We rotate Learning to Fly, Times like These and The Pretender - love playing them all. Just really good songs i think - some plain and simple and some with crafty subtle bits. Rope is fun too........

Beta Test & Review D’Addario NYXL Bass Strings
Mudpup replied to D'AddarioUK's topic in Accessories and Misc
i would love to test a set of 4 string 45-100's please! I absolutely kill strings and have tried pretty much everything available in the never ending quest - currently settled on Dunlop Super brights but love EB Cobalts too..... gigging every week and get about 4 gigs to each set before i change them. -
Probably the best Musicman Stingray bass comparison on the net - well done. Played thru decent headphones you can really hear the subtle differences. Really good playing too - not just another hero slapping da bass. Dont suppose you could find an early USA Sub to compare against the Classic to lay one of my personal demons to rest?

Jose is the John Lewis of basschatters! Thoroughly recommended.........

Strap and strap lock for Stingray suggestions?
Mudpup replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Accessories and Misc
I use Mono Betty straps and Schaller straplocks on my Ray (well, all my basses)
Me too........ But i was thinking of trying out some of those Loxx straplocks - they look like a good idea. -

Gigging bassists... how many basses do you own?
Mudpup replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
Weekend warrior rock covers band bassist here - I usually do around 45 x 3 hour gigs per year and play at home every few nights learning new stuff. I only actually need 2 basses - I always take a spare to each gig although i've only ever needed to do an emergency switch once in 5 years when i broke an A string 30 seconds into an opening number. I usually switch basses on the second set just to rotate them a bit. Trouble is, i am up to 4 basses now! I had the luxury of a 3rd one and accumulated a 4th recently in a trade with the intention of moving one on but am struggling to give one up. I have 3 Stingrays and each sounds a little different and plays slightly different so i'm happy picking any of those up. The 1997 2 band eq has the most sublime almost twenty years worn in neck and bowel shaking organic lows. The 2002 3 band eq is really light and has a slimmer neck and is about to develop a John East preamp to give it a bit more booty - feels a bit more delicate than the 2 band. The other is a USA Sub which is an absolute monster - much less refined than the others and with the most amazing in your face gritty/slammy piano tone you could wish for even though its the cheapest of the bunch. This should be the one to lose as there are a few compromises like a painted neck and slab body which make it a bit less comfy to play than the others but i can't bear to give it up! Apparently its wired in series which is what gives it the magic. The 4th bass is an old Sandberg VM4 - lovely slim neck, great precision tone if i need something different and a lovely rock bass - hasn't had a look in since i discovered Stingrays as its a bit subtle compared with the others but i know i would regret it if i sold it....... -
Theres a couple of things on a MusicMan bass that should be industry standard...... 1 - The little wheel truss rod adjuster - simply brilliant idea, no allen key to lose 2 - Tool free pop out battery box In fact, you should be able to make a tool free bass really shouldn't you? The two things above, a velcro attached scratch plate (no 13 screws on a precision to undo), mini thumbwheel intonation screws at the bridge, thumbwheel pick up height screws.....

Its bonkers innit! :-) I was always a plain white/black or natural bass kind of guy but this one has opened a can of worms I keep sitting here looking at it thinking i should buy some white flares and a wide collared shirt Musicman do the best sparkles imho

Just picked this up recently....... A rare Autumn Redburst Stingray. Lovely sparkle under lights too :-)

I would cut my losses now if it was me. Contact Polar, see what they say, maybe use the "not of merchantable quality/fit for purpose" approach with them. If they fix it for free chuck it on Gumtree but if they dont just close the door on it and move on. Cant be using gear you cant trust if youre gigging regularly, its always going to be in the back of your mind. And it sounds like its just a matter of waiting for it to go pop again.........

PF500s have a bad rep for blowing up unfortunately - do a search on here or the USA site...... You may struggle to move it on here

That's on my shortlist - thought it looked ok Cheers Jon -
Looking to invest in a small hazer for pubs and clubs gigs. Not a smoke machine, just a hazer. Anyone have any useful advice on brands/avoids/best buys please?

Recording band rehearsals with a portable recorder
Mudpup replied to Wilco's topic in General Discussion
I used to have a Zoom H2N and got fed up with the interface/buttons. Found it was pretty unintuitive but it may just have been me. Sound quality was ok. Sold it and bought an Olympus LS14 and I think its huge improvement. Particularly with the bass sound. -
Well, that's that sorted then

Sorted here......(its nowt to do with me btw) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274047-yamaha-bb424x-black-l220/page__fromsearch__1 I had one of these and it was my main gigging bass for a year. Slightly chunky neck for my taste but an awesome sounding and well built bass.I spent a lot of time trying to find a jazz or precision and ended up with the Yamaha which was streets ahead imho.
