1.
I've got tired of chasing amps and cabs and realised I have great gear already.
What, no GAS?! Maybe you can you tell us what you've got so we can all buy the same thing?
2.
No credit to TC. They only added this information when they were forced to come clean after getting a lot of seriously bad press on Talkbass after Tom Bowlus discovered various interesting facts about the amps in a review and test his online bass magazine ran. And no credit to TC because while they hid the information away on the web site they left the documentation and labels on the amps as they were. They still state that the amps are 4 ohm minimum and you can only run 2 of any other manufacturers cabs to 4 ohms. That isn't what the clarification says so, sorry, no credit to TC for lying in their User Manuals so that they can sell more cabs to unsuspecting customers. That's selling under false pretenses, So sorry, NO CREDIT to TC.
This would be called 'Marketing' by anyone else and generally speaking anyone who's got anything to sell does it - to a greater or lesser extent. Probably all manufacturers of bass gear are in the habit of emphasising the most attractive, saleable, differentiating or - rarely - unique characteristics of their product(s). At the end of the day it's either loud (or loud enough) or its not. Given the reams of threads and comments on this subject I still can't remember reading anyone who's said their particular RH series amp wasn't loud enough for them or that they somehow perceived it to be quieter when they caught up with the 'science' that informs the claims for the higher wattage output. It's been said before that watts and decibels/volume are not the same thing. Compare 150w of any Trace head made to Ashdown's 500w Superfly, for example. One is most certainly louder than the other and it isn't the one with the higher claimed output. Does that mean the Superfly wasn't genuinely putting out 500w in the first place or that there was something about the management of that 500w that meant it didn't play as loud as 150 watts of Trace? Personally, no idea. Don't know, don't really care, but I cant remember quite the same level of hoo-ha accompanying that apparent anomaly. Now, full disclosure: I own an RH750 myself. It sounds great, has some really useful features and plays considerably louder than I'll ever need for my purposes. That's good enough for me.
3.
10lbs & a bit. Far to heavy for me. GLWTS.
Hmm, I'd really be surprised if it did turn out to be quite that heavy, it doesn't feel like it to me. All the same it's now currently ON HOLD. Thanks, BC
4. Flippyflop, our bathroom scales don't show ounces, I'm afraid, so due to the +/- factor they're next to useless with regard to producing an accurate weight. I'll have a think about trying to get a more accurate measurement.
5. Oooh, er, no. Lightweight poplar body apparently and it never struck me as heavy when I was wearing it. It's heavier than my ACG Finn but that's very small bodied so no great surprise there. I'll try and find time to give it the bathroom scale weighing method.
6. Overwater by Tanglewood, Classic J in candy apple red, upgraded with Kiogon wiring loom Very good condition. NOW SOLD Supplied with original controls and additional white pearl pickguard. I have my upgraded Tanglewater Classic J in candy apple red for sale. I bought it the beginning of the year, to tide me over whilst my ACG custom was away having its new neck fitted by Alan. These were terrific stock basses anyway, as a lot of you will already know, but mine has been improved dramatically by swapping out the original tone controls with one of our very own Kiogon's bell plate-mounted wiring looms. Again, many will already know this but these use only top quality components and are significant upgrades. The controls now consist of a stacked volume/tone for each pickup rather than the master volume/master tone and (not very good) blend as supplied (and which will be included on their bell plate with the sale) which offer a much more fundamentally musical tone. I was honestly very surprised by the difference. Whilst the original tone was a little on the bland and thin side for my tastes it seems that the tone is now somehow fatter and fuller with plenty of punch, offering everything from a tight, punchy Jazz sound to that signature P bass sound too by virtue of the P/J pickup combination. Having used only active basses for a good few years I was surprised by how full sounding the upgraded bass was - terrific, in fact! I'll post some photos of the actual bass in due course but it looks like this (aside from the controls, there being only two stacks now): This bass is in spotless condition aside from a slight chip in the lacquer on the bottom front edge (n.b location edited). Never noticed this before and it might even have arrived like this from the supplier. Otherwise in as new condition. It will be supplied with the original controls, still on their bell plate, and a spare, white pearl, pick guard. It's presently strung with newish Rotosound RS66 strings, 40 - 95 gauge, though I can chuck in the original strings too (can't remember what they are but wouldn't be surprised if they were D'Adarrio's of some description). NOW SOLD No trades please. And if there's no interest at this price I'll withdraw it in a while. Please note though, if cash flow is a problem, I'm happy to consider payment in a couple of instalments. 5/8 - Edit for photos requested of bass and upgraded tone controls/circuit. Thanks all. P.S. please check my feedback here: http://basschat.co.u...r-bass-culture/
7. Oh for God's sake! For many, the best preamp Trace made. I've bought, used and then sold two of these in recent years, as I've re-convinced myself lighter weight is best. Regretted it both times. Great price for a great amp. Must stop looking, must stop looking....
