Ampeg Portaflex PF500 & PF115 + roqsolid cover - NOW SOLD
Nibody replied to steve's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Can't believe this is still here. 500w of Ampeg tone in a head you can fit in a laptop bag. To clarify on reliability issues, I have used mine for double sets with the covers band (running through a PF115 and PF210) so around 2hrs at a time plus weekly 3hr rehersals since buying it and the ONLY issue I have ever had with mine was the protect circuit kicking in using a poorly wired 8x10 Ampeg cab once in a flea pit rehersal studio (speakers had been removed and replaced and lets just say the impedance wasn't what it said on the tin. -
I recently got rid of a load of spares and bits but found myself still in possesion of a few bits - Squier Body, MightyMite Neck. So I decided to put together another P as a back up to my 2012 US FSR Precision. The Squier body was that odd shade of metallic blue that looks lighter in Pics (when I bought it I was expecting something mid blue-ish but in daylight it almost looked black! Sanded down to the sanding sealer and in a couple of places through it... damn brillo pad type disk that assured me it would remove the paint without damaging the wood!! The original idea was to go for olympic white, Black or Candy apple red - but the wife saw the mocked up beast and said "Why dont you leave it natural". Nosing on the interweb I spotted a few 60's and 70's that were done (or had aged to) a nice amber - which the squier VM precision tried to emulate. My mind started to tick... they actually looked quite tasty. So a quick web hop to Rothcoe and Frosts ebay store was made. Purchased a can of Nitro sanding sealer, a Can of Amber Tinted Nitro Lacquer and a can of Clear Gloss Nitro. I much prefer using Nitrocellulose to standard "car paint" as it sets quicker (have had nightmare mess ups using Acryllic lacquer) and it finishes better. Also picked up some burnishing paste, and from a US retailer ordered a Vintage High Mass bridge (As fitted to the current US standards) and some Ferrules so I could through body string it. After a few coats of sanding sealer, some sanding back, a few coats of Amber tint and the final layers of Gloss, we got to here. Abandoned the idea of using a mirrored guard as the 4-ply Tort I had floating around looked like it bellonged. My spraying is getting better! Still waiting for the bridge so temporarily put the BBOT back on and dropped the neck on. I already had a full CTS/Switchcraft/Sprague loom with US Fender knobs and a set of Wizard thumpers attached, and a "F" logu neckplate. The neck is lovelly - was already vintage tinted in Nitro with a 60's style logo applied when I got it and it fitted perfectly. Partially finished result bellow. I say unfinished, as I'm still waiting for the modern High Mass bridge/ferrules, it needs burnishing a bit more and I may replace the pickguard with an identical one as this one had been cut away for one of my Japcraps to allow access to the Wheel of Fortune truss rod adjuster. I do have to say I am pleased with how its turned out - and it sounds great too - punchier than a friday night in Glasgow with a nice deep undertone and lots of resonance. Pictures are a bit rubbish as they were taken with my ageing iPhone 3GS

Point 1. I like Fender P's - I have tried others, still like the P it just feels right and sounds right. Point 2 I've played in covers bands and originals - all with Ps. I fail to see why it makes anyone less of a musician because they play in a covers band or their bass doesnt have 5+ Strings or is not a fender P. How flipping arrogant. I personaly know there are better and worse players than me - gives me something to aspire to and people to encourage. Point 3 This is all begining to sound like something from TalkBass or the Rickenbacker forums - "my bass is better than your bass" What the hell is happening to this forum? We are all bass players. Peace Out

Rescued a set of Jazz pickups from Russ's grasp - my John Paul Jones inspired Jazz now has a voice and is singing beautifully. My second dealing with Russ and once again no issues and great communication. Cheers matey!
yeah, tis an Indie A**** R***** clone.
It is a beautiful black bass just up the road from me too. Pity I can't justify it.
Yep, I think we could take an educated guess at what the rest of it looks like. It didn't work though, as when he relisted it, it still got pulled...
I think he must of showed a little too much "leg" in the following Ad. That or ebay are so scared of Mr hall they are pulling anything that may have stood next to a Ric in a showroom.. lol

Or a Masterclass in attempting to avoid angry Americans getting ebay to remove your ad?

Well Trev from Circle Studios was kind enough to invite me to his opening party.after the refurbishment. Met Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, and a few other luminaries! Big deal for a small timer like me. Pity it wasn't Steve Harris but hey,,! Trev is a true gent, and the studio is fantastic - better than the pics. And I was lucky enough to listen to some of Trev's work - he is rather good with the desk to say the least. If you're in a pro band that is looking for a pro studio Trev is definitely your man.

Says he with a wry smile... looking forward to saturday when I'll be doing something you dont do very often... hopefully pictures Sunday... leaves you all in suspence.. Peace!

I popped in to see Trev last weekend, and the place is like the Tardis. Only more exiting!

Which would it be? I was thinking about this whilst drifting through Youtube when the wife was out at a friends. Not for reasons of virtuosity or anything else, just because you'd like to. Myself I was thinking somewhere between The Wildhearts , Sprigsteens East Street Band and The Gaslight Anthem. Not particularly based on my ability or the ability of the bass players or the amount of money they make/dont make. They are just three bands that when i hear songs by them I think "I want to be on stage playing that song, and the band looks a blast".

Considering it's designed more as a guitar amp sim than bass orientated you can get some nice sounds out of the Amplion Free
-
I didnt like the bass sounds on Guitar Rig. Amplion? I like my Aplitube SVX

Due to the recent influx of a very nice USA P from these very pages I have decided to move this one on. Its a 1996 Mexican made "Traditional" P bass (The ones with the black Fender logo) bought from a fellow basschatter a while back. Black body, rosewood F/B. There is a bit of buckle rash and the odd chip as would be expected from a bass thats 17 odd years old.The nut is quite narrow (Almost Jazz Like). The bass will come with a virtualy brand new Spider Hardcase (bought from Flightcase Wharehouse a month or so back and hasn't left the house since). Fitted with B/W/B Pickguard, and Gotoh 201 High Mass Bridge. Also fitted genuine Fender "F" Neckplate as shown in the pictures.
