Steinberger L2 prototype? No, really...
lowregisterhead replied to lowregisterhead's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I think that's more due to the exchange rate with the Yen - not good at the moment! -

That's dollars, so it works out at about £4800 (plus shipping, VAT, import duty etc., admittedly). Although it sounds like a lot, an L2 or XL2 in very good nick will be around the 2K mark these days, so for a very early prototype in near mint condition, I wouldn't be too surprised if there's someone in the States who might be prepared to pay that amount. -

For sale is a hand made 5-string by Patrick Koopman (Stevie Vai's guitar tech) in the Netherlands. It weighs in at 3.9 kilos, has a 34" scale, 5-piece maple/wenge graphite reinforced neck, and a rosewood board with 'eye' markers at the 12th fret! 45mm at the nut, an ash body, Bartolini 72MV5K splitable dual coil pickup, with front coil, back coil, series and parallel settings via a rotary switch. Fitted with a Seymour Duncan STC-3M3 3-band preamp, with "slap" setting via pulling out the volume pot. Light weight Schaller carbon fibre/aluminium tuners, ABM Bridge. Spacing is currently set at about 18mm, but is adjustable. Strung with D'Addario EXL170's (45-130). It's in excellent condition, apart from a small dent in the lower bout, and filled holes where the original string retainer was, which was replaced by the previous owner. It's beautifully made, and has a huge array of sounds, but I've decided that the neck is just a little too slim for my gorilla mitts! When I first saw a picture of this bass on here a year or so ago, it wasn't for sale. I actually contacted Patrick to see what it would cost to build another with similar specs, and he quoted me 2500-2700 Euros, so what I'm asking for it (which is just what I paid for it) is an absolute bargain for a custom built bass. Dave bought my mixer. A wonderfully smooth transaction, and a charming fella to boot. Highly recommended!

A fairly recent acquisition...

It's very much down to personal taste, but I find the Aguilars with the Pope pre sound more modern and aggressive - brighter with more mid, and have noticeably more 'bite' than the Bartolini setup. The Aguilars and the Pope were in it when I bought the bass a few years ago, so the only comparison I can make is with the other 55-94 I'm selling, which is smoother and more polite in tone, although obviously it's a different bass, which could also be a factor. If you're anywhere near Woking in Surrey you're welcome to come and try both out. PM me if you want to arrange a visit.

WITHDRAWN Up for sale is my 55-94 - built in 2006. The 55-94s with a scratchplate and solid colours were usually referred to as 'standard' or 'classic' as opposed to 'deluxe' models, but this one has a swamp ash body with a translucent finish and a beautifully figured birdseye fingerboard, so the assumption is it was a special order. It's a really lovely bass, with the original Bartolini pickups and 3-band preamp. I got it in a trade a few months ago, but as I already have a 55-94 Deluxe, I really can't justify keeping both. It's been played, but it's in very good condition, the only marks being a few small dings in the finish along the top edge of the body which I've tried to show in the pictures, and a few nibbles on the tip of the headstock. The frets are in excellent shape, it's nice and light for a 5 at just over 4 kilos on my bathroom scales, and sits beautifully on a strap or the knee. I put on the chrome knobs, but the original rubberised ones are also included. WITHDRAWN

NOW SOLD For sale is my Cort GB75 JH 5-string, in trans black. I bought it a couple of months ago after reading several very positive reviews, which all proved to be right. It's absolutely as new, never been gigged, or even left the house, and comes with the added extra of a 5-knob John East Uni-Pre, which I fitted as the original preamp was a bit noisy and bland. (More about the John East here: https://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/uni-pre-4k-28.html) It's 35" scale with 19mm string spacing at the bridge. It's light at 4.3kg, and sits well on the knee or a strap. Bright and resonant, with a slim, fast neck. Now, what was already a very good bass for the money is really excellent. I'm only selling because I got another Lakland shortly after buying this, and I can't really justify keeping both. Bass Direct are selling these for £545, so I'm basically giving away the John East (which cost £217.50) for free. UK shipping is also included in the price. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades. Here's one of the reviews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2epfeHo2cs

Rock is finished - it has nothing more to say!
lowregisterhead replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
The trouble with the people who align themselves (and I include myself in this) with music rock music is if they were there when it happened, they are now way too old to be the target audience for grime, drill, L Devine, or anything else of the moment. None of what's current now can be the soundtrack to growing up, because we're all grown up. I've never been a particular fan of The Smiths, but I think Morrissey got it right when he sang "It says nothing to me about my life." But then I'm old, I'll be dead soon enough, and the wheels will keep on turning... Have a great weekend folks! 🙂 -
Up for sale is my Washburn Status S1000 in near mint condition! I bought it from a local guy who had kept it under his bed for years and hadn't even done a gig with it, and it shows. Slight finger swirl under the strings, otherwise pretty much as new. I play 5's most of the time, and I haven't even taken it out of the house myself, so I thought I would see if anyone fancies it. Can use either double ball end or regular strings. Weight on my bathroom scales is 3.9kg (although being headless, it sits so the shoulder so well it feels much lighter). String spacing 18mm at the bridge, 11mm at the zero fret. Complete with original fitted hard case. Due to the excellent condition, the price is £650 firm plus shipping. Can be seen / collected near Woking in Surrey. Sorry, I'm not looking for any trades. NOW SOLD PENDING THE USUAL.
