1.
Bolt-on vs neck-through? In relation to string life and tone, could somebody explain this a little more, please? Same strings (Status Hotwire halfrounds) on my through-neck Yamaha BB1200 generally seem to sound more thuddy, and die sooner than those on my bolt-on Yamaha BB424.
Cant explain the theory but i find that bolt on necks seem a bit snappier sounding and thru necks sound sort of softer....
2. Youve cracked it now - your confidence will grow. Try and make it a regular jam so you dont go cold.........and when you feel brave try an open mic jam at a pub. Well done 😎

Sold my USA MM SUB to Simon. Agreed a deal via PM and kept in touch for a couple of weeks until we could meet up. Real easy transaction, no fuss and a great bloke to boot! i have dibs on the SUB if he decides to move it on though :-)
7.
Totally. Marcus Miller's style is soulful and in a live band situation he kills it but his records sound like Casio keyboard demo tracks. As to the OP's question another gem in the word is Dean Garcia. He doesn't play anything mega-complex but his tone and use of sliding makes an essentially pedestrial bassline sound amazing. 12.
Fingers crossed I'll be having a tinkle on that sunburst one if I don't get pipped to the post. It's only a 30 min drive from me too!!!! I'll buy you a packet of biscuits of your choice if it all works out!
Rather partial to jaffa cakes :-)
13.
Lozz's Fretboard test - Rays start at 7.55 https://drive.google...VBGU1FHR1U/view
Thats actually the difference between a 3eq and a 2eq Ray there - its not the fretboard that sounds different.......
14.
I'm onto that already! Cheers for the heads up.
No worries - theres quite a difference in sound between the 2eq and 3eq models. You can sort of get a 3eq sound out of a 2eq but not the other way around. In one of those links above theres a comment linking to a rosewood versus maple neck sound test that Lozz did a while back - if you look closely you'll see that its actually a 2eq versus 3eq test too and shows the difference in sound off quite well. i think the difference is much less to do with the neck and more to do with the eq. If you're local you're welcome to come and have a tinkle with mine :-)
15. Kettle on, biscuits at the ready and settled down to watch........ This'll get you started - http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/278434-calling-all-mm-players/page__fromsearch__1 And heres a great bass at a great price - http://basschat.co.u...y-burst-w-case/ :-)
16. I would grab a second hand bargain from the classifieds on here This is one is a bargain - (nothing to do with me i might add) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274868-gallien-krueger-1001rb-neo-2x12-combo-1x15-neo-ext-cab-price-drop-l575/
17. Agreed, they are very good imho......
18. Thats lovely and a great price!!!!!!
19. I am usually a stainless guy with the occasional foray into nickel territory. Usually i will kill a set of nickels in a couple of gigs, rarely getting more than a month out of them as i like a bit of zing and usually play pretty sweaty gigs. My usual routine is 3 gigs and then a quick dunk in meths for a couple of hours - that normally gets another 2/3 gigs out of whatever strings i have. My current fave strings are dunlop Super Bright SS or EB Cobalt rounds when i am feeling a bit minted. These NYXL strings are now nearly 2 months in with 6 gigs under their belt and they still sound great - thats unheard of with me and especially nickels!!!!! They sounded great from the start on my Stingray - i thought they were pretty zingy (contrary to what others have said on here) and had a really nice fat sounding mid/low mid and its hardly diminished at all over 2 months. Nice smooth feel and noticeably slippier feeling than SS strings. Really impressed so far but not sure i would pay £35+ for them - thats 2 packs of Super Brights - £22/25 maybe but no more.
20. Thats a lovely SB14 you have there.......
21. In my opinion Sandbergs are very well made and even the "budget" end will outperform most others at the same price points. I've played a few Electras and they are fantastic basses with a good consistency of build and sound - with Fenders, its a bit hit or miss whether you'll get a good one or not. The Electra has a lovely natural wiry zing to the sound but you can dial it out easily if you want old school thud. The necks are awesome too. Well worth a punt and you won't lose much if you decide to flip it later
22. Bass GAS has disappeared over the last 6 months or so since i discovered Stingrays. Partly i suspect because i have tried most on my hit list over the last 5 years since my return to playing and to have been fortunate enough to be able to afford to pick something up if it really appeals and flip it if i find something i prefer later. I have been through 3 Spectors, a Fender Blacktop Jazz, a Yamaha BB and just have a mild hankering for a Warwick but my current Stingrays and a Sandberg seem to have sorted me out to the point of not bothering to really look anymore. Cab GAS is cured with a couple of Barefaced and amps sorted by GK and hopefully my new Ashdown Evo iv head. Life will be boring now...........
23.
I didn't read it properly, I had the Shuttle 6 and not the max.
Pay attention at the back there.........
24.
As the OP is talking about a max series head it has two channels unlike the 9.2 or 6.0.
and that would be why i said "Almost....."
