1.
MB1. If i catch my Ampeg doing anything with an Aguilar.... it will be severely repremanded!
Why? Best sound I've ever had was a 70's SVT through my Aguilar GS412 cab.
2. Could you let me know if the Fender type ones become available again please?
3.
John Wetton Greg Lake
Yes yes yes.
4. Excellent. Have often wondered about putting a MM pickup in a P. Can't see the second pic though unfortunately.
5. Would maybe be interested in the V4B if you would split. Did you buy it off here originally?
6. Bah, I need HUMBUCKERS! The only other things that are tempting me are a Gibson RD Artist and a G&L L2000 (but not nearly as much). Not a big fan of new basses. Like them to have some mojo. Oh yea, played a limited edition Sandberg when I was in Germany last week which had a lacquered birseye maple neck and two humbuckers that was gorgeous. Still felt too new though. Also it was white which I don't like at all.
7.
I wouldn't buy it, but that's because it barely looks any different to a sterling/stringray which could be had in the market of the moment for £600 without any broken parts!
Such a different beast to play though and it sounds totally different. I have totally fallen in love with worn pre EB lacquered necks. I really think they're worlds apart from modern Sterlings or Stingrays, even the double humbucker models.
8. Ta, yea was looking at that that a few minutes ago. Seems like a respectable chap, not too keen on some of his custom guitars though.
9.
my 1979 sabre only cost me £550 i'd haggle VERY hard
Blimey. Thats a bit of a bargain. Am absolutely gonna haggle and pay cash, afterall he even said he was negotiable and sounded a thoroughly reasonable fellow. I was going to offer 1k until I found out about the truss rod repair, now I'm thinking of starting at £800. Does this sound sensible? I think he said the name of the luthier was Martin Dixon. Anyone heard of him?
10. Thanks for the feedback guys. He gave me full details of the luthier who did the work (can't remember his name off hand but I intend to check him out). I fully intend to haggle the price down. The seller was very freindly and said encouraged me coming to see it in person as it's a long way away and offered to hold it for me in the mean time. He can also trace the history back to the original owner so will check that out too. Great pic up there, thats exactly like the one I'm looking at.
11. Ok, so my 21st birthday is coming up and I'm intending on spending all my bonds, savings and birthday/christmas presents on my dream bass. It's a pre Ernie Ball Musicman Sabre. I have found one in a guitar shop and it's exactly what I want. It's beautifully worn and mojo'd and is really really stunning. Only thing is the truss rod has been broken. It's been professionally repaired and seems totally fine but it's a bit of a niggling worry. It would be a massive investment and the biggest amount of money I've ever spent. I am buying it as a player not a collector so does it really matter? The asking price is £1150 but the seller says it is negotiable. It may well work in my favour as I can get it cheaper but will it drastically affect its value in the future? I don't think it really bothers me to be honest if i can get it at a good price and it still plays and functions well but am just curious what others think.
12.
Damn I would, but Aus to UK.....Sheeeesh. Good luck with the sale! I want this amp so bad.
ME TOO!!
13. Hehe, yea, changed a few things round since then. Well, lots actually. :-) Your sound was massive too. Iàm a big fan of bass 4x12's and those Marshalls are pretty damn good. Definately worth checking the GS412 above though. Good price.
14. Hehe, played with you guys at The Brickyard, I play with Rose Kemp. Hope that tour next year comes off. Funny if we ended up with identical rigs on tour. I managed to pick up my GS412 on here for £600 and was so chuffed. They really suit each other. I know exactly what you mean about the 810's being so common, they do sound awesome with an SVT though.
15. You dont play in Manatees do you? Only, I played a show ealier in the year with that band and the bassist was using a Grabber and Marshall DBS412. I have the 1200s too and I run it with an Aguilar GS412. Best sound I ever had, love it to bits and have never managed to get it to make any farting sounds and I play loud with loadsa nasty fx too. 'Only' gets 800w out of it at 4ohms but I always have loads and loads of headroom, I personally prefer it to Ampeg 810's. The Bergantinos are surely worth considering too as many already said. There was someone selling a Berg 215 on Talkbass in Europe very recently actually.
16. If the 'Ray is still there when I get back from tour in two weeks I may have to take that off your hands. The only time I will be able to afford it is right after a tour, so fingers crossed.
17. Don't do what I did when I was a foolish teen and scrub them off with a scouring pad. Can still see the marks years on.
18. Well, sounds like you want something with a hyper-cardiod pickup pattern as opposed to the standard cardiod of the SM58. From personal experience (as well as common sense) I'd suggest the Sure Beta 58. Logical upgrade from the SM58 if you were otherwise happy with it. It sounds smoother and cleaner to my earsthan the SM58 with a more refined top end as well as having the tighter pickup pattern. Lovely mics.
19. Can't believe that 'Ray is still there! Amazing bargain, sooo wish I wasn't broke. Looks lovely.
20. Yea, the FZ-2 is awesome. The MXR Blowtorch may be worth a look too if the sound samples I've heard are anything to go by.
21. Fantastic. Just did it and it works perfectly. Thankyou so much. Can't believe how easy that was.
22. Awesome. No, I wasn't grounding the third taper. Will try that now. Thanks!
23. Hi, I have built a small bypass looper for an fx unit that isn't designed to work with guitar/bass. The unit has a massive volume boost so I wired in a potentiometer on the return path in the loop. However, the pot I used doesn't make it quiet enough. I'd like it to be able to go from nothing to lots if thats possible. The one I tried was a 470k one. Would maybe a much higher one do? Like 1000 or something? Thanks, Joe
24. Dunno, cheddatom just recomended the DJ22. May be worth a try. Half the fun is having different fx on each amp.
