1. The more time I've been spending with my recently acquired Fender Jazz the more I'm realising that simplicity is king for me. This is an absolutely fantastic bass, but my 'tone' has pretty much come full circle and I'm just looking to get back to basics again. So up for offer is the beautiful Overwater Perception Standard Deluxe Plus. The spec is: Body: Walnut Top: Indian Rosewood Neck: 3 piece Maple Fretboard: Indian Rosewood Bridge: Hipshot Style A Pickups: OW 5 Soapbars Preamp: OW 3 Band EQ Condition: I can't find any blemishes Comes with gig bag Ideally I'm looking to trade for one of the following: 1) jazz style fretless - 4 or 5 string - ideally lined given that this will be my first go at fretless! 2) P bass (not fretless) 3) passive 5 string jazz (would love to try a Lakland DJ or JO) All of the above would most likely require some additional cash as well I'm afraid. For a cash sale I'd be looking at [s]£1000[/s] [s]£950[/s] now £[s]920[/s] £900. P&P likely to be in the region of £20-30 Thanks for looking and feel free to get in touch with offers or questions. 2. I used to own one of the earlier rear ported MB 4x10's and I found it so flabby and muffled that when I changed it for an Agi GS112 why drummer regained his ability to smile. Awful cab; can't pass any comment on the newer ones though. I'm also a LMII user now and I've probably had this head as long as I've ever had any - 'nuf said!
3. Would a standard Fender (5 string) scratchplate fit on this?
4. TBH having just restrung it today with some fresh EB's I'm starting to wonder whether this won't be withdrawn very soon. Infact....... Hmmm!
5. Happy to send it somewhere else in the UK. You watch, I'll post it off to a UK address and it'll get lost or arrive in 23 separate pieces!!
6. I had a play around with the VLE last night which did seem to help matters. Maybe it's just that the OW is a bit too in-ya-face?? It says something that I put a new set of DR Hi-Beams on, which are my all-time favourite strings, but took them off again a week later, because it was all just a bit too bright and zingy Why is nothing ever simple?!
7. Thanks for the comments so far. I've had a pair of Agi 112's in the past and loved them (can't remember why I got rid of them really), so I'd wondered about going back down that track, but then I do like the Epi so I'm wondering if actually the LMII is just a bit too clean and whether I'm really after something a bit more 'coloured'; dare I say it, but maybe even Ashdown, Ampeg type?? As for the band set up, it's in a church so is pretty small and we're not playing at any great volume either.
8. A few years ago I tried an Ashdown Evo head through an Ashdown 2x12 cab which was so amazingly smooth in the low end, unfortunately when I'd made up my mind to buy it someone had beaten me to it. Ever since this I've longed to try and find that buttery smooth low end without necessarily relinquishing the ability to cut through and get a bit aggressive when required. I'm currently using an Overwater Perception 5 or Fender jazz into a LMII and Epi 410. Is the key to smooth buttery low end about having the right bass or the right amp/cab? What are your recommendations???
9.
He plays drums too...in a cool Hip Hop stylee
Absolutely priceless!! I have two young boys trying to get to sleep, but they can't because I'm in the room next door trying desparately to stiffle my giggling from developing into full blown belly-laughter. I swear a little bit of pee came out!
Special
So this is where I've been going wrong, to play 5/4 correctly you have to play a few bars of 4/4, each time counting a random selection of numbers between 1 and 5, realise that's what you've done, stop playing for a bit, then start again on the count of a randomly placed number 1....! Simple really It's actually a little bit sad that either someone's put them upto this all the while knowing they're going to be laughed at, or hasn't spoken to them and advised them against it.
10. What is it folks say about tone being in the fingers?! I'm pretty sure there's no way I could make a cheap chinese copy sound that good, but it won my vote for fingerstyle and bridge PUP. Warwick nailed the slap though. Excellent blind test!
11. Of course you may, thanks!! How're you getting on with the Status, Marc?
12. It is especially gorgeous in the 'flesh'. Might consider trade for a nice 212 cab or amp
13. Would I be better off removing the mods, selling those bits separately and relisted the bass in it's original guise for £295?
14. Things seem to have gone a bit quiet from someone who appeared willing to buy, so back to the top, just in case.
15. Having sold my Status a few weeks ago I bought this as a 'stop gap' given that I didn't have a second bass to fall back on whilst I searched for 'the right' 5 string. Well, wouldn't you know it, the right 5'er did come up just as I was waiting for this to be delivered (BassBlueStews Overwater Perception). Having tried the Overwater a few times now I'm happy to give it a good go so this Fender is surplus to requirement. Spec: Fender Mexico, Classic 60's Reissue, Limited Edition Burgundy Mist (colour matched headstock). Standard pickups replaced with Nordstrand NJ4SE's Pickup covers and thumbrest added by last owner Fender Japan bridge (replaced the original Badass) 2 x 500k CTS pots Also included with the bass is: White pickguard Original Fender pickups Hipshot D-Tuner Brand new set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys Fender gigbag Condition: There are a couple of small indents on the back of the bass (see picture), and an under the laquer stain near the 'G' tuner (couldn't really photograph, it's that faint), this is probably buffing compound. Please note that the bridge volume knob is smaller than it should be - I'll include a set of push on alternative control knobs. One of the most fantastic aspects of this bass is the colour which almost has a subtle pearlescent type quality to it changing from a sort of champagne through to a really nice dark burgundy. Sound: It's a jazz, and a very good one at that. Lovely bark and bite when required. Sits in the mix very nicely as well. Price: [s]£500 + P&P[/s] NOW £475 inc P&P (pickup is also absolutely fine if you're close enough or happy to meet up within reason) No trades please Thanks for looking, please get in touch if you have any questions.
