1. There's one of these on ebay for £750. Might not be as old, but still....
2. I haven't had this for very long and have put a fair amount of blood, sweat and elbow grease into getting it looking as it does. When I bought it, the original owner hadn't really waxed it and there was a mucky mark where he rested his right arm when playing. I've stripped it right down (neck off, pickups out, etc...) and sanded+++, wire-wooled, oiled and waxed. As a consequence it actually looks really rather good. The area that was mucky is eversoslightly lighter than the rest of the body, but you have to be looking for it to notice and I'm reliably informed that it will darken in time with regular waxing. Other than that there's some fading on the bridge and volume control. Other than that it's in pretty good nick. Swamp Ash body Flamed maple top Ovangol neck with 24 bell brass frets 3 way switch for the bridge MM style Humbucker 3 band MEC EQ In terms of trades, I'd be interested in 5 string Jazzes (would love another Lakland JO) or Stingray (as long as it doesn't have a duff G string - been there before!). I'd also be interested in more hifi type amps and high end 4x10 or 2x12. For a straight sale I'm thinking in the region of £575. Please feel free to PM me with any offers, questions etc...
3. They must be having a laugh......or am I grossly underestimating the value of this bass?! Grab a bargain while you can....
4. Is the asking price reasonable? I've only put this based on the last couple of BN5's that have graced these parts.
5. This could be for a very short time only so if you're interested jump to it..... I'm only offering this up for sale while there's a Roscoe LG 5 string available on the forum. I'm looking for a straight cash sale of £1400 including P&P in the UK. I might be open to some negotiation, but - and I don't mean any offence by this - please, no silly offers. It doesn't come with a hardcase so if you're wanting that extra protection you might be best to collect it in person. Alternatively if you're overseas, I am willing to ship it, but you might want to consider purchasing a hardcase for me to ship it in and check the P&P charges. Here are a few pics, and please feel free to PM me with any questions or queries. Thanks for looking... 6. I just bought a Warwick FNA jazzman 5 for £500 off ebay. There's a good chance I paid less than it's probably worth because the seller, whilst being a really nice chap, who ended up hand delivery the bass to me, didn't do a fantastic job with the advert and had a low ebay score. I've had to spend a few hours stripping it, sanding, oiling, waxing etc... but I actually enjoy that kinda thing and it's looks fantastic and plays wonderfully now. Like a couple of the others have said, keep your eyes open because bargains are there to be had.
7. An ardent DR user here! Love 'em and haven't found anything that comes anywhere close to them for tone and feel. The other amazing thing about them is the length of time they continue to deliver that lovely deep tone with zing; at least 2 or 3 times longer than anything else I've tried. Sure they retail for considerably more, but if you keep a look out, they can be found for a considerable reduction - I just got 2 sets of Lo-Riders ?40-125 for £20 each. Bargain!!
8. I'm using the 2x10 with a LMII. I think I'll try leaning the speaker up against a wall tilting it towards my ears and see what that does. Whilst not understanding the detail about the coupling, it does make some sense. Thanks for all the suggestions and comments so far.
9. Comb filtering; what's that? I don't go through the PA so really need to be able to hear what I'm playing as well as project outwards. I guess my only concern with putting the cab on the floor and tilting it back is that some of my projected sound might be lost.
10. Why? 'Volume' or frequencies? If it's the former, the Berg has plenty of 'volume'.
11. But trading my 2x10 for a 4x10 is a virtually no cost option. Buying a second 2x10 has a definte cost associated with it and if I want comparible quality, sensitivity to my Berg 2x10 then it's quite a considerable cost. Is there any great advantage to having it on a stand 2ft off the ground tilted towards my ears, over just tilting it back against a wall whilst sat on the floor pointing towards my ears?
12.
Beat me to it!! Get another Bergantino 2x10, it's the only sensible solution!
There's a little bit of me that might see this as overkill! Another Berg cab will cost me in the region of £500 and amp stand would be £25; Hmmmm!
13. Thanks for the ideas. LawrenceH, if you tilt it back how do you secure your amp onto the cab?
14. Yep, it's on end on a chair or a table.
15. Simple question - I currently have a Bergantino 2x10 which I need to stand on a table in order to hear myself. Should I stick with this (hoping each time that I can find a table to stand it on) or opt for a lightweight 4x10 that can just stand on the floor? In terms of 4x10 brands I'm thinking EBS, Epifani etc...
16. Is that finish something that's been put on 'at a later date'? It doesn't look as solid or as full as they usually do.
17. Definitely not my old one, which was an incredibly weight beast ~12Ibs!! I'm tempted!
18. This looks like the one I used to own. How much does it weigh? If it is the one, I can honestly say that this was without doubt the best sounding bass I had prior to getting my F bass.
19. I've tried a 6'er in the past and came to the conclusion that it wasn't really for me, but I can't begin to tell you how much this makes me want to try again!
