Alot of people seem to have trouble fitting double bass bridges or they seem to get charged alot unless your good at diy, why bother a freind of mine is a guitar restorer and repairs double basses, he will fit a new bridge to your string height for £50.00 THOMPSON GUITARS AT WIGAN TEL RICHARD ON 01942 820532, this is a workshop not a guitar shop he straightens guitar necks on old grestches does refretting and restoration and rewires, hes been doing this for over 40 yrs nice guy and dosnt rip people off ., The amount of double basses with snapped necks hes repaired is uncountable over the years very old fashioned service with a smile so keep his no to hand and please mention bob from black cat trio gave you his tel no

Fitting a new Double bass bridge
rockabillybob1 replied to ceilidhswinger's topic in EUB and Double Bass
if you have never done one dont do it get a luitier to do it or practise on a bridge that dosnt matter, get a sheet of sandpaper and tape it to the belly of the bass so grit faces up and work the bridge back and forth to get the feet of bridge the right shape very time consuming you can buy a tool of ebay that holds the bridge solid whilst you do it, or do it free hand the feet of the bridge have to be perfectly shaped to the belly of bass with no gaps, or the bridge will rock about and give a bad sound if your anywere near wigan i use a guitar repairer and he does them fitted to your string height for 50 pounds and he does them perfect, so even i dont do my own at that price he is called thompson guitars tel 01942 820532 if that helps -

cheap double bass, amplifying advice
rockabillybob1 replied to Fenderjazz1's topic in EUB and Double Bass
get a k&k bassmax pickup of ebay 72 quid from states wow what a good sound and dont feed back -
WOW WHAT AN AMP i bought one second hand of hear and this is a serious combo packed with goodies ,first its 500w run at 4 ohm to get the max out of it . The bass sound is deep and awsome and can be shaped anyway you want and then saved to a preset i then used my second double bass got the sound saved it and bingo swap between the two hardley any setting up on a gig . There is a built in tuner not the best in the world it has valve sound if you want it . check out the spec , ive been using a 4x10 pro bass cab and a 700w head and this beats it into the ground ,if you play double bass and want a combo that runs at 500 loud watts then try one out you wont be sorry , i use a k&k bassmax pickup the one without the slap and they are so matched for clarity and punch and the best bit is its lighter than a 4x10 cab check it out bg 500 2x10

tc electronics bg500 combo review i play double bass and use a 4x10 and a 700w head and the bg500 2x10 kicks its arse it has serious power and tone shaping i can save my dialed in settings for one double bass, then put my second double bass and save the settings and just swap basses with the touch of a button ,i have always used amps with graphics but this just beats the graphic handsdown , the built in tuner isnt the best tuner ive ever used ,this is a serious bass combo i cannot get the vol past 4 without a serious ear bashing, the bass bottom end is as good as any 4x10 bass cab what an amp for the money i would advise anyone playing double bass to try one of these amps, i use a k&k bass max pickup the one without the slap pickup and it is totally matched to the amp awsome sound

next time you have a bath put the bass in with you and play it underwater that will damp it down , id advise weedwacker strings then they dont rust !
-
if the sound post falls over get it out of bass get a peice of stiff wire drill a tiny hole in centre of soundpost and a bit of jiggling you will get it back in place look at the position before you start
