Or, you could just buy one. Come on full pelt, all guns blazing and carry on like that until the end of the set. Pause briefly only to tell the audience what the band is called and that they can buy merch off us after the gig.
Dep? That's unlikely, but doesn't necessarily mean we won't use another guitarist, or flute player,or theraminist; their instructions would normally be something along the lines of "this one's funky, in Eb (as the singer plays an Eb sax) apart from the bits that are in F#, we'll try and remember to give you a nod, but just keep it that bit crazed, and you can wear this codpiece and platform boots". But they'd only be a 1-2 song guest. Last gig we were all clergy, the guitarist who'll be missing is the foreground bishop in the cowboy hat... And there's no covers, so the audience won't know what's coming next! Only problem with doing more programming is that it restricts us; at present we've got 3 songs with backing. In the past we'd jam a song for 30-40 minutes if the crowd were enjoying it. 4-5 hour gigs were the norm back in the 80s!
Given all that info I wouldn't worry. Do the gig without him. Don't bother adding anything to the programming if the backing is only used on some of the songs. The only people who might notice there's someone missing will be his friends.

I think it depends on the band and their audience's expectations. Covers bands unless the missing musician is a well-know name can easily get away with a suitable dep. Originals bands need to think a bit more carefully, especially if they have an image that needs to be maintained. IME deps can be a bit funny about being told how they need to look even it's something fairly straight-forward like "wear black, no visible brand or band logos and no trainers". However, if the band is already using programmed backing then it shouldn't be too difficult to add the missing guitarist's parts to it. I'd probably go this route rather than get a dep. Besides you've got plenty of time between now and the gig to try it out and make sure that the rest of the band are happy with the solution.

Very obviously "SF Sorrow" by The Pretty Things, but you could also include their subsequent album "Parachute" which had an Urban side and a Pastoral side. More modern concept albums should include the first two offerings from Mansun - "Attack Of The Grey Lantern" and "Six".
How does the importing thing work from the US? there must be VAT and import taxes etc? ... even with all that on top though this still looks like a good deal!
Expect to pay an additional 25% on top of the cost of the bass plus shipping.

CDs, Vinyl or downloads of some new music that takes your fancy. -
H&K Red Box equipped amps are brilliant. I have a Tube 50 combo with one fitted. There is very little difference IMO between the DI output and the sound of the speaker mic'd up with an SM57.
-
IMO if the luthier responsible had taken the time used to do all that fancy inlay work to come up with an original guitar shape, I might be more impressed.

Ah… our "German friend". I wish people would stop posting links to all the monstrosities and badly abused instruments he has for sale so that he would finally go out of business and the items would get sold off at sensible prices to people who would be inclined to either restore them or put them out of their misery!

There are two different types of spline shafts - coarse and fine - see here. I suspect that you have the wrong knobs for the spline of your existing pots.

Erm, not getting on with Delano. Any thoughts on a more Super Jazz vibe.
Wouldn't a passive configuration get you closer to a vintage vibe?
That's what I was going to suggest. -
Don't worry about it. IMO finger noise is part of the round wound sound. Besides as others have said once the rest of your band get going you won't be able to hear it.

Selling on eBay, first time in a while - lesson learnt!
BigRedX replied to 1970's topic in General Discussion
There are plenty of offers that cut eBay fees down to almost nothing, you just have to be able to be flexible about when you want to sell stuff. -
IMO I think all of the Italia basses I have seen look so cheap and nasty never tried one though
I've tried most of them at a trade show. IMO they look great from a distance, however on close up you can see the fit and finish isn't particularly good and the "parts-bin" nature of their hardware is a lot more obvious. Playability is OK but I do think that overall you are paying a premium for the unusual looks over what a more conventional designed bass of similar build quality would cost. There are other manufacturers who do the faux vintage instrument look far better such as Hallmark.
I'm most definitely not an expert, but don't the body and neck have date stamps ? If so you could have a December neck and a January the following year body. What year would that bass then be ?
My guess would be that it would be the year of the newest component.

The mobile version (like everything designed to run on a phone) is OK for browsing, but trying to post anything more complex than a couple of sentences of text is simply too time consuming and complicated, so I stick to looking at Basschat on a proper computer.
For essentially the same reason that most complain about eBay.
TBH I've never understood why people complain about the prices of instruments listed on eBay either. Either it's an attractive price to you and you make a bid or you consider it too expensive, move on and wait for one to come up at what you consider to be a more sensible price. Sellers are at liberty to price their items however they want. If it's too high no will buy it.
Can someone please explain to me why anyone would put up a relatively expensive bass for sale (which would attract a commission in the four figure bracket) without making any effort to advertise it anywhere else (as far I can tell).
Try from a phone, it's slow, really badly designed and the navigation behaves like it was designed by someone on ketamine.
Just confused generally, lots of different delivery/collection options. I'll go with UPS as suggested & strangely enough I've had a new bike delivered this morning so I'll get busy with the scissors. Cheers all.
Great. I'd recommend covering over the side with the speakers with at least 2 pieces of card laid out so that the corrugations of one are at 90° to the other for maximum strength.

£50.000 for a flea bass, or work of art
BigRedX replied to timmo's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
You are looking at it all wrong. It's not a bass guitar. It's a Damien Hirst original artwork that happens to be on a Fleabass. As a musical instrument it is virtually worthless, because it is impossible to play without risking damaging the artwork. As a work of art it will only appreciate in value. So if you want an original Damien Hirst then buy it. If you want a bass guitar there's plenty of others that are far more suitable and affordable. -
The smallest proper kick drum I have ever seen belongs to an ex-Terrortone drummer. The whole kit is tiny and the kick drum is a cut-down 16" floor tom shell fitted with kick-drum hardware. He used it once at a multi-band gig in a venue with a very small stage where he was supplying the kit. It was most amusing to watch the drummer from a metal band earlier on the bill struggle to use his double bass drum pedal with it...
