Basslines you struggled to learn then...BOOM!
Mudpup replied to donslow's topic in General Discussion
Glenn Hughes basslines are usually fun to try - particularly the later solo funky stuff. Not always technically difficult but getting the sublime feel he has is the hard bit. They always sound like one take recordings to me and played from the heart. -
Do all class D heads really lose their thud at volume?
Mudpup replied to alexa3020's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's 4 amps with quite distinctive and different tonal signatures. An interesting and diverse selection. I would go for the used ABM600 evo4 if it was me.... -
I don't know anything about Rob Chapman.... But that bass is BLOODY LOVELY!!!! (I can see the Warwick thing but there's a bit of Zon in there too in my eyes) Can i ask how much it was? i think you've just ruined my GAS list.....

Class D amps i have tried in loud band scenarios and subsequently sold on mainly because i felt they lost the whoomph when pushed - Genz Shuttle 9.2 (900w) Gallien MB Fusion (500w) MarkBass Evo1 (500w) Genzler Magellan 800 (800w) (much better than the previous 3 though - maybe because of newer power module design?) Mesa Boogie Subway D800 (800w) (as above....) Class D amps i have tried in loud band scenarios, still own and use regularly because they retain 90% of the whoomph when pushed - Quilter Bass Block 800 (800w) (doesn't use an off the shelf power module like the above ones to my knowledge) Class D amps i have yet to use in a band scenario - Darkglass M900 (900w) (last chance saloon for class D for me - if that doesn't do it for me then nothing will) All used with the same old cabs (Barefaced BB2 Gen3) for all of them. Same band. Same hairy ended drummer. And mostly the same venues. Class A/B amps that i currently use as first choice or would cheerfully have again (for reference) - Gallien Krueger 700RBii EBS TD650 Ashdown ABM600 evo4 Handbox R400 (not used in anger yet but it's looking promising) Make of that what you will....I'm assuming it's a type of power supply thing or headroom thing as the higher power ones or the amps without the generic power supplies are closer to my liking. -
Gary sorted out a few bits on one of my basses this week. Lovely fella, great quality work and turned the job round really quickly.

The thing you're doing wrong is buying cheap stuff and expecting it to function properly or for a reasonable amount of time 😉Most are the same bit of rubbish Chinese kit rebranded and brought in by a box shifter. Spend a few quid extra and get something from a dealer who will support both the product and you in these situations. They won't exist in the future if we're not careful....

Fingerboards look too light to me. If you're going to try and do vintage looking at least do the whole job......ebony would have worked better

A sad loss..... And how he managed to play at all running around the stage at 200mph in those stripey trousers with a Thunderbird banging on his knees was beyond me. I saw them numerous times at Hammy Odeon back in the day and it was always a top gig.

Something along the lines of Elf might be better......oh, hang on 😂

Auditioned for a guitarist and it's too close to call
Mudpup replied to NoRhino's topic in General Discussion
I'm leaning towards the one that doesn't twiddle his knobs. We have one of those and it drives everyone nuts. He can't do it at gigs cos he's tied to the mic but it's irritating at rehearsals. And he's been playing the same guitars and amp for 20 years so if he hasn't 'found his sound' by now there's no hope...... -
How spectacularly can you fall off this years gear abstinence thread?
Mudpup replied to Mudpup's topic in General Discussion
Genzler Magellan 800 (gone now) Mesa Subway D800 (gone now) Bergantino CN212 (but I only had it a week😔) A job lot of Markbass strings Behringer UMC22 interface Native Instruments M32 midi keyboard Sire V7 bass Handbox R400 amp Darkglass M900 amp -
Right, there's a thread running currently which celebrates gear abstinence during 2020. I joined up and lasted a couple of weeks before I broke down and bought something. Lockdown has compounded the issue and I've accumulated more this year than ever (admittedly I've sold a bunch of stuff too which helps me justify it at least in my mind!) So here's a thread to help you confess your sins... I want to know what you've picked up since January 1st. You're free to add subsequent acquisitions through the year so don't hold back 😂 I'll start below....
-
I think we need a sister thread as well.....something along the lines of "How spectacularly can you fall off the 2020 Gear Abstinence wagon" I would have to be a serious contender on that one albeit an epic failure on this one :-)

I must admit it takes half the fun out if it... 😂

Ashdown ABM600 for the win. Don't use the scoopy thing or compressor on it though. Massive power and really versatile - it'll do clean and bell like clarity or grit if you want it. I've had both the Mesa D800 and the Magellan 800 and they didn't work for me. Both a bit too soft sounding for my taste.

He's been there already....
-
You're not alone........Handbox R400 and a Darkglass M900 sitting on top of my cab waiting to be fired up in anger for the last couple of weeks.....
-
It won't hurt the amps. It'll just be a bit louder than a single 8 ohm cab and not quite as loud as a 4ohm setup at a given master volume . Although barely noticeable i would think.

We have made a band decision to offer all of our regular gigs a single "expenses only" gig on a date to be mutually agreed to try and pay a bit forward and help support them. We aren't reliant on the money and do it for fun really but appreciate a lot of people are pro and we wouldn't undermine the payment side of things. We would expect other gigs to be at the going rate per venue. We just want to cover a bit of petrol on the night but also have a monthly storage bill to pay (hence having some control over the date - it wont necessarily be the first gig back at each venue as we want to spread it out a bit)

Nigel sold his Darkglass M900 amp to me. Great Basschatter - super fast transaction and totally easy to deal with! Cheers Jon 👌 😊
