1. I have to admit that this first 5 seconds made me think 'oh, here comes another amateur production', but I was so wrong! Great song and very cool video. Really loving the bass tone as well. Good job all round, sir!
2. Please excuse my ignorance, but what's the main difference between this and the pod xt live?
3. +1 for the Epi 410UL - ridiculously light for it's size and sounds fantastic to boot. Certainly worth a look.
4. That Mr Reed ain't 'arf bad. Another one worth a look is Maurice Fitzgerald who's played with Fred Hammond in the past and also had a couple of clips of him at the Chicago concert with Mr Reed on YT until a few months ago. Given that they aren't available he can be seen doing his thang here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVjltuGGH9s...feature=related Enjoy!
5. Don't suppose you'd be able to quantify 'pretty heavy' would you? Thanks
6. Blimey, that's almost enough to make me try a 4 string again. Stunning!
7. It turns out the bass player is a chap called Lamar Jones, not Maurice Fitzgerald as originally thought. Still a pretty decent player though.
8. Maurice Fitzgerald is such a fantastic player, more chops than a very large butchers shop, but uses them very tastefully. As for this Brian bloke with the hair, sure he's incredibly talent, but he certainly appears to give the impression that the level of his talent hasn't escaped his notice. If someone started gesticulating like that in front of me when I was playing he might just find himself having an unfortunate encounter with some tuning pegs
9. Ah, that makes perfect sense and kinda fits with what I had assumed from looking at a couple of the pedal layouts. To the OP - I'm also looking for a ME pedal and given that I'm too tight to pay for a new one, have narrowed my options down to a 2nd hand GT6-B (good sounds, but seems a bit complex by all accounts), GT10-B (just as good, if not better sounds, but less complex), Line 6 XT Live (simpler to use that the Boss ones, but not sure about the modelling) or the Zoom 9.1u (probably going to be a bit pricey, even SH). I'd be interested to know which pedal you opt for in the end.
10. You have me there! What's the difference between serial layering and parallel layering? I'm just wondering whether with the units mentioned it's possible to have one effect made up of a bit of chorus with some Octaver and OD thrown in?
11. Are you able to layer effects with the Zoom B2 and the Boss ME50-B?
12. This is a little concerning to hear especially given that I'd had correspondence with Soliloquy about meeting up at the end of last week, but hadn't heard back from him. Like you say, I hope he's OK.
13. That's priceless - it has me smiling broadly and stifling a giggle
14. I have an S2 6 string if that's any help and I'm probably not far from you, in Coventry. You're welcome to come and have a go as long as you bring your Marleaux and a cab with you!!
15. Would the latency be noticable if sat just t'other side of the bridge PUP?
16. I had thought of putting the midi pickup between the two bass pickups, but assumed there was some reason why it had to go between the bridge pickup and the bridge; is this not the case?
17. Well it actually looks like I won't be getting the V-bass afterall given that the seller has seen this thread and kindly offered me a refund. Unfortunately, it leaves me with another quandry; which other multi-effects will give me a decent defret effect? I'm not overly keen on the Boss pedals because the ME10B I tried seemed to offer 101 distortion effects and about 4 delay / chorus / octaver effects and I'm just not into distortion.
18. Thanks for the advice. The guy from who I'm buying the V-bass has seen this thread and offered me a refund given that he hadn't yet posted it. To be honest the main reason I was getting the V-bass was because I was lead to believe that it gave the best fretless / upright bass effect without having to spend at least triple the money on a fretless bass. Not sure what other options I have really. I'm growing to love the Status graphite neck, so it might be that I just need to hold out for a Status fretless??
19. Having read loads of great reviews about the Roland V bass system, I went ahead and purchased a used one off this forum. However, I was sat playing by Status S2 headless last night (I'm a bass monogamist BTW) and it suddenly dawned on me that there is pretty much zero space between the bridge (individual monorail jobbies) and the bridge pickup, so there's absolutely no space for the Midi pickup to be mounted!! Now, I realise and accept that I've been a slow minded egit, but will I still be able to use the V-bass for modelling and effects without the Midi pickup? Please say yes!
20. I have to say that the Lakland JO5 is one of the basses I would really love to own again in the future. Absolutely fantastic. Have a free bump, sir!
21. I actually sold by Berg HS210 in favour of the Epi 410UL. I had the opportunity to directly compare the two in a gigging situation and found that whilst the Berg had what can only be considered as an absolutely amazing low end for a 210 cab, it's mids were discernably more nasal. I just find the Epi a warmer cab.
22. I always find these discussions interesting, but without some folks trying to describe and qualify 'tone' it just becomes a bit of a personal taste recommendations thread, which doesn't really tell anyone what the key differences are between the cabs. Does anyone wish to step out and explain how TC is different to MB rather than just saying it's better or worse - more mids, less low end, 'boxy' or open ......??? Anyone?
23. This Sadowsky outboard Pre is probably one of the, if not the, best in the business. This one has seen very little use in the time I've had due to getting rid of my passive bass and being generally lazy, such that I can't be bothered to plug it into my amp! In extremely good nick, as you can see from the photo. Comes boxed. £120 inc P&P.
