Theres also a bass that bridges the gap between the two above - the 50's Classic Lacquer Precision. Finished in a thin nitro cellulose lacquer like the Roadworn but no roadwearing done..... Its a DIY Roadworn effectively And it comes in black/maple....

Well that worked out ok, needn't have worried after all.....Venue has a capacity of 160, sold 200 tickets allowing for no shows and the clicker on the door said there were 184 people in there :-) Everyone up for it from the start, we did 3 sets for a change. 9.30 till 10.30, 10.45 till 11.45, watched the fireworks till 12.15 then played until 1am when the drummer finally conked out on us. We played well, the sound was good, lights and lasers looked fab and the crowd were brill - including the 'mature' lady having sex with the crowd barrier right in front of me in the last set........get the wet wipes out..... The owner was delighted with us "you guys are just pure rock and roll, what a night - probably the best gig we've ever had here, gave the punters exactly what they wanted, they're all going home buzzing". Job done! A fabulous night and ended the year on a real high.

Essex pub gig 1/2 hour from home for me :-) Easy load in, decent pay and no volume or hazer machine issues there so we can use all the lights and lasers and put on a bit of a show. We play there about 4 times a year normally and its a small but fun venue - good owners, friendly crowd and decent door staff. I'm looking forward to it but not sure what the turnout will be like as they've had a couple of really good bands there on Friday and Saturday and i wonder if the regulars may be a bit spent out....

Good choice - i have a Stingray and a Sandberg PM4 (so not quite the same but...) and i love them both. But whenever i gig with any of my other basses for a change i always miss playing the Ray.

We have 2 left this year - Saturday and NYE - and that'll take us to 48. Next year we have 48 confirmed and a few waiting in the wings. The good thing is that every single one is one we all love doing, we've dropped the shaky ones, the ones that don't promote or have an indifferent crowd and the smaller venues that are a bit of a squeeze. Oh and its just the one band - I don't have time for anything else. Its been a pivotal year for us

See above..... I've got an old PM4 and it does a very very good P bass with just the neck pickup selected. And it does loads of other stuff too. And thats going nowhere even though i don't play it live much. I've just bought a 50's Classic Lacquer P bass too because it does even more of a P bass thing and has a lovely meaty neck. There is just a certain something about a real one that you just cant replicate 100% with another brand. Its the fruity mids and low mids that seem to just work in a live band setup with a genuine Fender P - i dont think it works as well as other basses at home but chuck it in a gig with a drummer and they have a whole different thing going on. I had a Spector Euro 4 for a few years - wanted to gel with it as it was a significant birthday pressie from the missus but ultimately moved it on. It sounded a bit too sterile for my taste and i couldnt get used to the reach for the 1st few frets. Certainly doesn't do P bass IMHO. Beautiful bit of furniture though and i think everyone should try one for a bit :-) Had a Yammy 424 for a while too - that was about the closest to a P bass i found - it had a woody earthyness to the tone. Fabulous bass and great value. Couldn't get on with the neck though so sold it on. Might try another one someday....

According to the manual it puts out 460w into 4 ohms and 660w into 2 ohms - i just thought that 200w would be a noticeable difference.....maybe even just adding headroom for when i do push it hard. We do a few regular gigs in strange sounding rooms that suck the guts out of the sound (i've noticed this with all my amps, not just this one) and i have had to push them pretty hard to get the sound balance sorted. The notch filter on the amp may sort it out but i was just looking at potential options (and i was stuck inside in the snow with not much else to do apart from GAS about stuff )

Yeh i know, but its a fairly consistent one over there so i thought it may have a bit of substance. I probably need to borrow something and just try it at a louder gig to see if the theory is sound and then make a decision from there..

There are quite a few user reviews on the USA bass site that say the amp really opens up and begins to 'breathe' better at 2ohms.

I have a dilemma I've recently grabbed a new amp that runs best at 2 ohms - an EBS TD660 - and i want to maximise its output. I also plan on keeping my GK 700RB which maxes out at 4 ohms. Effectively i need a modular cab setup that could be used to achieve maximum oomph from both amps. I like a big sound with booty and zing. Using a Stingray or Precision mainly. I currently use 2 x Barefaced BB2 cabs (8 ohms each/4 ohms total) in a loud rock band so need a load of welly. I could sell both of the BB2's and replace them with a couple of 4 ohm cabs of some description - maybe a 4x10 and a 2x10 or a 2 x 12 and a 1 x12 of some sort to keep some options. That gets me down to 2 ohms. I could just add a cab (either 4 or 8 ohm) to my existing setup - but this is getting too big i reckon, i'll have a 9 foot tall rig. I could sell a single BB2 and add a 4ohm cab of some sort - any ideas as to which cab would complement the Barefaced? Maybe a Super 12? This will get me somewhere nearer my 2 ohm goal at 2.67 ohms.... I would prefer to buy secondhand from the market place here... Any ideas/opinions/wisdom would be gratefully appreciated - what would you do?

Why do i have to press shift+return when i only press return on every other site??? I don't want a blank line - i simply want the next line. Its bugging me because its anti intuitive ........especially if i have to write a longer message or post.

Sold 3 x sets of 6 string DR Lo Rider stainless strings 35 - 125 gauge (or 45 - 105 in 4 string language/45 - 125 in 5 string lingo and do what you like with the spare strings!!!) Brand new, boxed and unused - currently £44 each at Bass Direct although list price is £50 £75 Lets make it £65 for all 3 sets and a couple of quid for postage (or you can collect if you're local of course). Grab a secondhand version of whichever you fancy from the classifieds on here (they both pop up pretty frequently and the guys on here are a good mob) If you don't get on with it you can always turn it round for pretty much what you paid if you dont get carried away and spend over the going rate. Then if you find you like the Sandberg and really want one to your own spec just move it on and order a new one....that way you won't lose £500+ selling on a new bass. Seriously, you could get a USA Sub for about £400-£500 and a Sandberg for £800+ secondhand reasonably easily - thats a lot less than just a Berg from the factory. Find out which one you gel with and go from there.
