2.
Howdy neighbour! I live in Stockwell and go shopping in Brixton all the time. I really like it and it doesn't seem any more dangerous than the places I lived in London before. What happens to you was (thankfully) just a warnin. We should always be aware of the scumbag thieves all the time. I carry a baseball bat in my boot, just in case they try to get cute when I'm unloading... Welcome to Basschat!
As an American Secretary of State said about dealing with the USSR.. "Speak softly, and carry a Big Stick".
3. Damn, bridge, you sure is ugly...
4. ooh fellow Sandyback.. Welcome mate
5.
Restoration complete 1978 refinish, non original bridge and tuners. Hugely weighty ash body and massive tone
Liking that Neck, it looks lived-in.
6. Hmm. A hastily hashed together Black Sabbath covers band that lasted one gig - "Block Sadbath".. First "Propper" gig was with ablues band at a pub - guitarist took us down in his van, then buggered off in the van with the money at the end. Got told off by the landlord as the bass amp was making the glasses vibrate,,lol. First "originals" gig was depping in a band called "Prey Silence" at Stratford Civic Hall to a capacity crowd (was paid for by the local council for "the kids") doing Dream Theatre/Bon Jovi type stuff.
7.
Dare I mention Good by Mr Chips (The original of course) A
Yep, seen that one a few times. Think my all time favourite has to be "Its a Wonderful Life". Has a lot of personal meaning to me, and alongside David Niven, Jimmy Stewart was one of my favourite actors.
8.
Great band, great front man great loss. I had his black fender in my house for about a week must dig out the photos !! I got to know his mum after he died and she used to get up with our band wand sing whiskey in the jar. Great tune dude
That my friend is awesome! Closest I get is I'm friends with Jim Fitzpatrick on facebook, and the guitarist in my first ever band looked like Scott Gorham.
9. still a bloody good film either way, nowt like a good classic weepie!
10.
Cant help with the music but A matter of life and death is my all time favourite film ever!! Call me an old softy It was made as a propaganda tool to get American sympathy before they jouined the war but still its an amazing feat of cinematography and the love story is sublime. Oh and yep the music is very haunting particularly the 'going up the stairway to heaven' piano bit. Which I think your refering to. And finally..... I do have a bit of a soft spot for Kathleen Byron: http://en.wikipedia..../Kathleen_Byron Just sayin A
One of my favourites too. But wasn't it released in 1946, 4 years after the yanks had joined in and a year after the war had ended?
11.
Its a great tune. Phil was such a fabulous bass player!!
And one hell of a frontman! They were a very underated band. He had the image, the bass skills and the personality.
12. I'd imagine that needs to go to a luthier and have some rosewood grafted on before you could drop a nut on it - no idea what that would cost. Tempting, but I found a seller on ebay that does non licenced Fender necks that are only a tenner more than that and are a nice quality. I suppose if you were a Luthier yourself it would be a good buy - cant complain for the price (when you consider what AllParts charge and what you get stung in customs fees if you buy from Mightymite or Warmoth direct) just a bit too much work for me.
13.
I've played guitar in bands since 1959 - I'm an OK rhythm guitarist but hopeless at the blues-type improv people seem to want these days. I've been playing bass for about 7 years. One of my bands(!) is a Country Rock trio (2 guitars & bass - no drums) with a couple of young lads from Hinkley - not too far from Tamworth, I think(?). G. G.
Yes, we're just down the A5 past Nuneaton and Atherstone. I like a bit of country rock when I'm not listening to the heavier stuff - Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, to the Aussie/NZ version (Crowded House/Mutton Birds). Not suprising I suppose as my folks were "Folkies" - grew up on Tom Paxton/Tim Buckley/Donovan/The Band et al.
14. Good stuff. More than slightly jealous as I can string together about 5 chords on guitar with no hope of any form of coherent lead guitar playing, and thats the limit (but then bass has always been my thing).
15. There was a tab book for "Dedication" which contained a lot of the Lizzy hits - Have a copy 2 ft away from me.
16.
Would be interesting to know why you think the stated delivery fee (in fact £4.99) is unsupportable? Delivery service simply states "Other Courier", but assuming seller is requiring a signature on receipt then the fee isn't unrealistic. Human nature being what is is, if the seller simply dropped any items sold in an envelop and in the standard Royal Mail service, sure he'd be inundated with "undelivered package" refund claims.
I stand corrected - £4.99. Having sent several things recorded delivery myself, I am fairly certain that it would not cost £5 all bar a penny to post a set of bass strings recorded, let alone a set of guitar strings. I have recieved several items that have been considerably larger and heavier (Necks, Tuners etc) that have been posted recorded and have cost aproximately the same or slightly less (£5.98 in the case of the neck) to post. However it is down to personal choice if someone is willing to hope the auction end price plus postage makes them a good buy. I reserve the right to raise an eyebrow.
17. £4 to post? Are they made of lead?
18. Ok one thing I have noticed. Weren't the 70's P's Truss rod at the heel, and the area where you would find one on, say, a Squier, filled in with what looks like Rosewood? That doesnt have a truss rod slot on the headstock, and if it is filled it certainly isnt with Rosewood?I love my P's but I'm no expert, just going by what I've seen. Rather like THIS one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1979-Fender-Precision-Bass-electric-P-Bass-vintage-CBS-NATURAL-Rosewood-/380378560571?pt=Guitar&hash=item589054383b
19. Were those pictures taken using a Potatoe? Difficult to make out the serial etc.
20. [sup]I had an active Washburn XS-4 and that used to eat batteries even when unplugged. I retro fitted a small toggle switch to cut the battery feed when it wasnt in use. It had a pre-amp built in as standard had a pull/push on the pick-up blend pot that allowed it to run as passive[/sup]
21. When I sat and thought about this, its harder than it initialy appears. The five who inspired me to pick up a bass: John Entwistle John Paul Jones Duck Dunn Phil Lynott Bruce Foxton The Five who most influenced my "Style" Peter Hook Geezer Butler J. J. Burnel Steve Harris Pete Way
22. Epi T-Bird - Neck drop, moved buttons and everything short of straping a brick to the bridge end.., and compared to the Wizards in my two P's and the DD's in the VM Jazz the pickups sound weaker than I was expecting.. Washburn XS4 - Had to install a seperate switch to cut the battery suply to the Active electronics, because it used to eat 9v batteries when not being used.
23. Both my builds I put Wizard's in - 1. They are reasonably priced (£50 for a set of bespoke Scatterwound Pickups!!) 2. The serviceis great. Bought a set of Wizard Trads for the first - atypical Precision sound The next one I stuck a set of "Thumpers" in - have a nice "dark" overtone to them (don't know how else to describe them). I know a few of the guys on here have used Wizards and I havent heard a bad thing said about them. Rather have these than fork out extra cash for a set of SD's
24. Try a little harder - Thin Lizzy B-side. And I've re-learnt a load of stuff I forgot how to play in my 10 year break! Also managed the intro/ first part of the verse to "Runaway" by Jamiriqui
25.
Those are nice! I'll have to try get a pic up of my Black and white P's Edit: Here they are
Nearly put a B/W/B Pickguard on my Black one. But decided to go for the Phil Lynott look. I love Maple fretboards - those are two nice looking P's.
