1.
I had a very odd trip there. I was the only customer in the shop and the guy just wanted to ignore me completely! I was looking at an active bass, asked him what one of the controls was for: he said "I don't know" and carried on ignoring me.
I had a very similar experience at The American Guitar Centre in Tonbridge. They had/have a lovely USA Spector in there. I went down with a pocketful of cash to try it, took 30 minutes to get the MarkBass Momark demo thingy to actually work (the guy in the shop didnt know anything about it) so i had an amp to play through and then found the bass didnt actually work either. The guy there was completely uninterested and had a "oh well, never mind" sort of attitude. He didnt even suggest they open it up and have a quick look in case it was an obvious problem that could be quickly resolved. I dont think he was the owner though - there was another chap downstairs who was a bit more helpful (or at least chatty). I never went back. I have found DV247, The Bass Gallery in Camden, Gig Gear in Harlow and Bass Central in Florida most excellent though.
2. Its a great head!
3. Just picked up an aluminium case for my Fusion in Maplins today. Reduced from £35 to £19.99 and a bit tougher than a laptop case. Comes with all the foam. Will probably fit a load of other micro heads too. Worth a look if youre in the market.
4. Have a bargain bump!
5. Spare amp and also Hartke VXL di/preamp thingy just in case taken to every gig. Its being professional i think - we're getting paid to do a job and not let anyone down on the night so we cover most potential problem scenarios. Drummer has a spare snare, guitarist has 2 amps in a roadcase and 2 cabs, i have 2 separate amps and cabs in case one blows, we all have a spare guitar. We did a big gig in Cornwall last bank holiday which involved a lot of travelling, big audience, good pay and got to thinking "what if an amp blows at 10pm - we're stuffed!!" so made a few investments since then. Good for peace of mind i think.
6. Clarky, i work in the smoke a few days a week. I could chuck the GK MB Fusion in the car one day and pop round if you wanted to have a blast on it.
7. Just started using a GK MB Fusion head and mightily impressed with it
8. Chilli peps under the bridge?
9. NOW SOLD Immaculate Ashdown ABM500RC Evo3 amplifier and case. Bought about 6 months ago from DV247. Unmarked and includes a choice of either a Gator 2u rack ABS rack case or an Aguilar ProTec rack bag. Valve blend preamp, compressor, sub generator, eq in/out, preshape etc...... Bought as a backup amp and only used in a couple of rehearsals to test it out. I found i dont get on with the signature Ashdown sound so have replaced it with a GK Fusion and now have too many amps!!!!!!! Original manual and sales receipt included and you are welcome to pop round and have a play on it to check it out. If you're reading this, you probably know what a great amp this is so i wont rabbit on anymore about it. Prefer collection from Herts/Essex border (just off J7 M11 Harlow) but can deliver to London/Herts/Essex/Kent area by arrangement and a bit of petrol £340 Pics here
10. Nope not yet Just loaded up with a few months worth of an alternative brand in the meantime - sorry Andy! Will look again a bit later (unless you have a sample set in return for a quick review on the site ) I like the longevity of the nickels but they arent zingy enough for me hence trying to find the stainless ones
11. Is the cab a MAG or ABM series please?
12. Cheers Dave, i did. Just trying to buy British!
13. I believe they were launched at NAMM this year.
14. We've already got 6k of PA power amps!!!! I dont need another one The Hartke thingy would work as an emergency but i like a backline for onstage monitoring. Cheers
15. aNYONE????????????/
16. Just pushed the button on a Gallien MB Fusion thanks guys. Will arrive Thursday.
17. Link to 2nd hand Hartke VXL pedal here http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Pedals.html Sort of like a Sansamp with a di function too. Great standalone preamp and will add a bit of SVT valveyness if you want too.
18. Bass Direct have a secondhand Hartke VXL bass attack listed on their website for 50 quid. Ive got one and theyre great bits of kit. Might be worth a sniff.
19. Got a Hartke VXL preamp/di thingy but do a load of pub gigs too so ideally need a head. Just checked out the GK MB500 Fusion and it looks like it'll do the job. Hard to find in the shops locally for a demo though. Lozz, do you wanna sell yours? Cheers guys
20. Need some help choosing a new backup amp. Main bass is a Euro 4lx. Main amp is a Hartke LH500. Love the warmth, punch and fatness of the Hartke but struggling to settle on a spare amp. Would like something different but with similar qualities. Also have an Ashdown ABM500RC evo 3 and find it too soft, big and bassy for my taste so thats probably going to go. Today tried an Ampeg PF500 and GK RB700. Thought the GK sounded nice in a hifi sort of way and the Ampeg was ok but had just the one sound which i think i like - the mid controls didnt seem to do much though. Any thoughts on the above or possibly a GK MB500 instead? The logical thing to do is buy another LH500 but it'd be nice to try something different. Need about 500 watts and running a couple of 15" cabs. Playing noisy modernrock covers mainly. If anyones got something suitable they want to trade for the Ashdown, drop me a pm (hope this doesnt break any rules, let me know if it does and i'll edit the post) Cheers __________________ Spector Club member #290
