  1. Stop it! I couldn't get down for a few weeks anyway - 2 gigs next weekend and working away all this week. The missus doesn't help - 'Why do you need another one, you already have one" was the correct response not "Go on then, give him a shout and go get it" She costs me a fortune.....
  2. What are you trying to do to me!!!! I just gigged the other one you had last night and was just thinking I wouldn't mind another one as a back up😂
  3. We played our first gig for 539 days last night at a pub in Essex. I was actually a bit nervous about it which is unusual as it never normally happens but by the time we were hooking the PA and lights up I had forgotten about it and calmed down. It was an absolute cracker of a night and probably the best gig we have done at this venue - it was even more busy than the NYE gig we did there a couple of years back and the crowd were really up for it. We had a couple of 'moments' but no one else seemed to notice. Extremes Get the Funk Out was a new one that got it's first airing and the drummer had a wobble coming out of the middle breakdown bit but we retrieved it - we haven't seen many other bands do it and it's going to work well for us when its settled in to the set. I've always wanted to do it and it's taken some time but it sounds great. Loads of punters came up at the break and afterwards to say how much they had enjoyed it and there were even a couple of bass players complimenting the bass sound as well which was nice. I used my new secondhand Mesa BB750 for the first time and it's an absolute monster of an amp - meaty and warm with effortless headroom, It's just pure fat grunt. I was so pleased with the sound personally (I was grinning from the first song) and the fact that so many others mentioned it was great to hear. I'm probably going to have to find another one (or a Warwick Tubepath) as a backup now and sell everything else! Next weekend is a double header at two of our fave venues and I can't wait...
  4. Well, if it was me i would be looking at these as I don't think a single 2x10 will cut it in a live situation. Haven't tried the Fender so can't comment on that but i'm working on the premise that the 2 suggestions below would have been considered more premium when they were new so should perform a bit better.
  5. Some Paramore maybe? Possibly Ain't it Fun (there's a bit of bass tomfoolery in this one) or maybe The Only Exception if you want to slow it down a bit

  7. This........... A fantastically versatile head and a bargain if you grab a used one. You need to spend some time with one to get the best out of it. The scoop button effect needs to be tamed in a live situation though - either disengage the scoop button and get all your eq via the knobs or use the scoop and whack a load of mids back in to it. One of the few amps I've had, sold and would happily buy again.
  8. 'tis rather good
  9. You know this is a 9 year old thread.....
  10. Second time i've done a deal with Jamie. Top notch transaction as always - dead easy to deal with and he has great taste in gear as well. Cheers Jamie!
  11. I'm only up the road from East London - J7/J8 off the M11 and you're welcome to pop up for a play on mine at some time if you like......
  12. It did. It was oiled/waxed as per most USA Sterlings rather than a satin finish like the SB14 has. I found the USA one to be slightly deeper though and more of a rounded profile and my hand would cramp up a bit on some gigs. The SB14 is less deep and a bit flatter at the back although the same 38mm nut width. Its only a minor thing but for some reason my hand is fine on the cheaper bass. And I swear I cannot hear any difference in the sound at all - it's pretty much identical. I see you have a Sandberg VM4 in your collection - i had an old one of those and the SB14 neck is very close to that. The fingerboard radius is a bit rounder on the SB14 - my Sandy was noticeably flatter.
  13. I can’t comment on the current Sterling series basses and neck widths but I have a Sterling SB14 which I think would have been a forerunner of them. If you can find one they’re an absolute bargain but you don’t see them often. It’s an Indonesian built Sterling with the smaller body, headstock, pickup switching options and jazz neck from a few years back which I believe were sent to the USA factory for final set up and QC control. Having previously owned and sold a ‘proper’ USA Sterling (amongst various other USA Stingrays) I much prefer my little SB14. Sound wise and quality wise I can’t tell the difference between it and it’s expensive USA big brother but I much prefer the neck. It’s still jazz width but it’s less full in the hand and has a satin finish rather than the waxed MM one. I used to cramp up on the old one but I don’t with this.
  14. £200 is perfect - the door will be open to a load of good quality basses that won't hold you back as you progress. Buy from the classifieds on here if you can and you'll easily get a great bass - the people on here are a great bunch as a rule and don't be scared to ask questions, we've all been where you are. Look at stuff by Yamaha, Squier and Ibanez as a starting point. As you're starting out you may find something with a "Jazz" width neck (38mm) as it's pretty slim and you should find it easier on your hands. Ibanez are known for having skinny and easy to play necks. Good luck with your new journey and always remember that you're doing it for your own enjoyment!
  15. You should at least contact Bogart to register your disappointment - give them a chance to throw some options at you and make the call from there. It seems a bit odd to me just to suck it up and throw more of your own money into sorting out a manufacturing issue within a warranty period?
  16. Here you go.... https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Quilter_800.html
  17. Quilter Bass Block 800. A total of 4 knobs (and 2 of those are volume and gain) Simpler than me.....
  18. Are you getting sound? Is it just that the clip LED isn't lighting up? if it's on both amps it must be an input issue from your bass or signal chain. Maybe a dodgy lead?
  19. hence the line at the bottom....:-)
  20. Apologies if this is anyone on here but does this look a bit ambitiously priced? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124745235260?hash=item1d0b653b3c:g:cusAAOSwUZhgr~Xh Ooops i just saw someone else had posted the same thing - sorry Mods
  21. The Maruthingy basses got a lot of love a while back (possibly one of those brands of the moment maybe?) but more recently there were a few quality issues that seemed to be dealt with poorly and I don't thnk they covered themselves in glory. It would certainly stop me buying one anyway. Try a Sandberg......
  22. Sat in my new Stressless chair with an empty house playing Mammoth WVH on Spotify right now - a rare moment of me time on a Saturday. First impressions are that i really like it - good songwriting and he really has his own identity going on
  23. Ooooffff!!! That Spector ❤️......... I would be happy sitting at home looking at that! And i bought a few bits during lockdown but realised that it was because i was bored rather than needed them so moved most of them on. Apart from a Handbox R400 which i'm looking forward to giving it the beans :-)
