  1. It isn't that Apple gear is necessarily better at audio, it's just easier to make an app for iOS. There are only a handful of devices with similar hardware you need to support and Apple do everything they can to make it work nicely between their products to enhance the user experience and lock people into their ecosystem. When developing for Android, there are how many different manufacturers with how many different models with different hardware combinations? Plus custom stuff put on top of the android base OS. I think Google have tried to make it easier over the years, but it is generally harder. Also, Apple users are more likely to pay for an app. That might mean it's easier to attract better talent to make them because there's more incentive to work in that field.
  2. Other than ones I was part of from the get go, I joined all of my bands by answering or posting ads on Gumtree. I found it to be much better than the other solutions. Plus it's free. My location might help though. There is always something going on in Bristol!
  3. When I got my GX-100, I similarly set up patches that sounded great in isolation through headphones but turned to mush with the band. Shortly after, we happened to have a couple of practices called off where it was too late to cancel the room, so I spent some time dialing it in with my rig at gig volume. That really helped. I ended up with a LOT more high end content in my signal than I had expected, but it really works in context. If you can, I'd really recommend taking that approach while also keeping in mind the available sonic space.
  4. We're trying to get an EP together before we get gigs. I would much prefer to try to get gigs with a room recording for now while we work on the EP.
  5. Could also just take out the preamp, wire in a tone control and put in two "producer knobs" that aren't connected to anything?
  6. Forgot to say, they don't have it listed, but if you email, they'll be able to invoice you for it through Paypal.
  7. I bought a kit from FretNation in the USA to change my volume to a stacked Volume/Tone control. Works in active or passive mode. It was just a couple of wires to solder and I had to enlarge the hole a bit to get the stacked pot in, but I'm really happy with the result. In hindsight, I could have just bought a stacked pot, but I knew that it would come with the matching knobs, so went this route.

How are they in use? They look like they'd be hard to get an adequate grip on.
  9. I've got a 201B on my Squier Jag and it's started to get a bit of tail lift after being on there for about 10 years. I've not heard anyone else have that issue, so it might just be a one off.
  10. So I've picked an example flight from British airways. The seat for the cello would have been £703. The additional fees didn't apply.
  11. I can't help with the case decision, but I've flown to Japan with a cello in a Hiscox case with a booked seat. The guitarist and I flew direct with Virgin and most of the gear, while the rest took a cheaper flight with a change. It worked really well. They all knew about it at the gate and on the plane. They even had a seatbelt extender ready to go round it as soon as I sat down. I only felt a bit bad for the person sat in front of it as they couldn't recline their seat! I also remember I had to call up to make the booking as you don't (didn't?) pay tax for it. There wasn't an option to do it online, but that was 2010. Things may have moved on.
  12. Ah, that's barely misaligned though. I'd wager that's a worn router template on the pickup. Just adds to the vintage vibe, like the router lump on a Tele's neck pocket 😜
  13. The bridge pickup isn't crooked, the tune-o-matic bridge is intentionally angled so it can be intonated. It's a feature not an error. I think the new Gordon Smith looks great though! I'd love to try one of those out!
  14. I like the strict local rules. I'll put on my bass case, get on a scooter (following all rules of the road!) over to PMT and grab a Squier Affinity PJ and a 5 string set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys where I throw away the G to take me down to drop C.
  15. Looks like they've put a Mustang bridge on it, so I'd say it'll be the same. You'll probably need to wait for the actual release date to get the fretboard radius though.
  16. I played the Queen Vic in Stroud when I was 15. It was a band with my brother on guitar and vocals and his mate on drums and we were Team Catharsis. There were some originals and covers in the set. Went down reasonably well and afterwards one of the guys sat at the bar complimented my playing on Walk on the Wild Side, which was nice!
  17. So many... EB0 Rickenbacker 4001 Sandberg of some description Les Paul bass Thunderbird D-Roc Jack Casady Steinberger of some sort There will be more that I can't think of right now too. I've had a relatively sheltered bass life so far. I also don't like playing in a shop. I feel like I don't have the chops, even though I've never been turned down for a band I auditioned for. Plus I'm too awkward to flag down a salesperson most of the time!
  18. I ordered some strings for my Dingwall last Wednesday. Got the receipt about an hour later. They didn't arrive till this Monday, but I think I'm chalking that up to Royal Mail. I have had emails from them go to spam when I ordered some pickups and a separate time when I ordered some hipshot tuners that weren't in stock. @ead - it would be worth double checking your spam folder.
  19. A friend who works in the industry said after COVID, Fender got better returns putting the $100,000 NAMM attendance fee into direct marketing to end users. NAMM is for the guitar shops to see new stuff and buy stock. Fender doesn't really need that sort of marketing. Their dealers will buy whatever as they have to maintain a certain stock level to remain a Fender dealer.
  20. Either put it towards a D-Roc or a new laptop. My MacBook Pro is 10 years old now, which doesn't make the initial £1000 cost seem that bad. Still runs well with the solid state drive I put in years ago and I've had to replace the data cable once. It also currently sees a much lighter workload than when I first got it, but an upgrade is probably due at some point!
  21. I'm a fanned fret fan! If you want to build something go for it! There are calculators you can use to create a template. then you just print it out, stick it to your fretboard, cut the slots and then you sand it off when radiusing the fretboard. https://fretboard-template.netlify.app/
  22. I reckon these should do. They also state a data transfer rate, which I find encouraging! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Braided-Tangle-Free-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B01DEMTOQ6/ref=sr_1_5
