  1. Fabulous basses, especially the earlier ones. Exceptional build quality and big, fat tones for days. Also, that's a very reasonable price - and with LEDs as well?? If I didn't already have one, I'd pull your arm off! GLWTS.
  2. "Boss, you know those bodies with the pickup routing in the wrong place, and the bits of purple wood we never used? I'm just going to throw them in the skip." "Hey, wait a minute...!" https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-Ashula-SRAS7-DEB-Electric-7-String-4-fretted-3-fretless-Bass-Hard-Case/294022605307
  3. Well that would explain it! Can we leave feedback too?!? 😄
  4. Multiple PMs sent, one with an offer. No response. I suppose this could be why the bass still unsold after nearly three years! 😉 It is still for sale, isn't it??
  5. Interesting Mk I with unsubstantiated provenance, no decal on the headstock, and what looks like a rather rippled re-spray... has it got something to hide? I also seem to remember another Wal for sale in Aberdeen not long ago, but attributed to disco band 'Liquid Gold' on that occasion. Even if it's all legit, £8K seems a bit over the top! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WAL-Mk1-Bass-1980s-Geddy-Lee-model-ex-Nena/264784897617 Edit: just found both basses on this website, so perhaps they're both in Aberdeen! https://elitevintageguitars.com/
  6. In 1980, having just discovered Brand X and Percy Jones and not being able to afford a Wal, I ordered a fretless Shergold exactly the same as the one in the ad above. It arrived a few days later, so I picked it up from the music shop and rather unwisely took it straight to a gig. I had a quick noodle in the dressing room and remember thinking "it's got dots on the edge of the fingerboard, how hard can it be??". Once the band launched into the first number, I realised the enormity of the task, and staggered off the stage at the end of the set drenched in the sweat of sheer terror. Great basses though! GLWTS.
  7. I had a few Status basses over the years, all but one with mahogany bodies, and one solid walnut. It always seemed heavier than the others...
  8. Not really. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wal-Type-Fretless-Bass/164510499267
  9. The best quote I could find for shipping to Greece was £35 for *each* speaker, uninsured. Shipping them as one package was over £200 because of the combined weight.
  10. No, sorry. It would be just too expensive I'm afraid.
  11. My old bass! An really excellent instrument - I only let it go because I got Stefan at Bogart to make me a 35" scale version. GLWTS.
  12. Hi Ziggy I've used both, and they are heavier, but the Prolines have noticeably more headroom and heft than the Neos. The high end on the Neos also sounded a lot more brittle to my ears. Definitely worth the extra weight, IMHO!
  13. Another reason why I love this site - you get replies like this! That's a great story about how Neil came into possession of the bass. He had only just got it when I met him, so it must have been the result of a liaison in the very same club, Tiffany's in Bridge Street in Newcastle, now long gone, sadly. It was an interesting gig, like Sodom and Gomorrah with red velour seats and plastic palm trees!
  14. This site has an amazing habit of bringing back old memories, often prompted by basses of yesteryear that come up for sale on here. I played a 1960 stack-knob jazz just like this one back in 1981. It was the property of prolific Edinburgh-based musician and actor Neil Hay, who I had the pleasure of meeting when I took over from him in a resident band in a Tiffany's club in Newcastle. He told me about its rarity even then and what a great bass it was, but I'm ashamed to say I was young and foolish and took very little notice, being obsessed with active Japanese basses and trying to sound like Mark King. Well, it was the 80's after all... Sadly, Neil passed away in 1994, and although this isn't his bass, I do wonder what happened to it. Did anyone on here know him?
  15. Great basses, and an amazing price, but I already have one! 🙂 GLWTS.
  16. I bought a GB Spitfire 5 string from Carl. Communication was prompt and very friendly, and he went the extra mile to send the bass to me packed securely enough to survive an earthquake! Buy/sell/trade with Carl with confidence.
  17. I sold Tony my Sei. A very smooth, painless transaction - buy/sell/trade with confidence. Thanks Tony, and enjoy the bass!
  18. No, sorry, sale only.
  19. No neck dive at all, it sits on a strap beautifully. The slim headstock probably helps...
  20. There was one for sale on here a couple of months ago, and last year - worth trying to track down the buyers via the sellers? You may have been down this road already, of course...
  21. Only you can decide that! 🙂
  22. NOW SOLD For sale is a beautiful example of Martin Petersen's work. It was made for Randy Hope-Taylor about 20 years ago, and the chap I bought it from recently had owned it for many years. It's certainly unusual, sporting a Tele headstock and stacked knobs, and as with all Martin's work, beautifully made. Having played extra long scale 5-string basses for many years, sadly it just doesn't work for me and my gorilla mitts! Specs: 34” scale Surf green body with matching tele shaped headstock Flamed maple neck / Rosewood fingerboard 38mm nut / 19mm string spacing Gotoh GBR640 tuners Alder body / parchment pickguard Passive / stack knob Mørch single coil jazz pickups ( 60s spacing ) Vintage spiral saddle bridge Weight 4.8kg It also comes with a chrome neck pickup cover and an additional tort scratchplate. The neck & fingerboard was originally painted white, but the previous owner had this stripped some years ago by Martin Sims, and he did a great job revealing the beauty of the flame maple. The only trade I would be interested in is for a 35" scale 5-string with 19mm spacing.
  23. Ben bought my Mesa head, and was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. Thanks, and enjoy the amp!
  24. Sorry Alberto, thanks for the offer, but a 6 isn't for me - I have enough trouble with 5 strings! 😁
  25. 11, 12, 18 and 20 - any offers??
