  1. It's not just the music industry - its the race to the bottom where everything revolves around buying something cheaper....whether its internet shopping or lowering manufacturing costs for increased profitability 😞
  2. I think i'll buy up a few Spector Euros as an investment before Korg starts cutting corners on them. I reckon "pre Korg" is going to be desirable in the future.
  3. Just spotted this... http://mmrmagazine.com/featured/korg-usa-inc-acquires-spector-bass-company/?fbclid=IwAR1hKBxOQ7yMjzOYzOI21XWTMp1K2uH5wfClrFjGTCOgwkpg_o3ylLn0ZuA Seems like Stuart Spector has sold up to Korg. PJ Rubal is still there for the transition period. I wonder where it'll go from there?
  4. I had a Euro 4 LX for a few years and currently play a 50's Lacquer Precision and also a Sandberg PM4 (which is may be fairly similar to your Maruszczyk??). I had always wanted one, loved the looks and the sound that i had heard on records and it was a 50th birthday indulgent gift from the missus so i really tried to love it but ultimately it wasn't for me. The Spector could be from a different planet compared with the 2 P bass styles. I couldn't get a Precision tone from it - the Tonepump preamp and EMG pickups sound much more modern and it doesn't have the warm low mid punch that works so well in a band that the Fender P bass has. The Spector has oodles of big clean low end and sparkle but is much more hifi sounding. It didn't have the fatness of a Precision and i found it a bit sterile. It may not do the Motown thing too well in my opinion. I didn't find it as comfortable as a P bass to play either when stood up - it wasn't particularly heavy but it feels like the 1st fret is a few inches further out to your left due to the bridge being mounted inboard to the body. Everything feels a bit closer in on the P bass. And i think i prefer slightly bigger bodies too in general. Lovely quality though. I think you would be better off grabbing a used one off here - if you don't gel with it when you've gigged it a bit you can flip it back with minimal loss. At £1700 you're taking a risk.
  5. Have you listened to the middle bit of Stranglehold? Or did you switch off after 2 minutes? Its got a bass solo in it!!!! 🙂
  6. I would second the Warwick Reds suggestion.......
  7. I had an 80s RSB Deluxe 2 back in the day too. Fabulous bass, really nice. All black with gold hardware. I couldn't afford an SB series one....
  8. But he keeps climbing out......we're gonna get it tinted like a pimpmobile 😂
  9. That’s the one, yes. And they are great guys in there. Real good attitude, service and always competitively priced.
  10. Bless you Blue, thanks. Its a fun thing, good mates and playing everything i loved growing up. The perfect fit for me and that's a thing to be cherished..... Here's a bit more from the same night - a bit of less rocky 80's classic pop
  11. January is always a potential tumbleweed month after all the Xmas spending and drinking so we weren't expecting much at last nights pub gig in Hertford. Its a nice pub with great staff/owners and usually a resident crowd though so we were optimistic that i would be ok if a little quiet. I got to use my new (secondhand) Zon bass for the first time at a decent volume and it was good to see how it fitted in live. We have to be a bit careful with the volume in there so used a Quilter BB800 and a single Barefaced BB2. Nice easy load in and lightweight gear is a lovely thing! Everything set flat and the amp just ticking over at 40% volume. It wasn't quiet!!! About 20 people in there at 9pm but by the time we started at 9.30 it was filling up and by 10pm it was flipping packed :-) And they danced from the start.....We had a blinder - played well, no noticeable mishtakes, great crowd, love my new bass, caught up with some old mates that i hadn't seen for a while and loads of compliments afterwards. The band even commented how well the bass fitted into the overall sound. A good start to 2019..... P.S beware of Summer of 69 played in drop D content half way thru the clip 😉
  12. Agreed, i tried them after your recommendation and they're great value. I'll stick with them when my job lot of DR's runs out....
  13. I picked up a Quilter BB800 amp early in 2018 as an experiment and am delighted with it - at last i have a small lightweight amp that delivers some proper heft. I'm happy to gig it in place of my EBS TD amps and thats the first class D i can say that about. And on Christmas Eve I nipped down the guitar shop to grab a skinnier lighter gig bag and came away with said gig bag full of new bass! I don't normally take much notice of the basses in there as i'm happy with what i have but i went upstairs for a look as i hadn't visited for ages. Fatal mistake...they had a Zon Sonus Standard in the secondhand section, absolutely mint (I don't buy new basses anymore). I had played one years ago and really liked it but never pushed the button on one. And i'm pretty sure i wont see another used one for a long time. Had a play on it, loved it, the sales guy spotted an opportunity and tempted me with a great price. I buy basses to gig with so i rarely know whether they will stick until i've gigged them. Last night was D Day. And I love it! The guys in the band all said they liked it in the mix, its easy to play and sounded fabulous to me. I just listened back to some video of the night and it really works in the band. Pretty sure its a keeper for me. Problem is that i have a one in,one out policy so i need to move another one on and i love them all 😞 And there haven't been any duffers - i haven't bought anything other than strings.....
