Your Top 10 Favorite (not best) Bass Players
Mudpup replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
Glenn Hughes Eddie Jackson Stuart Zender Sting (Police era) John Taylor John Giblin Mike Inez Doug Pinnick Nick Beggs Cass Lewis Looking back thru my list, the common theme seems to be that most have a very recognisible and distinctive sound. Pretty varied bunch though. -
Maybe it's some kind of "Transition" model. Might be worth emailing Spector, their customer services are pretty good by all accounts.
Yep email PJ Rubal at Spector - he's really helpful Here's his address below "]

Hartke LH500 Cheap, simple and good. You can pick them up for 350 new and 180 2nd hand if you hunt about.

Played at The Crown in Egham last night. It was a monster night - absolutely rammed with the local loons looking to party! It started getting hairy halfway thru the 1st set and the second set was a blur of moshing, pogoing, bodies flying everywhere, pole dancing girls, beer showers on said girls, toppling PA stacks, blokes falling face first into singer and tipping a pint into his pedal board (nothin blew up, phew!), two mates stood in front of band to keep us playing at great personal risk and it was probably one of the most memorable gigs i have ever played. Still a bit shell shocked in a good way too

This does it for me - completely unusable in most scenarios but an absolute monster for these guys. Its a link to the whole gig but just listen to the 1st 2 songs for an idea (best thru headphones) http://youtu.be/ETRSnoga8dA
I've just looked at a mcgregor bass mate 500w combo, £549 which seems good price but I don't know much about mcgregor amps. Anyone used one or heard anything about them? Cheers all, appreciate all the help.
I wouldn't bother with it. Its an unknown quantity (I remember them in the 80's and they weren't much cop then), you'll struggle to shift it if you don't get on with it and a single combo is never as loud as a couple of cabs and a head - you don't get the spread which will be perceived as volume. Go second hand from the Basschat classifieds - theyre a good bunch of bods in general and you'll get much more for your money than buying new.
Some good tips chaps, ta. Someone recommended this to me; anyone got good or bad things to say about Gallien Krueger? Seems a bit too cheap to be any good?!?
200 watts probably wont cut it live. I have a GK 212MBE cab in the classifieds - buy that and add a Hartke LH500 new or 2nd hand Genz, GK, Hartke 3500 and you should have a decent rig with change left to put towards a second 8 ohm cab later.

I had the same chat Cant wait till August!

Played a blinding wedding in a giant teepee in Margate. Really chilled atmosphere and great hospitality from the bride and groom. Homemade curry, jelly shots, dancey guests and we played really well - The onstage sound was the best i can remember for a long while and i managed to really give my BF Big One some proper welly. It sounded great onstage and out front. Couple of hundred lively guests, nice stage, good light show and we took our big 6k PA for a run out. Got one next Saturday at The Crown in Egham which is usually a brilliant one too so all is good!
Hi, what's you're best price for your cab? Just noticed a thread that said Thomann were knocking these out for £202 brand new
Hi there No longer available at Thomann. Cheapest i could see over here was £359 from Effect Power Supplies. Might haggle a bit for a quick turnround but not budging much as its a great cab at a good price. Cheers -
This is the particular bass... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/207063-spector-euro-4lx-natural-finish-for-trade/page__p__2090017__hl__spector__fromsearch__1#entry2090017
That looks like a pre LX Spector Euro to me. Probably one of of the last before they switched to the newer model. If its a Wimbish, it'll say so on the back of the headstock. The LX has a walnut layer running through the body and also has the adjustable trimpot Tonepump circuit. Theres a link here http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/spector-euro-euro-lx-differences-347619/ have a look at the second post.

NOW SOLD THANKS GUYS Due to joining the Barefaced waiting list, one of my GK 212MBE cabs is up for sale. Bought new last autumn and probably gigged about 30 times. Condition is a 9/10 - there are a few light scuffs on the tolex. Really light and sounds fantastic. Collection from near Stansted Airport. May be able to deliver London, Essex, Herts, Kent by arrangement. Heres a piccy - remember its only one of the cabs for sale. The second one will be sold when my BF arrives around Augustish. Fender Jazz Blacktop vs Modern vs Fender MIM vs Squier
Mudpup replied to Ant_On_Bass's topic in Bass Guitars
I tried a modern player jazz, cv jazz, mim jazz and a blacktop jazz with the same intention. Bought the blacktop - seemed clearer, boll##ier and punchier to me. Neck was nice on all. The tone control is a bit all or nothing and there is a big difference to the sound from each pickup (sort of stingrayish on bridge, precision but bit smoother on neck and scoopy/ twangy with both on full). Heres a good link to a soundclip of a blacktop - possibly the best bass sound i've heard for a long time. https://www.box.com/s/0giiip2y1612vfjh9dix
