under the power in had blown. Replaced the fuse like for like and it blew again straight away. Anyone else had this happen and can share their knowledge, suggest a fix. I've messaged Ashdown. Paddy.
