Wem Dominator 45 Bass impedence question
orangepeelneil replied to Christophano's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi, I'd just ring or directly contact the lengendary Charlie Watkins at WEM ( Watkins Electric Music) and ask him. http://www.wemwatkins.co.uk/ 020 8679 5575. He designed and possibly even built the amp, great guy -real character and a real amplifer pioneer. I've a got a 15W valve Dominator bass which has a 16 Ohms Celestion G15M Speaker I think. NOW SOLD, thanks for all the interest Hi Everyone, FOR SALE : TRACE ELLIOT 7210H combo featuring GP7 preamp. 300W RMS (2x10"/HF horn) Combo with GP7 (7 band EQ) pre amplifer. - Made 1998/9 - H:610mm W:610mm D:335mm - Weight 39Kg I've had this about 15 months bought on Basschat. It's served me well,Used for practice twice weekly and a number of gigs. Solid, reliable and versatile I recently bought a new Trace AH500-7 head and TE 410 cab so this is surplus to current needs. - Everything works fine and the amp had a recent service. - It's good condition, used but not abused, - Couple of minor nicks on carpet covering, marks on front grill- but generally good condition, a good example. - I've upgraded the speakers to (x 2) Eminence Gamma 10A (8 Ohm) Speakers. These are wired in parallel (as 4 ohms) so the combo achieves full power without needing an extension speaker. [s]£300[/s] , [s]£275[/s] NOW £250 Collection from Bristol BS3

Rewiring and fusing a speaker cab
orangepeelneil replied to Bass Awkward's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi there, Have you considered a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor or 'POLYSWITCH' ?? There is quite a bit of info on the internet about them. Basically you choose the device based on current rating and I guess parallel them up for increased current rating. They look okay and cheap, I have no experience of them but have used something similar. They will open circuit when the rated current is exceeded and reset when the current is reduced back to a normal level. http://www.jaycar.com.au/images_uploaded/polyswit.pdf http://www.circuitprotection.com/catalog/a...d_(121-124).pdf http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/1...protection.html Cheers Neil -
Hi Huw, I've still got this knocking around for a super cheap and compact two input solution ...just add a suitable compact and efficient speaker and your are away. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=realistic It's 20W and will run off a car battery (possibly run for a few hours- I can check the current consumpsion spec) or off the mains. its a PA amp and did originally have a pair of Tannoy/horns with it, sounds fine with bass, but depends how loud you want to be 20W may not be enough. Cheers Neil

Hi Everyone, Got a nice little Tripletone 'convertible' Class A EL84 Mono Valve amp. I have another one of these, so I thought I'd sell this on. They made these late 60's- early 70's, I guess this a later one having a P.C.B It's a chassis amp with a front panel,The pot and switch shafts are quite long, so you mount the chassis amp a bit from the panel. I was going to make a tube combo, but won't have time now. Tube line up (all Pinnacle tubes) EF80 Pre amp tube EL84 Power tube EZ80 Tube rectifier -It has controls for "ON/OFF", "BASS", "MIDDLE", "TREBLE" and "VOLUME". -The output transformer has taps for 3 and 15 Ohms speakers. -I guess It's around 4-5W output being a single ended EL84 design (plenty loud enough to record/rehearse) -The input is a single RCA phono input,so I've made up a lead with a 1/4 " mono jack socket, to plug a guitar (or bass straight) it. -I've also soldered wires for the 15 Ohm speaker lead. -It has a stock three core mains lead/plug GWO-I tested this with a vintage 12" (15 Ohm) Celestion, using my telecaster and precison bass and it sound good. low noise and plenty of headrooom for practicing. It overdrives nicely at full tilt. You need full Eq to achieve full volume , if that makes sense? Email any queries. £50 delivered or collection from central Bristol BS3 Cheers Neil

Hi there, Yes good topic,my viewpoints have been covered here by others but another point I'd like to make is in my experience instruments don't generally get that tatty quickly..? I had a 94 MIJ Jazz for over 12 years and was my only gigging/rehearsing bass. I played pretty regularly and gigged lots with it , but when I sold it two years ago it was still pretty great condition-hardly a relic... just reasonably used condition. I do look after my instruments and don't carry them round in bin liners (like I have seen!! ) but I don't know how you get that kind of wear on an instrument. You must have to literally gig daily (and who can confess to that) with sandpaper for shirts and aspestos for fingers ...dunno maybe I'm just light with bass ( but don't think so) - even my highway one with the light nitro covering isn't showing much wear after 4 years and I use that weekly...? Cheers Neil

SOLD SOLD SOLD Hi Everyone. For sale 1978 (ish) Fresher Made in Japan Jazz bass, A nice bit of Jap (not so) Crap history Decided to reluctantly sell this bass, as I'm just not using it, and I favour lighter P-basses these days. I bought this bass about 3-4 years ago with dead pickups, noisy pots, a worn nut and no pick guard. I've done a bit of research on Fresher instruments, which is favourable and the decal design on this one is similar to a 1978 bass I found , so I'm suggesting its that’s period (but can be corrected!).I've never seen another Fresher on BC or U.K eBay, only a couple on US eBay and also the Japanese guitar sites. http://www.wutzdog-guitars.de/inventory/in...r-straighter-1/ Condition - The bass is solid (Ash/ sen Ash?) and all works well, it’s a real good player. - It's pretty good condition for a 30+ yr old instrument, has proper mojo. -The bass is well used- but there is plenty of fret life left , in a places the lacquer has worn to the block markers. - Its a 30+ year old bass, so does have dings and knocks, but nothing really major. There is a small crack on the headstock E machine head, plus one on the neck pocket, these seem very stable and from some time ago. -It is a heavy instrument, being solid ash-I can weight ayt some point. Parts/repairs -Someone had already fitted some Gotoh tuners (these seem to be the same footprint of the original tuners- I removed one to check) and a solid Bad**s style bridge which does a good job. -Tom Waghorn (Waghorn guitars) in Bristol installed me a new brass nut checked the set up/intonation which is real good ( will supply receipt). -I replaced the dead pickups with some potted jazz pickups (supplied by Terry aka ‘Loud and Clear’ from Basschat) which do a good job. I also screened the cavities and put in new Japanese pots, even the original jack sockets says Japan! -The scratch plate is an old thing I had lying around. It only lines up with screw holes in a few places and has rough pickup cutout (I recommend a new scratchplate) -though it’s never bothered me. I’ll supply some new screws, I never got round to sourcing a new one. There are also two screws/holes where a bridge cover was. - It's got some recent 40, 60, 80,100 Ernie ball slinky which have lost some zing but work fine. - Supplied with original hard case, which is tidy and complete. Email any queries, cheers Neil £180 + Postage (£15-£20 I guess) or collection from Bristol
