FS: Trace Elliot AH300 GP12 SMX - SALE AGREED
Bass Culture replied to Bass Culture's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale

I bought this only recently with the idea that it would tide me over for a few weeks when I sent my ACG back to Alan to have some work done on it. However, I've decided to take the opportunity to get to know my fretless again instead. These Squiers have had a lot of love on BC, which was really why I looked at one in the first place. Now I've been playing this for a few weeks I can understand why. They are ridiculous value for money - simply a hell of a lot of bass for not very much money, very well made and beautiful sounding. The Deluxe has the ebanol fingerboard and active preamp with Volume; Pickup Blend and Bass, Middle and Treble cut/boost controls. There's also a little preshape/slap switch which offers the traditional middle cut/ treble and bass boost setting for slap players. The active circuit is very musical and offers a terrific palette of sounds. I'd think you could quite happily gig with this for years without ever feeling the need to 'upgrade' to something Fender. I'm no expert on Fender or Jazz type basses specifically but I've seen many compare these Squiers very favourably to MIM and even MIA Fender basses. The bass is presently strung with Dunlop Super Bright Steel strings, 40-100 gauge, and sounds killer. I've still got the strings I took off though so will include those. Nut width is 1.5"; fingerboard radius 12" and 20mm string spacing at the bridge. Some snaps: attachment=181918:P1240017.JPG] The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that the shaft of the treble knob on the stacked pot is slightly bent. This was how it arrived and I'm guessing it got a slight knock in the shop when it was on display. No crackles from the pot when turned and it rotates freely so there's no issues in use. Wasn't serious enough to send it back, just slightly annoying for those of us with a slight OCD bent - I include myself. NOW SOLD. No trades please. Please check my feedback thread. Thanks for looking.

It's bite the bullet time and I've decided to let my Trace AH300 SMX go as I'm doing so little gigging at present. There's little that hasn't been said about the SMX range of Trace amps, and for many they're about the best head Trace produced. A quick list of features:

280 (trace!) watts RMS
580 watts peak...It's VERY loud!
12 band switchable graphic EQ
Switchable Passive/Active input
Input Blend for Solid state / Valve preamp
Switchable Pre Shape with two selectable pre shapes to choose from
12 Band Graphic EQ - with In/Out Select button and adjustable Mix level with 'dry' output signal
Trace's famous Two Band Compression Circuit
EQ Balance Control
Variable Effects Level Control
Effects Loop with Variable Send Level
DI Out
Tuner Output
Footswitch Output (Footswitch not included)
2 x Jack Speaker Outputs
Condition of the amp is pretty good - used but not abused. It has some minor markings on the top of the case consistent with an amp of this age. Update: in reviewing the photos I've also noticed that the white switch cover for the effects loop high pass filter on the rear is missing. It was delivered to me like that but as I never used the effects loop I completely forgot about that - sorry. I'm looking for £210 - no trades please. Price includes a Thomann pedal board gig bag; bound manual downloaded from t'internet AND UK mainland shipping. I think I've still got a feedback thread so please check away. Thanks for looking.
Just curious: what do you like about it?
Ha ha! As a 50-something bass player now I feel like Rush are one of those 'rites of passage' bands that you kind of feel obliged to dip into (maybe when you're younger) before you grow out of when you perhaps develop a taste for...er...tunes. (Puts on hard hat and ducks backs behind nearest parapet.)

I bought one of these recently to cover the absence of my ACG when it goes back to Alan for a few weeks for some service work, and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality v price ratio. These are excellent basses - very playable and tonally flexible - and this is something of a steal at this price. I can't believe it will hang around too long. GLWTS.

Reidmar owners - anyone found a gig bag?
Bass Culture replied to Bass Culture's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for the replies. I shall investigate forthwith... -
Question for fellow Reidmar owners out there - have any of you found a gig bag that's a decent fit for it? I don't think EBS make a dedicated one for it and I understood that those who have looked before found it didn't properly fit a number of after market bags available. Anyone had any luck? Cheers, BC

RIP Jack. If it wasn't for 'Badge' I don't think I'd ever have wanted to play bass. A great loss.

Morning all, I bought this in a flurry of 'it'd be a crime not to' when GAK were offloading the last batch before they were withdrawn. I spent quite a happy two hours fiddling with it, then put it back in its box where its remained ever since. It's literally not been out of the box for over 12 months. You'd think after playing for over 30 years and having never used more than a chorus pedal in that time I'd have realised that multi effects, however good value they are, simply aren't going to feature in my playing any time soon! But no, apparently not. I'm sure if you've got this far you already know that this is very much the Starship Enterprise command deck of multi effects units, but for those less familiar with its capabilities I hope you'll forgive me linking to the Zoom site rather than trust myself to give what would inevitably be a somewhat inept and partial description: http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/b91ut I'll try and post pictures for those who need them of the sale item but basically it looks precisely the same as the one the Zoom website. Absolutely as new - boxed and the Cubase SE disc is still sealed. Includes all packaged documentation etc. Looking for £90 posted to the UK. Thanks all, Mark

Just sold my Barefaced S12T to Matt, who was a pleasure to deal with throughout. Just what I've come to expect from a Basschat transaction - quick, simple and entirely amicable and painless. I'd wouldn't hesitate to deal with Matt again.

