FT / FS - Epiphone Thunderbird Pro & Yamaha BB414
Nibody replied to aLxbass's topic in Basses For Sale
I'm toying with the idea of offering my VM Jazz against that Tbird. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/167132-vm-70s77-jazz-hybrid-for-stevied/page__fromsearch__1 Has the 70's VM body and the 77 VM neck (identical apart from has Pearl inlays and white binding) following a neck swap with StevieD - looks better without the black blocks methinks. Similair value - VM Jazz's retail for around £270 new. -
You could also put ebay, gumtree and the likes into the swear filter, meaning any such links offsite in the FS forum don't work and, in doing so, are pointless.
But then that would kill the ebay links forum?
I used to be a huge UFO/MSG fan back in the day. I still love listening to the old albums but i must admit to not following the various bands/member's since the late 90's. I do have a live at the BBC (IIR)recording and there are so many mistakes (for an establish pro band) that i sort of went off them live. i didnt realise all this was going on so thanks for posting the video clip, and to Kev for the heads up about the live dates.

The guy playing bass with X-UFO in the original post isn't ex UFO at all but did play with Michael Shenker for several years. I've no idea who the bass player will be in the genuine UFO's tour next month, it seems unclear from the official website. I'd be happy with the guy who stood in for the last tour (promoting 'The Visitor') but can't recall his name. I got to hear the latest album 'Seven Deadly' last night, not bad but far from a classic. If they pick the best 2 or 3 songs from it and fill the rest of the set with classics and fan faves then it'll be a decent gig. On the basis of the youtube clips I wouldn't pay to go see X-UFO I'm afraid.
So, shall wqe start the list of people willing to throw their hat in the ring.. lol

I'm considering going to see them in Wolverhampton next month. Would be nice for a healthy Pete to play but the realist in me knows this isn't going to happen. Last but one of my main "heroes" still breathing with Lynott and the Ox gone. Thank god for JPJ!

As a mate of mine wqhent to watch X-UFO at the weekend thought I'd look them up on YouTube. Found a video of them from this year with Pete Way guesting. I know he's had a bit of a battle with his demons but this was hard to watch as a fan of UFO and Pete. Applied for a bass players position via "starnow". Due to my family commitments this would be of no use to me as it involves a fair bit of work on the continent, though the contact is in the UK it seems primarily a Belgian band:
Thanks for the reply. Go to : www.youtube.com/steelyardblues Then Listen and view the videos, there's quite a variety of material here. The band are primarily blues rock but we also play Classic rock l and some original work. We play mainly in mainland Europe and a few times in the UK. So if you like the material and like to travel, reply to the same email address ( bluesrecruiters"at"gmail.com) and we will arrange a audition ,send you a few mp3s to learn and supply you with more info. Cheers Steelyard ps - if you want to travel & play lots of different venues in different countries this is a good band to be with. If you want to earn a fortune, a blues band should not be your first choice.
If it helps out any of our more footloose community, I'd be chuffed.
God knows what the rules are in America . But I know for talk sake my house which is Northern Ireland Housing Executive. If I was to abandon the house, stop paying rent and basically disappear without notice. When they reclaim it everything has to go into storage for so long, they look after the local garages (I think council does it on your side of the water). There is a shortage of garages because thats where they store the stuff taken out of abandoned houses. BUT If I was to hand over the keys and give up the house anything I leave gets thrashed. Depending on what work crew does it they will sometimes leave things like carpets and blinds. Others will rip up brand new fittings and bin it. Some will leave the back door open if you ask nicely . For instance in this house it had a decent bathroom sink and fitted shower. The back door got left open and the stuff just happened to go missing before the Mrs got the keys. Across the road has changed hands a few times recently. The first time New wooden floors got ripped up the second time all the new carpets and blinds were left for the next tenant. Once the keys are handed over it's fair game and the NIHE doesn't really care what happens. By the rule book if a 63 pink Jazz was left behind it should be destroyed . Same applies in the event of someones death. The family have so long to empty the place and hand the keys in, once thats done anything left gets skipped. Once the keys are handed over thats it you can't come back and say I left a an all original '51 P bass signed by Leo in there I want compensated. You'll just get told it was destroyed and dumped. So going on the knowledge of how it works with our house I don't see it as inconceivable the same could apply elsewhere in the world.
from personal experience working for a local authority in housing, if we had a tenant who "fled" the contents of the house/flat would be put into storage and held for three years. Efforts would be made to contact the former tennant or relatives where they would be told they could claim the Items back once they had cleared any outstanding arrears against the property. If this didn't happen within 3 years, the contents would be disposed of and set against any arrears. Dont know how this works in the US of A -
Didnt seem to be a lot of manouver for adjusting the Pup height on the T Bird. Had the action fairly low anyway. Pity because I loved the sound. Maybe when finances are better I'll get another Bird.
Good news and bad news today. On the good news first... the steelwork is done for all of the productions rooms: The bad news? Somewhere between a communication error and a complete clusterfvck something went badly wrong. When I went down today the floors were as you see them above but there was a large quantity of regufoam left. It soon became evident that the benches have not been implemented properly. In the circumstances, the metalwork all needs to be lifted up again. In the circumstances it looks unlikely at this point that we'll be pouring concrete on Monday as per the original plan... Keep watching for the next episode of... soap.
If it turns out as good as the other rooms, it has to be worth the hassle.

Maybe it was my perception. I know when running through the my amp, and also Amp sims (Guitar Rig 4 and Amplitube 3) it seemed to have less output than my precisions and my Jazz which was the opposite of what I expected the case to be (had the T Bird first). I'm quite regretting letting it go now as a band has come up that covers a few UFO tracks! They are nice bass guitars (Neck Dive and difficulties getting a bag/case to fit them aside).
-
I'd go along with all of this, having owned one from new since around 2007 and passed it on to another Basschatter recently. The only issue I found is the Pickups always seemed VERY quiet, nowhere near the output of my Precisions or Jazz. Found I had to crank the gain up a few notches to get a comparable "sound level". Maybe it was just mine? I do regrett selling it on, but I'm glad it's going to get used.

I have 2 P's with Wizzards in, would recomend the Trads over the thumpers, or email and get them to custom wind a set for what you want?

I've always fancied picking up the Mandolin, partly inspired by my mums folk days, partly by Led Zeppelin. Just come into possesion of a Stagg mandolin. Have to say I'm finding it easier to pick up than the Banjo though I am perservering with that. Does anyone else here play Mandolin, and recomend any good sites for tabs?

I'd like to change the colour of my bass - help / advice please
Nibody replied to chrisdaman's topic in Bass Guitars
1. Relatively easy on a P Copy. You need to remove the strings (obviously!!)neck, bridge, pickups and scratchplate. Depending on the routing you may have to de-solder the pickups from the potentiometers - probably not though. 2. Results are proportional to the amount of work put in and time. I did a cheap body and it worked quite well though there were lesons I learned afterwards such as using a propper grain sealer. Tried doing one Matt black a few years ago and it came out rubbish 3. Ive no idea -
Cool. Swing by some time. I've always got a cold one in the fridge. It's gonna be a bit messy for the next 8 -10 weeks but any time after that it good!
I will definately take you up on that, even if just to stand and drool over the Ampeg's!
