Another reason they hold their value is the fact that you cant just hop on the web/down to the shop and be playing it a few days later. You're likely to have a 3 month wait for the priviledge of playing one. To some, that means they are happy to pay top money to get their greedies on one quickly. I have a BB2 on order and likely to be delivered soon - it costs £699 new and i bet i could play it for 6 months and then pass it on (if i didnt get on with it) for pretty much the same to someone who doesnt want to wait. The only thing likely to change the second hand pricing is a sudden glut of Gen1 and Gen2 flooding the market as people trade up to a Gen3 and the fact that Alex has put things in place to shorten delivery times. I reckon they'll get a bit cheaper for a while and then increase again.

I needed an extra cab to go with my old Big One and after some discussion with Alex he recommended the new Big Baby 2. The good news is that this was a few months ago and I should be taking delivery of the new cab sometime pretty soon

They are on the Kings Rd, Chelsea not Germany. Recently they were listing a bunch of Richie Sambora's guitars and also Rory Gallaghers old amp. I spoke to the manager and they seem to have some pretty rich contacts so I reckon they're just surfing the vintage wave. Samboras ones came about when they had a vintage Les Paul that Richie wanted - apparently he gets bored just writing cheques for stuff and wanted to swap a load of old stuff he doesn't use for it. That's how they ended up with about 6 of them from his garage. He said they have a load of famous names guitar techs that they just call when something interesting comes along and they pop down with the chequebook - eg Brian Mays bloke and AC30'S - that's where Rorys amp was probably heading too. I personally think most vintage/classic/80's Jap guitars are overpriced/rated anyway. The number of '80's "classic" Hondos, Kays and Columbuses that pop up on ebay (and even here) at stupid prices with someone touting "classic and great player" is laughable - most were rubbish then and are just old rubbish now. The only real exception I can remember being half decent were 80's Westones and Squiers. I had a 66 Precision in the late 80's which I bought for £100 because it had no pickguard and was well 'roadworn'. It played like a tree trunk and sounded rubbish so I sprayed it Ford Gemini Blue with car paint and stuck a mirror guard on it and sold it for £200 a few months later. Its probably worth a few grand now to the right buyer but it was a piece of poo then. Spent the money on a Westone Thunder 1a which was a much better bass. The Kramer 350b is at least £1000 too much - seen them go for £300 - 500 recently. The fact that Nick Lowe played it a bit is neither here nor there imho.

My rigs thru the 80's were (in date order) Carlsboro Stingray 150 head (the black and green one)/Homemade 2x15 cab HH Bass Baby 150 combo Ohm GA140 Combo Laney DP150 head/ Allan Gordon 410 cab Trace Elliot Series 6 AH200/ Homemade 410 and 115 cabs. Also had a Nomad Bassman preamp in front of it. Probably getting into the 90's with that one though. Had a CustomSound Cub 60 combo for practicing then too. All played thru with an Aria RSB Deluxe and Ibanez SR800 bass.

I had one - think it was a 201 or summat. Had the true diversity twin aerials. Used it for years with no problems at all.

[/quote] I have an LH500 and a Spector Euro with the adjustable tonepump - I had to use the active input (all my other basses are fine with the passive input even though they have hot outputs) as the Spector was distorting the input quite severely. I changed to an EMG BQS preamp (which has noticeably less output) and now use the passive input on the amp quite happily. Its the mental output of the Tonepump that's causing your issue. You can adjust it down but it seems to take the grit out when you do so.

I recently tried a bunch of phones out and came out with some Sony MDR-V55 ones. They used to be £90 but various places have been jobbing them out at £40/50 (Currys and Amazon for example) They can take anything i throw at them without getting farty or rattly and i've been very pleased with them. Tried Sennheisers, JVC and a few DJ'y type ones but these were the best by a country mile and seemed much more like £100 phones. Shortish lead though so i use an extender to stand up and play. Had a PA cab go over and a flying punter tipped a whole pint into the guitaists Engl pedalboard a couple of weeks ago. Riot of a pub gig with people flying everywhere and we were floor level. Luckily had 2 mates to stand in front of us to fend them off a bit but it was an interesting evening. Bought a hard case for the spare bass last week though just in case. Wasnt a shithole - just a fun crowd enjoying themselves. Got a real buzz from it (luckily the guitarist didnt :-))
