1. The point being made is, you could argue that tab is neither theory nor technique, so why's it in the theory and technique section?
Dots are one way of communication for musicians tab is another. Ps I prefer dots but each to there own
2. When you take away your technique you have to slow down and think what you are playing this will help a lot on E bass and what a great opportunity to improve you reading also.
3. Can you be heard out front if every body eless thinks your too loud maybe you are not the one to judge. Volume is additive my advice would be to wean yourself off of the high volume and learn to listen and play quiter you will get used to it. and it will benifit you more in long run.
4. Most bass amps have a limited frequency range so putting a drum kit on the face of it is a bad idea it will eat up valuable headroom of the amp and struggle to produce the higher frequencies un less the cab has a HF driver of some sort. What is a good sound? that’s down to the individual the only way to find out if it works for you is to try is to try it. My advice is play within your means; a good quiet sound beats a bad loud sound any day If the gigs are paid is there any reason why you cannot invest some of the money back in to the band and upgrade the equipment as this will benefit you financially in the long term.
5. I have a Jap Squire strat and a Squire jazz bass deluxe they both great and would be hard pushed to say which is better my Jap fenders although the fenders would win.
6. Just save each files as one long wav then import them ot any DAW wav single files
7. There is no quick fix the best results will be gained INHO from compression and automation But if the volume changes are in the context of the song don’t be tempted to flatten all the waves out only to put them back with automation, use compression on a group track to help bond them together
8.
I don't gig anymore.
Shame, your band sounded good
9.
Had one at Ginglik. She was a bit rubbish really and a little rude - but no worse than the knob-wielding knob-twiddlers at every other gig.
I have said this many of time as a rule you get what you pay for, a lot of venues will not pay as people will work for peanuts or free. If your experience of engineers is predominantly bad then maybe you need to play better venues or pay more for a PA or it might time to look inwards
10. Try Devices / device set up / remote devices - quick controls / Press the + at the top left hand comer of the page find the Houston Controller click on it Set Midi in - midi out to whatever the Huston controllers are on apply Hope that helps
11. EAW may not be known to alot of bass players but if you are involved in PA then you will know how good they are.
12. Just Got My Focusrite Pro 40 back from repair apparently the FYI chip as failed plugged it in and the same thing as happened again or so I believe because there are the same symptoms. Do you think it could be my PC because it was fine when I was using the onboard FW port but it stopped working when I used a PCIE card. Can anyone shed some light on this please?
13. Just bought a Audere JZ3 Super fast delivery and great coms, Splendid bloke a to deal with. Thanls John
14. When you do a gig you are there to entertain, If you or any member of the band has a face like a slapped arse for what ever reason it looks bad on the band unless it's part of the image. "e obviously picked up on the fact that I was pissed off the night she saw us because our guitarist was pissing about more than usual between songs but mistook it for me not giving a sh*t?" To a lot of punturs is the bigist turn off is a face like a slapped arse but the guitarist was pissing about between songs whold piss me of too
15. I Use http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Advanced-Aco...s__W0QQ_armrsZ1
16. A Jaco type sound can cut through the mix. I would start with the amp EQ flat and play on the back PU then just do minnor tweaks. there is probely no room for a big fat sound
17. Get the music right and it will sort its self out If the keyboard player is playing different bass parts to you or even octave bass it can sound muddy it’s all about orchestration playing close intervals in low registers can sound muddy and ideally need to be an octave apart. Eg if the piano player plays the rout of a E miner and you play the g above or any note close it sounds muddy even if it’s in the cord Try it with a piano play Root and 3rd on the lower keys it sounds muddy now play a tenth it sounds clear Bit of waffle but I hope you get my meaning 2nd option Less bass more mid or less bass on the keys
18. Met a few like him, they often end up puting birds, booze or drugs first at gigs

20. The last time, I used 2 Se electronics Se3 One pointing in the F hole the other pointing up the neck, Technically, the SE3 has a frequency response covering 30Hz-20kHz, not bad for SD microphone. The acoustics can play a large part to the sound also
21. It's called a quarter tone, there are even music written in quarter tones.
22. I find strange that a band has a great instruments and backline and S+-T PA.
23. I would not have know it was homemade if you had not said, good song also a good song Full marks .
24. Thanks’ for the good advice Do you know where I can find some good phrases in notation to help me get started?
25.
As well as singing your ideas and at first THEN playing them to make sure you're not doing the reverse which is a common error (which Bilbo kindly attributed to me, but is not exclusively my idea ) I would also advocate playing through changes on a familiar tune, one which you have heard many people improvise on so might have some ideas and doing this completely without accompaniment. This leaves it to you to ensure that the sound of the changes is carried through your ideas. When playing with the best soloists you can always hear where they are unless they are particularly free, but that should come later.... and yes the blues is everything in jazz and you should be able to blow quite freely over them in any key.
I can tell when something is out of tune often when others can’t but I sing out of tune and often in monotones even though I am quite a musical person, Is this normal?
