Did a little deal with Nico a while back now (sorry for the delay leaving this). He is a pleasure to deal with - communication was excellent, and he was utterly trustworthy throughout - buy/sell/trade with confidence. Thanks Nico!

Bag / protective sleeve for EBS Reidmar?
lowregisterhead replied to lowregisterhead's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for that - I will look into it :-) -
Apologies if this has already been covered (I did a search on BC, but didn't turn up anything) but does anyone make a bag or protective sleeve for the EBS Reidmar? I currently carry mine inside a small holdall with jack, speakon and power cables, guitar stands etc., and I know it's only a matter of time before something does it damage. I did see something on Roqsolid's site called a powerbag, but it looks like a full-sized bag in its own right. Alternatively, does anyone make a padded partitioned bag of suitable dimensions for the Reidmar and all my other tat? Thanks in advance Dave

In my experience there are no hard and fast rules that work in every situation - one person's recreational use of any drug, legal or otherwise, on a weekend can have no effect on their ability to function as a normal human being (I know, define 'normal') whereas to someone else the same level of ingestion will take them down a slippery slope almost immediately. So legislation or lack of it will suit some, but not most scenarios. To quote Gore Vidal on another, perhaps not completely unrelated topic: “There is no such thing as a homosexual or a heterosexual person. There are only homo -- or heterosexual acts. Most people are a mixture of impulses if not practices.”
Most of your favourite music (and art in general) was probably created by people on drugs - just a thought
Oh yes, how very true! I particularly like Bill Hicks' take on this subject... :-))
No need , I would imagine the bassist from his own band will do that at some point.
True - I hadn't thought of that. I feel better already! :-) -
From personal experience I highly recommend you check out Laklands. My Darryll Jones was superior to any Fender jazz bass I ever owned or played...including some nice vintage models. Lakland also used to do a Joe Osbourne jazz..they were highly regarded also.
+1 for Laklands. I also have a Skyline Series Darryl Jones, and it's exceptional. Pick one up second hand, stick a John East preamp in it (very easy to fit yourself) and you'll have a bass that will knock spots off the vast majority of Fenders, IMO.

Just an idle thought, prompted at least in part by Lee Sklar's assertion in Kiwi's interview with him that he's "...never had a drink or drugs..." (I don't disbelieve him, incidentally, but in the music world that's pretty exceptional, in my experience). Suffering as I am from cabin fever/withdrawal symptoms stranded overseas over Christmas visiting the wife's relatives without a bass or a gig in sight, what constitutes real addiction? Is there such a thing as acceptable drug use, for instance if the drug is music? It could be said that being involved in music is bad for you physically and mentally on several levels: late nights, bad food, poor environment, harsh criticism and (un)warranted adulation by turns, risk of substance abuse due to all of these factors, etc. Just because something gives you pleasure, if you suffer withdrawal when removed from it, should you therefore be trying to break the addiction altogether? Is music an addiction? Discuss.

And on a more personal level, during a pause in our sound check at a corporate event, the guitarist of another band on the gig walks past me and says, with heavy sarcasm: "Ooh. 5 strings. Gosh." I managed to resist the near-overwhelming urge to pin him to the ground and break his arms... -

Gormless female singer, after someone suggested we put 'Soul Man' in the set: "I really don't want to do that, it's so cheesy 80's..." Me and guitarist, in unison: "No, the original by Sam and Dave" G.F.S.: "Who?" -
On the subject of great syncopated bass lines by female bass players, what about Carol Colman of Kid Creole and the Coconuts - 'Stool Pigeon', 'Annie I'm Not Your Daddy', 'I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby' to name just three...

Well, there you go. Funny how these things get mixed up in your head over time - I thought it was Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads playing bass on this, but I must have got confused with Tom Tom Club's 'Wordy Rappinghood'... old age setting in... :-s

Every time I see break dancing, I can't help thinking "Oh dear, those youngsters are going to have terrible trouble with their knees when they're older..."

bass player wanted for gigging bluesfunkrock band
lowregisterhead replied to Mark Percy's topic in Bassists Wanted
Have a sense of humour, Sir
I would like to think I've got a fairly well developed sense of humour, but taking the pi** isn't generally that funny IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I've done it myself in the past, but thought better of it later, by which time it might have been too late. By that I mean that the various smart ar*e remarks are here for all to see - including by other prospective employers, who might think twice about employing some of the commentators for that very reason, but they'll never know why they didn't get a gig. I quite rightly got slapped down for some remarks I made on here a long time back, so please never forget this is a very public forum. How you play, the gear you've got and what you look like are only part of the equation. All of the serious bands and artists I know don't have much time for a loose canon, regardless of how good a musician they may be. Despite the perceived forthrightness of Mr Percy, he's got a perfect right to state his case on here any way he wants. I'm sure he would agree that he's got a reputation to maintain, but so do the rest of us. Like I said, if it's not your cup of tea, keep it to yourself and move on... -

He knows what he wants and says so. It saves anyone wasting their time, after all. The sarcy remarks are a bit uncalled for. If it's not your cup of tea, just move on... -
