1. Foo Fighters - love the songs, nothing complex to worry about and you can kick back and enjoy the energy of the gigs Rammstein - for the spectacle really Yellowhouse - oh, hang on, i'm in that one already. Just a covers band with a great bunch of guys playing all my favourite songs. Living the dream.......
2. A Musicman USA Sub bass...... Far too good a bass for around £400 Sold it on and shouldn't have......
3.
I messaged him asking for a photo or info on the otherside of the head stock..he has just got back to me with "after further investigation it is a music man bass but it's a sub ray 4 sterling the guy i spoke to got it wrong. So I've relisted it as that sorry for any confusion" new listing here..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bass-guitar-/332126170099?hash=item4d54432bf3:g:tb0AAOSwmLlX~Lns
The new one is still a very vague ad for someone who has nearly 1300 past listings on ebay (including a load of bass stuff in so he obviously knows a bit about them) - but hey, what do i care..... And he's still got the original listing up as well ;-) But this is starting to sound like a vendetta from me and it really isnt so i'm outta here now
4. Nancy Johnsons comment is interesting..... "Relicing, for me, only looks decent on Fender-style basses" Thats true in my opinion but i dont know why??? Other basses just looked knackered when they're a bit beaten up. I wonder what it is that makes it seem ok if it looks like a Fender? I quite like the roadworn look personally - i have a Nate Precision which is mildly "used" looking but feels really nicely worn in and i'm not fussed about taking a lump out of it at a gig. Actually, all my basses have lumps out of them and i purposely avoid new basses because that first ding is so painful. And i've always hankered after a wrecked looking Sandberg.....
5.
It does have the words "Made in Indonesia" pretty easily read in the third picture.
That's only relevant if the potential purchaser knows where Stingrays are made (or not in this case) It just seems like they've purposely avoided showing the obvious things - like the logo on the front of the headstock - hoping someone will make assumptions Oh, and they've called it a a Music Man Stingray (which it isnt).......
6. yep i reported it
7. I get on well with the Mono Betty straps - not too wide but nicely padded....
8. Lovely creative listing for a Sterling Sub here - gives the impression its a USA http://www.ebay.co.u...ScAAOSw4CFYoLWk Totally avoided showing any logo's in the pictures and only really identifiable if you knew what the back of a USA Ray headstock and the bridge looks like
9.
If a punter tries to talk to you mid-song, lick their face.
Love this one
10. I like the Dunlop Super Brights steels, nice feel and they definitely stay zingy longer than most others
11. I saw them many years ago on both the Heaven and Hell and also Mob Rules tour. They were really really good then. On top form and with a great singer/frontman in RJD. I have also seen Ozzy's band on about 4 occasions back in his earlier days (Blizzard, Diary etc) The weak link has always been Ozzy for me. As much as he's a national treasure, he's bloody awful live. Cant sing, forgets stuff, away with the fairies sort of behaviour and not just recently either. Spending all night shuffling, mumbling and pacing up and down telling everyone to "go f***in' crazeeee" is not my idea of an entertaining frontman. He relies on having a fab band behind him. If i'm paying that sort of money i expect a level of quality way beyond what they can offer with him as a frontman. Personally i wouldn't want to remember them as they seem to be now......
12.
Mine's a '90 - v.early 6-bolt with the chrome battery cover (Trans Teal, Maple board). It's 1 5/8" at the nut, but the fretboard feels pretty flat - certainly flatter than a 9 1/2" radius. I've had it from new and for me it's perfect. A jazz just feels too skinny and the offset body positions the neck too far to the left - I have a Fretless and I'm finding 1st fret puts my wrist in the wrong place. A stock Precision is just too chunky for my tastes. They have one in PMT in Nottingham and if I ever get a moment to myself I'll give it a try. The prices seem to have jumped though.
I was lucky, i found mine in a sale at Dawsons for £699 at Christmas. I noticed they had tipped over the £900 mark now - must be the dollar pricing being a bit wobbly causing some increases.
13.
here you go buddy...one just popped up for sale at a well regarded establishment :-) http://bassdirect.co...ate_Mendel.html
that didn't last long......did anyone snag it?
