  1. It's that neck Harry!!!! Its special :-)
  2. Thats what i use - gigged every weekend for about the last 4 years (so about 200 gigs and then rehearsals on top of that) and its never skipped a beat. Receiver is mounted on my pedalboard and the transmitter is a robust metal unit. Discontinued a few years back so i am on the lookout for a spare just in case....
  3. When did Jeremy Clarkson start singing for The Cure????
  4. Hard work last night - pub gig and played to about 20 people inside whilst 50 people sat outside and listened from there. I don't blame them as i would prob have done the same but it makes it difficult to stay interested. Sore fingers from sweaty hands all night too.
  5. This exactly.....any other option will not be trying a Stingray - it'll be trying a Stingray copy :-)
  6. Sheryl Crows band sounded good - nice Reverend bass on the first song :-)
  7. If you have an £800 budget just go direct to getting a used American Stingray from the classifieds on here. It may be a bit scruffy but they're tough basses and it should be perfectly usable. If you get a new Sterling for £800 you'll always be wondering if its the same as a 'real' Stingray. Which it isn't..... Its close but not the same. If you buy at the right price used you can always sell it on for about the same price if you don't bond with it. But you'll have scratched your itch. Re the 2 band /3 band sound - they are quite different. There isn't actually a flat setting on the 2 band as it's a boost only preamp but the 3 band is centre detented. And that isn't necessarily a flat response. The 2 band generally has a warmer bootier sound in my experience.
  8. Dodgy deal done in a motorway service area today with Harry. It was a transcontinental epic trade of basses with Harry travelling about a million miles and myself settling for a lowly 100! Fabulous comms all the way through. Great guy and a total gent to boot - one for the Carlsberg Basschatters group :-) Enjoy the Stingray Harry!
  9. Just discovered this........cant stop listening to the album :-)
  10. Alter Bridge and Shinedown in Dec ☺️☺️
  11. There's loads of them on WDMusic.co.uk........
  12. Bob, you know theres a gentleman's agreement on this site that the original poster pays £1 for each response don't you??? 😉 The invoice will be incoming...... Seriously, and no offence intended, you should have gone to a local shop and paid a few quid extra to buy locally and use the advice and service that would have been offered in the purchase discussions. This is all that is wrong about buying based on price on the internet - its ok if you think you know what you are doing but a minefield if you don't. And you cant put a price on face to face advice and local support. I hope you get your speakers sorted.... Love and snuggles.......
  13. For Sale TRADED 1997 Musicman Stingray 4 string bass Single humbucker, 2 band eq, rosewood neck, Hipshot D Tuner (original included too) and Schaller straplocks fitted. Comes with a new Fender FB620 gig bag. Not too sure i want to sell this but i've accumulated too much gear and have bought a car that i would like to spend a few quid on so i'm having a clear out. If you want a mint new condition bass this isn't the one for you - she's been played and gigged for 22 years and has some marks to show it. All electrics and mechanical parts are fully functional and smooth in operation. Tuners and truss rod are great and theres no crackles or weird fizzy noises going on. There are a few small scratches on the body (mainly on the back and lower edge and the worst scratch can be seen on the lower rear back corner in a picture) but no lacquer chips or worn through to the finish buckle rash. The front is free of scratches apart from a tiny dink on the top bout. From a few feet away she looks mint though. I left her too near a hot stage light a few years back and its kind of rippled the finish on the forearm contour - its not cracked or through the finish but its there and you can see and feel it. I was thinking of getting a refinish but decided it was better to keep her honest and I genuinely prefer basses that i don't need to be precious with. The chrome on the bridge has a bit of pitting and there's a small lacquer chip under the edge of the lower part of the bridge. Unusually she doesn't have the lumps out of the headstock that most Stingrays have :-) And that brings me to the neck! Its the best neck i've ever played on any bass in 40 years. It's totally played in and has the softest edges you'll ever find. Its aged to a beautiful honey colour (its not grubby like loads of other ones) and has a warm smooth waxed finish - its almost roasted in feel. It's a neck i wish i could have on all my other basses. The frets are in 9/10 condition all the way up the neck. It's the reason i'm not sure i can let her go and i have a feeling i may regret this but i have 3 other basses that i gig more regularly. Collection from near Stansted Airport, maybe meet up Essex/Herts/London way and any trial welcome with free biscuits and tea. Sorry no courier option - i don't trust them and if your'e spending on this kind of thing its worth a trip out. Anyway, heres the evidence...... 