8. Jonny's just bought my Staccato '51 off me and has been a real pleasure to deal with. Regular, clear messages, which inspire confidence in the transaction. I'd be very happy to deal with him again. I might add that I feel quite jealous that this particular deal didn't involve a rendezvous in a service station...I feel left out.
9. I should say that I've been offered a couple of trades for this but I'm looking for a sale only as I need to recoup some of the cash I splashed out on the RH750. I can consider taking payment in a couple of instalments if cashflow's an issue for a potential buyer. Thanks.
10. Back up for an 'available again'-type bump. It's been mentioned before but, as well as all the awesome tone shaping-ness available it's also what can only be described as...red. As you'll see from the lovely Bassida's Youtube review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPer4MQEUo0
11. SALE AGREED, pending payment.
12.
I have the same amp and this problem should be a no brainer to a potential buyer : it is covered by TC warranty, just email them and they will send you a new set of buttons to replace to original ones. I've done that on my staccato and it's easy to do GLWTS as can't hardly justify buying a second amp now even if it is a bargain
Thanks for pointing that out. I'd understood that to be the case and - indeed - should have done it myself but I kind of got overtaken by events and have found myself selling quite quickly after, er, 'spontaneously' purchasing a new amp.
13. I bought this from one of our brethren on Basschat quite recently and was so taken with it I have decided to sell only 4 months later! In truth it reignited my love of the TC RH (type) amps and I've pulled the trigger and 'upgraded' to a RH 750 as a result of using the Staccato '51 for a while. I'd genuinely forgotten how versatile these amps are, with a whole range of features very usable in the 'real world' and none that aren't for most of us. The three on-board memories (for storing favoured settings and enabling easy swapping between - for example - different output basses) and the hugely flexible - and simple to use - tone shaping available make for an incredibly versatile and user friendly amp. I actually used to own a RH450 and sold it when I became band-less a while back. Picking up the Staccato was like being reunited with an old friend. The only real difference between this and it's almost identical brother, the RH450, is the voicing of the amp, which has been tweaked in line with Mr Prestia's personal preferences, offering more weight in the bass combined with a smooth and emphatic treble that really cuts through. Of course, with the amount of flexibility these amps offer, it's but the twiddle of a knob to get pretty much any tone you care for anyway. Some blurb and deets from the TC website (and used with the kind permission of Scooby, from his own advert a while back): In response to Rocco Prestia's (Tower of Power's bassist) stringent needs, TC Electronic present the Stacatto '51. Based upon TC's best-selling RH450 head, the Staccato 51, and as such has all the unique features of the 450 such as Tubetone Technology, Spectra Comp per-string compression and integrated fast-tracking chromatic tuner. Everything works perfectly and it is otherwise blemish-free and spotless. I am pricing for a quick sale at a figure I think represents something of a bargain: £400, to include delivery to mainland UK (happy to courier elsewhere for additional cost). The amp will be securely packaged and includes the dedicated TC gig bag, as well as a manual I down-loaded from the net and some info specific to the model. You'll see from the TC website that these now appear to be discontinued, though where you can find them listed they'll be not far shy of a £1k. Thanks for looking one and all.
14. Looks far more of a blood red in these ones - absolutely superb!.
15. The sound of the 80's!
16. As Eude says. I had a new (radius-ed) neck made for my 4 string fretted Finn recently as I began to feel one or two of the parameters I'd spec-ed for the neck originally weren't working for me. The new neck suits me better and Alan was supernaturally helpful in taking on what must have been a relatively time consuming and not particularly cost effective job. He really looks after his customers.
17. Roscoe's are fabulous but, seriously, White Cloud's suggestion - contact Alan at ACG and give him your requirements. He will be able to build you something that is everything you are looking for and probably more.
18.
I've been feeling all nostalgic over my old SB900 lately, so I followed your link to Chuya-online thinking i'd be safe' cos the SB1000s are all single pickup.......WRONG.... http://global.rakute...ine/item/96777/ She Who Must Be Obeyed is filling out the divorce papers as we speak....anyone want to buy a kidney?
Ha ha - I did the same thing! I found myself idly doing 'sums' on scrap paper at work to try and calculate when I might be able to pull the trigger....
19. I have one of these. Terrific, highly playable basses. GLWTS
20. Maybe you could prep the body yourself and send it stripped for the respray. That should save a few £s. Never done it myself but I'm guessing that stripping it is less balls-up-able than spraying it?
21. What generation is it please? Thanks, BC
22. Clarky, how did it work with you being able to choose your specific bass? Was this an option you were offered after you added one to your basket or did you have some contact with the seller outside of the website/sales portal? (You'll appreciate you can see I'm now giving this some serious thought!....)
23.
I believe its 18/19mm spacing (can't remember exactly) and 38mm Jazz width at the nut... sorry!!
Oh sh*t - I'm in trouble now!
24. Forgive the inquisitiveness but what's the string spacing at the bridge and nut width - if it's not too much trouble? I'm hoping in a perverse way that the nut's going to be wider than about 42mm so I can dismiss it as too wide for my teeny weeny, middle aged hands...