  14. The Christmas bits purge continues....... I built a spare pedalboard in case anything happened to my main one but its never been needed. It's sat in the spares box blinking at me and needs to get out to some gigs...... So you can buy the whole lot as an instant gig board with all the crucial stuff (tuner/compressor/drive) on it. Just add a power supply of your choice. Obviously i'd rather just make one trip to the post office if possible so i'd prefer not to split at the moment. It consists of....... Pedaltrain Metro 16 pedalboard in soft case. Velcro applied and in great condition with no zip issues on the case. £47 new. SOLD Korg Pitchblack chromatic tuner in classy black chrome finish - new condition, never used. No velcro applied - i can chuck some in though. About £50 new. SOLD DOD FX84 Milkbox compressor. Highly regarded - have a look on Ovnilabs for an honest review - and increasingly hard to find. Used but not abused condition and sounds brilliant. Velcro applied. Usually go for about £45 used. SOLD Behringer BDI21 Bass Driver/DI box. Bargaintastic Sansamp sort of thing to give you a bit of fruit/edge and a useable DI box. Velcro applied. Usually about £20/25 new. WITHDRAWN It would cost about £160 to build it from scratch. I'm working a price out based on these values... Pedaltrain and bag £30 Pitchblack tuner £35 Milkbox compressor £45 BDI21 no charge So how about £110 for the whole caboodle plus whatever the postage cost is??? Oh and if i'm out on the pricing please feel free to contact me with an offer via PM :-) Collect from Herts/Essex if you prefer to save postage :-) Thanks for looking - please PM me with any questions
  15. Aircell Strap for sale now sold Hardly used so in great condition, just a little bit of creasing on the leather ends. Neoprene and aircell construction so it's super comfy.148cm long at its longest. I'm having a post Crimbo gear purge...... Currently £30 online so i thought £20 posted sounded ok?. If you can collect from Harlow/Bishops Stortford area or grab it from a gig i'll knock a couple of quid off :-) Thanks for looking
  16. It looks great to me. Sandberg are very consistent - you rarely hear of issues with them. I have a PM4 and its got a great slim playable neck along with great pickups - its quite similar to the OR Signature one but has a different model of pickup (although still a MM/P) configuration. And i love their roadworn finishes personally.
  17. Helicopter tape........ It's used to protect leading edges of helicopter blades from stone chips so its pretty tough and easily applied/removed. I use it on my mountain bikes and people also use it on the front of cars - you can get various grades and lengths but try this lot.... http://www.paragontapes.co.uk/
  18. I think on the whole its pretty well behaved on here. I've noticed one or two repeat offenders being a bit spiky - it looks like theres a bit of history between them - and you get the odd person going off on a rant but thats reflective of life in general. Its pretty difficult to portray the tone of a conversation on the internet though and maybe some things get lost in translation and become heated. The positives massively outweigh the negatives to me though. And i would echo the thanks to the mods as well for keeping everyone in line :-)
  19. I could never get on with the older ABM series but that ABM600 EVO4 is a different beast. Apparently it has a different power amp and thats what makes a big difference. I'd cheerfully have another one.
  20. I always had it switched off as i didn't think it improved anything...
  21. I know exactly what you mean..... it seems to really bring out the differences.
  22. If you're using a Precision and a Stingray you've got 2 significantly different and characteristic basses - the P with the low mid push and the Ray with a big lower end and sizzly treble. It'll be hard to get a similar sound from both i think without big changes at the amp. I remember with the Ray having to cut the bass dial back a fair bit, drop the 180hz a tiny bit (it took the honk out), push the 340hz a touch, crank the mid dial about 3/4 of the way up and push all 3 mid/treble slider a fair bit. The treble dial didn't seem to do much. Looked weird but sounded great. This was thru a couple of Barefaced cabs that work better over eq'ed anyway so it may be a bit much depending on your cabs. The Precision baked in sound seems to suit the amp with much more minimal eq. The low mid grind it has works really well with a flatter setting or even with the scoop engaged and a bit of bass roll off at the amp. And yes, just going up or down a couple of db on the sliders made a massive difference sound wise at each frequency - particularly those low mid ones.
  23. I had a Hartke LH500 for a while - you're right, lovely piano sort of clean sound available from it. So it sounds like clean and sparkly but with rich harmonics is what you're after? Maybe a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 or upwards would work for you if you can find one - they pop up on here sometimes. They do clean very well and the valve adds a bit of fruit rather than grind. Or you may well find the GK MB Fusion will do it as you first thought. The Terror Bass is probably a bit fuzzy rather than clean though. Theres a few good deals on Orange 4 Strokes that have been floating around recently and a few guys on here have them incoming - that could be worth a look (apparently it does a clean version of the Terror Bass sound)
  24. You're on the wrong thread here buddy....you're only allowed in if you want to slate Jools or the ethnic/yoof/crumbly wannabes that are on it. Go start your own thread..... 😉
  25. They're gradually sneaking him in as Jools's replacement for next year - he's getting a weekly slot for 2019 😂
