FS & TRADES: Les Evans Custom fretless 4 - includes additional fretted neck SOLD! FINAL PRICE REDUCTION Cash Sale only. I am selling my beautiful Les Evans Custom fretless 4 string to make way for a new Zoot that will be arriving before too much longer. Owned by me from new and built to my spec about ten years ago it sounds every bit as phenomenal as it looks: Les is based in Liverpool and was well known when his profile was higher a few years ago. I believe he's since given up making instruments and mainly teaches guitar now but we lost contact a few years back. I think I remember someone selling a six string bass of his on BC 2 or 3 years back. The spec of my bass is: Body: Walnut Neck: 7 piece laminate of wenge and maple - soft 'V' profile Scale length: 34" Nut: 1.5" String spacing: 20mm at bridge Fingerboard: Wenge with maple lines and wenge binding; dots in fret positions on top edge Bridge: Hipshot 'A' type in Gold Tuners: Schaller Pickups: EMG HZ (passive) humbuckers Pre-amp: John East U-retro with coil taps (I think, could be phase reversal or series/parallel, I can't remember) for each pickup. Weight: 9lbs (very) approximately Recessed jack socket Sculpted and recessed neck joint for comfort Curved body It's a beautiful bass and drew many admiring comments when I took it to the NW Bass Bash recently but I'm finding medium scale basses working for me a bit better now, hence the new Zoot. The combination of the EMG's and East circuit means there's a huge range of tones available and it sings and growls with the best of them. If anyone's after a unique and high quality fretless this will do the job and then some. I would encourage anyone who's interested to come over to sunny Chester for a play, where tea will be forthcoming and perhaps even a biscuit. Mike Walsh of Iceni Zoot fame made an additional, fretted neck for the bass also, which is included. Same nut width but slightly more traditional profile - still fast and comfortable though. This attaches with wood screws though rather than captive bolts. So, two basses for the price of one! This is a top quality, professional level instrument which cost me a LOT more than I'm asking. NO offers. I'd be willing to consider taking payment in 2 or 3 instalments if preferred. NOW SOLD. I'm happy to deliver for petrol money up to, say, 60 miles or so from Chester. At present I have no suitable packaging for couriering it but I can likely pick something up from my local music shop so delivery is do-able too. Please read my feedback or contact me with any questions or clarifications. Edited with additional photos.

Just bought Dan's Corona Chorus pedal off. Arrived very securely packed and in as new condition. Very pleased indeed. Very good communication throughout and the pedal was sent in double-quick time. Another top BC seller!

I wrote a book about being in a covers band
Bass Culture replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
Just ordered my copy. It's due to be delivered the same day as my new amp. Don't know what that says about me. Dave, as someone who wrote a couple of novels myself in my younger days (which, mercifully for the reading public, I'm sure, remain unpublished) I know what a huge undertaking writing a book is. Writing a good one is even more difficult. Writing a good, funny book is about as rare as it gets I would posit. Really looking forward to this and the very best for future endeavours. -
Go on then, always happy to post my Zoot Custom medium scale: Aguilar pickups and passive electronics. Sounds wonderful and plays like a dream.

Dear Mods, Is there any way of introducing filters or creating a couple more sub-forums in the 'For Sales'? I say this as a dedicated 4 string player who is forever being teased by what turn out to be 5 string or more basses. I'm sure others might feel the same about - for example - maple or rosewood fingerboards etc. I appreciate there's already a sub-forum for left handers but it did occur to me that there might be one or two other criteria that might be deal breakers for some of us. Worth a thought or already been suggested? Cheers, BC

Just back from the Bash - despite a false start when I went to unload on arrival only to open the boot and find one of our cats had stowed away, so had to return to Chester to take the little s**t back. Thanks to Kev for organising. My first Bash but definitely not my last. Splendid people and a impressive selection of mouth watering gear. I'm a convert! Thanks all.
I'm in the fortunate position of having both an RH750 and TF750A... The TF is basically better... Even though I love the presets and tuner on my RH750 and it sounds great, the TF simply sounds more "there",,,
Get thee behind me, Satan! -
Josie. dunno about the pens & paper thing - idea's good, I get where you're coming from but we all sound old enough to talk to each other.
I'll be losing my Bass Bash cherry on Sunday - really looking forward to it. I understand it gets easier and you get better at it after the first time...

I didn't know Vic myself but from that lovely tribute I get a real sense of the man. RIP.

I don't know why Laney don't get more love - they're a kind of like a British (or maybe 'British') Peavey, it seems to me. Good quality kit with decent basic tone with sensible and flexible tone shaping capabilities. I used one of their amps at a rehearsal a while back and was really impressed with it. GLWTS.

D'Addario Half Wounds - any users?
Bass Culture replied to Bass Culture's topic in Accessories and Misc
I prefer SIT Silencers to be honest. Or GHS Pressurewounds. Those D'Addarios were better when they did them in steel over nickel plated.
Contacted GHS, who tell me that neither the Long nor Short scale sets would be suitable for a medium scale length bass. They recommended Bass Boomers instead which, being roundwounds, sort of misses the point really... -
His playing with King Crimson especially was a huge influence on me too. Starless remains one of my Top Ten tracks. Fantastic, soulful voice too. RIP John.

D'Addario Half Wounds - any users?
Bass Culture replied to Bass Culture's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thanks for the replies so far folks. I think some of the alternatives mentioned aren't available in medium scale (quelle surprise!) so not too sure if I can cut them down without compromising the winding... -
Ladies and Gents, I've got a medium scale Zoot Custom fretless arriving in a few weeks time and thought about speccing these as they do a medium scale set in my preferred gauge (45-100) but have no personal experience of them. Any users out there who can offer any insight as to what I can expect? On my fretted I've been using the D'Addario Pro Steels and have been really impressed. Thanks, BC

Looks like Trace Elliot may be back? NAMM 2017?
Bass Culture replied to 40hz's topic in Amps and Cabs
I contacted Customer Services a few days ago to suggest that, whilst many of us were ecstatic to see the Trace name on new amps again, there were a fairly sizeable number who were disappointed to see the new product bear no resemblance to the kit that name was made on. I asked if it was worth some of us holding our breath for a new, lightweight version of the SMX or something similar. No reply, no acknowledgement so far... -
In fact the ones that Ghost Bass has just posted, except without the B.