14. Sold PRICE DROPPED TO £550 Thunderfunk TB550-B These don't come around very often - If you're reading this then you probably already know a bit about them...... I picked this up in an exchange a few months back - I had too many amps, needed to shift one and was offered this as a trade. We've all been there - curiosity gets the better of you and you think "what the hell, it'll be fun to try something new!" The fact remains i still have too much stuff, I've bought a little sports car that i want to spend a few quid on and i need to move the amp on to finance it. (There's going to be a nice Stingray up for sale soon as well!) A fabulous boutique amp that is hand made using absolutely top notch components by Dave Funk in the USA and it's a holy grail amp to some. Super rare in this country and housed in a top notch Boschma 4u lightweight rack case. The 2u amp is designed to run hot as the casing is actually the heat sink so i put it in a 4u case and added vented blanking plates to help the heat dissipation just in case. Its the 'B' version which has The Switch -a switchable Tube Emulation circuit so you can run a Solid State or Tube style sound at any volume (the original B550 had a circuit that got tubier sounding as you turned the volume up but you couldn't switch it off). It's 550 watts into 4 ohms, has a headphone out and line in, a limiter and a fully parametric eq as well as standard treble and bass controls. The secret weapon controls are the 'Enhance' and 'Timbre' controls - you can literally set up your sound using these 2 controls without touching an eq control - they're brilliant. Oh and it only weighs 17lbs so is by no means heavy to carry about. Collection ideally from near Stansted Airport but i could possible drop off by arrangement in the Essex/Herts/London/Kent/Suffolk areas as i travel about a bit for work. Definitely not up for any trades this time around though 🙂 And I don't like couriers (no offence if you're a courier, its not personal) so please don't ask.... Here's a link to the manual which is quite a good read https://www.thunderfunk.com/Downloads/Thunderfunk_OwnersManual.pdf And here are some pictures below - if you need to know anything else just drop me a message. Thanks for looking. 15. I have a ProGo X from the original bargain listing which seems to be the same features but a different fabric. Its fine for around £50 and better than most up to around £70/80. Plenty of space and padding and decent pockets too. Have a look at a Fender FB620 as an alternative too - i have both and would be happy with either.
  16. Its because its not actually a DI output - its a line level XLR out. Although its easily useable as a DI if you get your levels onstage first and then adjust the desk levels.
  17. You don't send the tone shaping to the FOH sound usually. Most sound engineers prefer a clean signal for their ease of use in my experience. You can come straight out of the Quilters XLR into the desk but just have to be aware that if you change your stage volume it'll affect the signal to the desk. But you probably wouldn't be messing with that after soundcheck anyway......
  18. The Quilter hasn't really got a DI - its an XLR output and is affected by the master volume. But its a great amp and you could always buy a BDI21 for £20 to get around it if necessary.....
  19. here you go.....delivery on Monday https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Warwick-42300-Red-Label-Medium-Light-Bass-Strings-40-130-5-String/NEM https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Warwick-42301-Red-Label-Medium-Bass-Strings-45-135-5-String/NEL
  20. Just had our gig on Saturday June 1st scratched by the venue.....to be fair they've offered an alternative though. Some football match happening that everyone's suddenly got interested in apparently 😉 Anyone due out that night may want to check with the venue.......
  21. My thinking is that we spend hours travelling, setting up and tearing down so 5 or 10 minutes making sure no-one comes up after the gig and says they couldn't hear the vox or the guitar was too quiet is time very well spent. We have a no widdling policy and are very conscious the punters are probably trying to have a chat and a drink before the band starts so we try to have minimal disruption for them.
