1. Could also be tempted by a Status, but there doesn't seem to be many of those around either!!
2. Quick bumpety. Is it just that there aren't many Roscoe, Smith or MTD basses around, or more the case that nobody wants to part with them?!
3. Hey, Allistair. It is lovely, that's true. How you getting on with the Eden? Hopefully as well as I am with the LM!
4. Thanks for the offer, but I can just about deal with 5! My ventures into 6 string territory have never proved that successful. I should also add, that I've had endless offers of a cash sale from overseas (probably due to the incredibly strong Euro / weak £), so if anyone has an MTD, Roscoe or Smith they want to sell rather than trade, please get in touch. I even had one guy, very kindly, provide me with 4 listings of basses for sale on Talkbass just so I could sell him my Fbass!
5. Had a few offers, but nothing concrete. On reflection I should point out that the only bass I wouldn't need to do some A/B'ing with would be a Smith, so if you've got any other offers you might want to bear in mind that I'm in the West Midlands; prepared to travel, but within reason (i.e. Aberdeen would be pushing it!)
6. They are both absolute stunners! Even as an F bass owner I have to say that the STR is drop dead gorgeous.
7. This is a 'for trade' feeler. If the right bass doesn't come along then this can't really go anywhere given that it's the only bass I own (I'm monogamistic in the bass sense!.........and the marriage sense, I should add ) I'm really looking for a Marleaux, Smith, MTD or Roscoe 5 (or maybe something comparible) to tempt the F bass away from me. Bass is in top notch condition with no marks on it that I can see. All in perfect working order. Strung with DR's at the moment. Pretty good chameleon in the tonal sense, providing beefy jazz or P tones from a very flexible preamp. Let me know if you have anything of potential interest. As I said, really not looking for cash sale unless there's a Smith MTD or Roscoe going elsewhere on the forum. If there is, then I'd probably say £1400ish. 10.
You must have been the guy in yesterday moprning. I went in lunch time-ish and Mark said he had had someone trying heads. Great shop / Guy / experience.
Yep, that was me! Small world, eh! Mark and his shop, put so many others to shame. I'd recommend him to anyone.
11. I can probably add something to this thread having been to BassDirect yesterday to play a few Micro heads. They were as follows: EA Micro head - 'Glassy' is the only word I can really use to describe this head. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the top end that sounded this way, it seemed to penetrate it's way through the whole frequency range. Not my favourite with the EQ set flat, but might be better with the treble turned down. Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 - this was a really nice head, being a bit brighter than either of the MB heads, but still having a really nice frequency range. Can imagine this being a really good head for someone who wants something a bit more cutting and aggressive. Markbass F1 - Like the Genz Benz in it's range of frequencies, but just a bit warmer and fuller in it's response without being boomy in any way. This was a really lovely head. Markbass LMIII - for the extra £30-£40 get the F1. Whilst being a decent head I could certainly see why some people find it lacking in the top end. This head just didn't seem to have any of the vibrancy and articulation that the other three had. In truth I'd probably even take the EA over this and just turn the treble down. No doubt, they're all quality heads, but for me, it was certainly a toss up between the F1 and the Genz Benz. I'd also recommend popping in to see ?Mark (or is it Steve??) at Bassdirect - a really nice guy and very helpful with it. Can't see myself ever going over to those egits over in B'ham anymore - they could no more set up a bass guitar than they could prepare a space shuttle for launch.
12. Please let me know if you think I'm being unrealistic with the price.
13. Eden WT-400 that started life as a WT-300, but had a factory upgrade to 400W poweramp earlier in it's life. Still a fantastic little amp with the most amazing array of tones. Never had any issues with it, whatsoever. Still performs absolutely brilliantly everytime I turn it on. Thinking about £400 for cash sale + P&P (Will include the metal carry case and rack ears in the sale for and extra £20) Trade wise would be interested in something with a pretty neutral and flat frequency response like a Markbass LMK / LMII or something Genz Benz?? Drop me a line if you're interested. 14. My Korg DT-10 is now surplus to require so it's your if you want it. It's in perfect working order. See picture for cosmetic detail. With regards to the price, all I know is that they retail in the £60-70 region, so I'm thinking of asking for £45 inc P&P. Does this sound reasonable? Drop me a line if you're interested. 15. For me, this is the sign of a truly great bass player; we all know he can do the fancy stuff, he knows he can do the fancy stuff, but despite this he just plays the basic line that the song requires. Fantastic. Like Ped, I rate Manu Katche as one of the best and most tasteful players I've ever heard. Comes across as being a really nice guy, too.
16. Don't suppose you have any soundclips of this work of art, do you?
17. Having a bit of a clear out, hence there are a couple of bits which I don't see myself using for some time or haven't been used for a while. Drum Machine is a Zoom RhythmTrak RT-123 - really easy to use. Loads of usable samples and capacity to enter your own. Comes with adapter and instructions. Not sure on the value of this, but let's say £40 (+ P&P) for a starter. Please let me know if you think I'm off the mark - you could well be right! **SOLD** Strings: Ernie Ball Reg Slinky 5 string set (45-130) - £20 + P&P DR Sunbeams 5 string set - 45-125 (box is a bit battered having been in my gear bag for a while, but strings are guaranteed unused) - £25 + P&P (SOLD) Drop me a mail if you're interested in any of the above.
18.
ever tried dropping the 'E' string to a 'D'?
Do you know what, I've actually been giving this some serious thought over recent weeks. Do you reckon your average 4 string jazz would cope OK dropping the tuning down one?
