1. In fact the ones that Ghost Bass has just posted, except without the B.
2. Recently changed to 45-100 D'Addario steelies on my Zoot 32", after using 40-95 nickels previously. Much more balanced output and response across the fingerboard to my ear and nice and flexible too.
3.
Can you illuminate how the tweetertone only works with TC cabs ? :-)
I was going to ask the same thing. I have a TC RH750 which I use with a Barefaced BB2 and it certainly 'does something' to my ears...And the something is good too!
4. If you're only in Manchester you're welcome to pop over to Chester and try my Zoot medium scale custom if you like too. If you've not tried a shorter scale bass I'd recommend it. And even if you ultimately find it's not your thing you can at least dismiss it on the basis of experience rather than preconception.
5. You'd think they'd actually do some market research (e.g read Basschat!) before putting their time and trouble into designing a product they feel is worthy enough to relaunch the brand on the back of. In all the 'I wish Trace would...'-type threads the majority have wished for a lightweight SMX. Not necessarily microscopic footprint, simply a lighter weight version of one of the best heads many of us have played through and which was - again, for many of us - the finest iteration of the Trace concept. There's plenty of frigging match boxes with 5 or 6 knobs on out there already FFS. My money will be staying in my wallet and my TC RH750 will remain my go-to for the future by the look of things. Grrr!
6. They'd surely be made by one of the bigger players and badged up as Ashdown, wouldn't they?
7. I do hope it doesn't all add up to a big portion of So What? pie. Maybe they're re-launching the tee-shirts.
8. 'Into the Fire' from In Rock. Always loved 'When A Blind Man Cries' too.
9. Lexicon of Love by ABC. I was precisely the right age (19) to be taken in by the hype on its original release but now find that Trevor Horn's production and Martin Fry's slightly strained delivery create a real barrier to me connecting with it. All style and no substance. I like music that makes me FEEL something and it's too glossy to do that for me.
10. It's been said before but a lighter weight version of the SMX would have the potential to put a smile on a lot of us older players faces...
11.
Anyone bringing anything to sell? Should I bring pocket money?
As my Zoot fretless doesn't look as though it will be ready by the Bash I'll bring my Les Evans fretless (with spare, fretted neck) which I'll be selling to make way for it. This is keeping with the local theme as Les was (maybe still is) based in Aintree.
12.
Some of us live REALLY far away from any decent set up bods. Would anyone know of a good local set up bod who would come in and charge individuals by the hour to do setups? We could book basses in beforehand.
To take Owen's query one step further - even someone who could run a shortish workshop to cover the basics of set up to enable us to do our own perhaps? I always think having the ability to set up your own instrument as you'd want enhances your playing ability nearly as much as musical knowledge.
13.
No still on headstock.i'll put better pics on
My bad. I'd presumed it would be contrasting print but now you say that I can just make out the signature in much lighter lettering. Nice basses I understand, and a very good price. GLWTS.
14. Is it me or has the headstock ID been removed? May be a trick of the light.
15. After seeing a couple of mentions of the Jam Hub in previous posts I googled the product as it sounded and interesting and practical band rehearsal tool, only to find a message on their website front page announcing the closure of the company! So a good, well regarded and innovative product bites the dust. Not for the first or last time, I suppose. Sorry for the slight detour from the OP.
16.
I'll send you my easy to remember pneumonic, however can you clarify first, how easily offended you are, my pneumonic is definitely an adult one.
I'm guessing you probably mean 'mnemonic'?...
17.
I'm sorry, did you say tasteful?
Cheeky!
18. I don't think I'll ever stop buying vinyl and it's been nice to pick the occasional new band whilst they're inclined to release on that format - doesn't stop me buying CD's for bands I'm more tentative about though. Mind you, it's grinding my gears that the new (!) Ultrasound album in vinyl is still in the process of being pressed up and won't be sent out until two weeks after the download's available. What's that about?!
19.
looks the part...just need to get some sound out of the sucker...
Oh my. That brings the whole 'Why did I sell my SB900 fretless?' thing back again! Lord, we do some dumb stuff in the name of GAS, don't we?
20. This has just been delivered to Mike Walsh, a new custom order from Hipshot for my forthcoming Zoot fretless: I'm going for a 'tasteful bling' vibe.
21. This thread has inspired me to dig out my old cassette deck from the loft and give my tape bootleg of that Hammersmith Odeon gig from '87 a spin this weekend. If I lost 3 stone it'd be just like I was 24 all over again!
22. What a start to a Friday - XTC's 'Mayor of Simpleton' blasting out from the radio at 08:00 this morning. Just reminded me of what pure pop geniuses they were and what a fabulous bass player Colin Moulding was/is. That bass line especially - sublime. That consistency and precision reminds me of a Pop Pastorius.
23. My bad, it looks like it was the original promo I had in mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msWi0c4tHV8 I'll stop my REM nostalgia trip now!
24. Stinson, Rushbo - we should have a reunion!
25.
I was at that Hammersmith gig, too. Life changing. "Radio Free Europe" played at Ramones speed with all the house lights on...Robyn Hitchcock on 12String for "Fall On Me". What a night. And 10 000 Maniacs were the support. Oh yeah. I don't remember a BBC version of "S Central Rain", but there was a killer version of it on The Tube...
Possibly still my favourite gig ever. Completely overwhelming for the younger me. I seem to recall on the version of So. Central Rain I'm thinking of that they were standing behind some sort screens for part of the video at least. Of course I could just be completely misremembering too!