SOLD I am reluctantly selling my BF S12T cab as I've been band-less for a year and having a stadium-filling cab sitting there and being used for little more than bedroom practice is a waste. So I'm down sizing to one of Alex' smaller cabs, in the expectation that band-playing will not be so frequent in future. If you're looking you'll likely already know what the S12T looks like and is capable of - it looks and is spec'ed like this: http://barefacedbass...ge=super-twelve Quite the best cab I've owned, with gloriously defined and articulate mids, smooth highs and strong bass. I've owned mine from new for about three years and it's been gigged perhaps half a dozen times in that period (hence the sale). I used to raise it off stage with an amp stand, and play smaller pubs, and it was terrific - really full and punchy with great sound dispersal. I've used it live with a TC RH450 and, more recently, with a Trace AH300SMX, and I've never been happier with my sound. Really responsive with finger playing and the tweeter really adds definition. Hell, you all know what these are about - for some ( I say some, all you Berg etc, owners out there!) probably the best single cab option available. Mine is the silver cloth version (mmm, retro-tastic...), no piping. Excellent all round condition, the only issue is a small flake of cabinet 'paint' missing from an underside edge which can't be seen in normal use. I only noticed this the other day, when I was giving the cab a once-over ahead of putting it up. There's absolutely no damage to the cab material underneath so I'm not too sure how this came off. I've contacted Alex for some paint but he's not sent any out yet. There's some wear on the castors but they're still perfectly serviceable and there's good few more miles in them yet. I 'd prefer not to 'horse trade' so I think £600 is a fair price for a straight sale. No trades please as the S12T's replacement is already lined up. Sadly I can't send it as I've no packaging but I'm happy to deliver up to a reasonable distance from Chester at a rate of about £20 per 100 miles for diesel. Goes without saying, I hope, that you'd be welcome to pop over to Chester to try the cab in person. Thanks all. Mark

Whilst I think I may be veering slightly off topic here, I'm tempted to observe that there's many a company who have been dashed on the rocks of their own success, and many a product/manufacturer that has been quietly bought up and buried by conglomerates more interested in safe guarding their own interests and own product than offering the marketplace (whatever marketplace) new, innovative and 'better' goodies. Personally I love Alex's 'not very slick, all the information you could want and then-some'-approach. A triumph of substance over a style, as far as I'm concerned, and something of a novelty to offer a product designed to appeal to customers on the basis of performance rather than aesthetic considerations.

I own a BF cab and an ACG custom bass (get me and my sophisticated tastes!). I'm genuinely bemused - when you could say they were similar types of companies in terms of their approach to their (obviously completely different) products - why the former attracts such rabidly, schizophrenically differing opinions and the latter much less so. They are both small, passionate producers of their esoteric product, who invest a huge amount of time in continually identifying and developing incremental improvements and, as such, I applaud them both. Both could say their product is the best it possibly can be right now, and it is produced with little concession or deference to their buyers' budgets - within reason. If someone else doesn't 'like' my BF cab or my ACG bass that's up to you, but, you know what, I don't like your hair or your tee shirt, because my hair and my tee shirt are better. How do you like them apples? Couldn't give sh*t? Good for you because you know what, I really don't give much of a toss that you don't care for my cab or bass either. Can we all go to sleep now?

Kate Bush Tribute need bassist Devon / Cornwall / SW

Agree with the others - my dream gig. Sadly geography excludes me. Someone's going to love this. -
I don't know you..but a big thank you! Glad someone knows for sure that I'm not exaggerating...thanks again Mr Bass Culture.
You're welcome. Seriously, if I could get my fingers round any more than 4 strings you'd already have the money and we'd be discussing delivery details! I absolutely loved this bass. I've often thought about commissioning another LE bass but I've lost contact with Les in recent years and have not been able to get an answer on the old land line number I have for him. He's s top guy, though not the most business-minded, which ultimately probably did for him in terms of being able to make a go of it. I'd dearly love to contact him again, if you or anyone else had his details. Best of luck with your sale.

I have no affiliation with the seller but having played this when Les had it in for service a few years back I can say with confidence that this bass is simply stunning. I don't think Les is building anymore but, having owned three Les Evans basses I'd have to say that they are on a par with anything I've ever played. The build quality is superb and his eye for detail (look at the fingerboard, the partial recessing of the control knobs etc.) elevated some of his builds to works of art. I also had the same combination of EMGs and East preamp (looks like a u-retro?) on a couple of the basses Les made for me and they sounded lovely. On this occasion the claim of Fodera league build quality is not seller's hyperbole - this bass is worth every penny of the seller's asking price and I would humbly suggest it might actually represent something of a bargain. I know I sound like I'm going over the top but when I saw this is Les's workshop I must have spent about ten minutes just looking at it before it even occurred to me to play it! This will make someone a very, very happy bunny.