14.
Can someone tell me about the necks profile on these? I'm a Stingray player and I'm looking for a backup/alternative with that kind of neck. Jazz = Too Narrow and offset, Precision / G+L = Too Fat. Is this in the Goldilocks zone I wonder?
I have a 97 Stingray and also had a 2001 Ray - the necks on those two were quite different so i guess it depends what your one is like. The earlier one feels a bit chunkier front to back but is really nicely worn in at the edges so feels cuddly and the newer one felt more like a "normal" Precision width - flatter and shallower than the earlier one but with sharper edges to the neck. I also had a Jazz and a USA Sterling with the skinnier profiles. I found i cramped up with both these so i know i get on better with a wider neck. The Nate is the best of both worlds imho. Its not as deep front to back as the Sterling but not as spindly as the Jazz. I can switch easily between the chunkier Ray to the Nate without really noticing even though the Nate is a bit narrower and the edges feel lovely. I tried a standard MIM when i bought the Nate and massively preferred the feel of the Nate. Might be the different radius contributing to it as well - i'm not sure what the Ray radius is. It could well be what you're looking for....
15.
Do these have a nitro finish?
yep, certainly does and the neck does too
16.
I wonder how Mark knows that the condition is 9.5/10.........
i guess theres a few little dints in the paintwork so he's downgraded it half a point ;-)
17.
thanks a lot !!
here you go buddy...one just popped up for sale at a well regarded establishment :-) http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_Precision_Nate_Mendel.html
18.
I'm certain the majority of these signatures basses are actually better than the American Standards....time will tell re the latest American Professional Series.
I tried an American Standard, a normal Mex and the Nate all in the same shop when i bought it. The Mex was just a bit vanilla - ok but didn't leap out at me. It also felt really 'new' - the edge of the neck felt a bit angular and soulless. It was the one i thought i would end up with before i tried them all because i had played another one a few days earlier and liked it but this one didn't quite have 'it' The USA sounded better but - and its a dumb thing - the bridge saddle grub screws dug in my hand and i couldn't get my head around that versus the extra cost against the Mex - it certainly didn't sound +£500 better to my ears - and i think the other Mex that i played a few days before sounded better anyway. I tried the Nate begrudgingly because i didn't want a red bass but as soon as i picked it up it felt like i had had it for 20 years. The neck is lovely and worn in and the profile is perfect. It has a few little dents that get me nicely over my 'new' phobia. And it was noticeably more resonant unplugged than either of the other two - thats usually a good sign when its cranked up in a band setting. Its light and also easy to play. And it was in the sale so the price was better than reasonable.
19.
Enjoy that bass... it's currently my number one object of lust (basswise). Never knew they had a d-tuner... another plus.
The hipshot is aftermarket - i have one on all my basses...... Its a great bass
20. View Postarthurhenry, on 29 January 2017 - 10:47 PM, said: For a song that goes D, C, G, that's quite clever! I had that thought too.....maybe they changed the key? Hah no that's entirely me being stupid actually. It is of course in D and me having a blonde moment ! 😊
21. She Sells Sanctuary usually - nice and easy but sets the tempo for the night and settles us in. And i go for a wander out front to check levels - i can tweak the PA on open string A's if i need to....
22. No sound comes out and the lights dont work on my one....
23. i reckon around £600 - £700 depending on condition It does look nice - i have a similar PM4 in matte black burst with blocks and a P pickup, they're lovely basses!
24. Absolutely rammed Closed the books in November last year and took the first 2018 booking a couple of weeks ago. We have a couple of good regular bookings standing by for any cancellations as they didn't move quick enough when I contacted them late last summer saying we were getting a bit busy. We usually do about 35/40 per year and currently have 47 for 2017. Its gone bonkers....... And the good thing is we've dropped all the venues that were historically less preferable (for various reasons) and now only have ones we either really want to do or pay exceptionally well. The only problem is that both myself and one guitarist are properly in trouble with the family for ruining all their weekends for the whole year - I'm gonna be hunting for deps on here soon.....
