1. not mine but a great advert.......no chance of picking up a lemon and pleading ignorance here http://www.ebay.com/itm/272591654524
2.
Why do people keep bumping random old threads at the moment? Is the forum sorting threads backwards for some people?!
Just because its old doesn't mean its irrelevant Or so i keep telling myself....
3.
Tried it. Spot on. Bought it.
4. I love my old style PM4...... Sublime neck and very versatile - old school fender in passive mode and modern grunt in active
5. I had a Euro....the 1st fret feels significantly further out to the left than on a Fender style bass. But i only noticed it as an issue (for me) when i bought a Musicman and everything suddenly felt more compact to play - then i sold the Spector because it really began to feel awkward for me. Up till that point it had always just felt like a bit of a reach to play below the first 5 frets. It was a bass i really wanted to love but couldn't quite get there with...great build quality and looks though.
6. Hi from Sheering!
7. I think that limited colours cheaper run was called a MM130 series (or something like that......)
8. Those SR4 models are exactly the same as if you ordered a new rosewood 2 band Stingray in a solid pearl blue, candy red or gloss black colour today from a MM dealer and paid £1500. Its a complete bargain. An immaculate 2 band Stingray should sell tomorrow for +£800 so theres hardly any depreciation compared to a one you would pay £1500 for (and still flip for c.£800) The single difference is that a new one would come with a hard case rather than a gig bag and you cant get a maple board. If you need a hard case just pick up a secondhand Hiscox for £50 - they come up all the time. The SR4 was released a few years ago to hit a lower pricepoint and a few shops seem to have one or two left, mainly in pearl blue or candy red it seems. Just fyi, the 2 band eq sounds substantially different to a 3 band - i've had both at the same time. The 3 band eq has a high pass filter built in which means you dont get quite the grunt/slam that a 2 band has. It also sounds a bit thinner at the higher end. The 2 band sounds warmer and less sterile imho - you can also increase the mids if needed by backing off the bass/treble and turning the volume up (its a common misconception that the 2 band lacks mids)
9. Excuse my ignorance but what makes them (Spitfire) so expensive compared to general ones? Does he have to catch the tortoise or something?
10. Fender Classic Lacquer 50's Precision - the current squeeze Musicman 2 band Stingray - when i need a bit more zing or to clear someones bowels out Sandberg PM4 - lovely but rarely getting a run out these days EBS TD650 or TD660 head thru a couple of Barefaced Big Baby 2 Gen3 cabs (or just one for small gigs). Gallien Krueger RB700ii as a spare spare.... Pedaltrain Metro 16 board Diago Micropower 9 > Sony DWZ B30 wireless unit > Korg Pitchblack Poly tuner > Tech 21 VT Bass DI > Zoom MS60b multi effect > Seymour Duncan Doubleback compressor Pint of soda and blackcurrant or lime......
11.
There's some very strange opinions being aired here. I'm gigging with six different bands this year, two of them being in a dep capacity. I wouldn't have an issue with being cancelled, even at short notice. The band should retain their right to go out with their A Team so to speak. That's what I would expect as a band leader myself. If you start getting arsey as a dep, the phone will stop ringing. That's not a very professional way to tout yourself as a go to dep. A dep's life is very much rough with the smooth. The gigs you do as dep that properly bail bands out of a hole far outweigh any they might let you down on. They are the ones they remember you for. IMHO, suck it up and knock the remaining gig that you have with them out of the park. Enjoy. There will be plenty of other gigs ahead of you I'm sure.
Exactly this.....spot on From the other side, we had a guitar dep sorted for a gig next weekend (booked him months ago). I was pooching about on the gig sites a few days ago and noticed that his regular band had a gig booked on the same night. Raised the alarm with our geetard who called the dep to find out what was going on. "Ah, sorry mate I've double booked, i can't do the dep for you" Great! Panic stations for 24 hrs till we sourced another one. Its the second time he's done it and the last time......
12. Green scourer from the kitchen - oops, wrong thread, that should have been in the roadworn one thats kicking about at the moment :-)
13. have a look at this too.....not mine i might add http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300376-bass-collection-jive-bass/page__hl__jazz__fromsearch__1 or this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300039-fsft-fender-standard-jazz-2000-midnight-blue/page__p__3237609__hl__jazz__fromsearch__1#entry3237609
14. Budget 300/400 quid? You're not far off a used mexican jazz from this site - there's usually a few kicking about. Dont buy new!!!! Get something secondhand from here and if you dont get on with it you can usually flip it without much of a loss (consider it a rental fee if you lose a bit). As you're quite new at the game you may find it takes a few attempts to get something you really settle with
15. My lot (Yellowhouse) have been together for about 17 years - no original members left though, longest serving member is the singer at 13 years.
16.
Slam... that sort of describes it. Heavy Slam, it sounds a lot better than the EVO III I had, the eq seems more accurate and it's loud through a Barefaced 4x10. I have the pre shape button out, so a bass heavy scoop? Then cut the bass and boost the life out of the mids. It works great with fingers but be careful as the eq is very powerful. Oh, the treble knob doesn't do a great deal. I haven't really had chance to try the drive, not interested in the octaver thing but did use the compressor to smooth things out. I'm impressed. I need a bit more time with the eq and drive though... It's not a Trace Elliot and doesn't sound like one, it sounds like an Ashdown and that's what I need to work with. Go try one, you can than me later...
Exactly my experience........ I find that if you add a bit of valve drive in it seems to bring the treble through a bit more - around 9/10 o'clock on the dial does it for me. Thickens up a bit too but adds a bit of 'clang' too. If you want a tighter more clinical sound leave it off completely.
17. i just take a spare in case of disasters. Sometimes it gets a run out in the second set if i feel the sound could be better suited to the venue with a zinger/thuddier/fruitier sound after playing the first set. Mostly it doesn't. Don't faff about between songs unless you absolutely have to - as others have said its a groove killer. Sort your sound out before the gig so you're happy with it and dont expect the audience to notice the finer nuances of your tone - they probably won't give a stuff what you sound like as long as you play in tune and in time.

20. If it doesn't meet the advertised run times you should be able to return it
21. If you read the description on the gear4music site it doesn't mention isolated at all - just separate outputs i wouldn't bother mentioning it to the makers, nothing will come of it - the product will be a generic Chinese product bought in the thousands on price by Warwick. It hits a pricepoint for them and and i doubt they have much design input. If its not floating your boat just send it back if its within the returns window
22. Our guitarist has a Patriot. Its pretty (brown tiger stripe top) but doesn't have the welly that his Les Pauls do and consequently doesn't come out often.
23.
This. I bought the MONO for a change, and it is comfy... but, it slips in no time at all. I'm going back to Neotech.
Thats odd, i have a couple of Monos for years and neither of them slip but I've heard a few people say they do...
