1. Welcome, Eloi! You won't find anyone perfect OR sound here, I'm afraid. Enjoy the forum! Bert
2. There's a thread comparing it in detail with the Aguilar ToneHammer, so my guess is they're comparable.
3. As to creating parts like that, as a guitar player you probably already have what it takes. How about playing that song (or a rough impression of it) in your head, keeping the flow and the character of the melody and chord progression. Immediately or eventually you should be able to hear bass notes that are not too far removed from the type of bass part the original song has. Can you do that? What you do NOT need at this stage is someone telling you what bass parts are possible from a certain theoretical standpoint.
4.
You have to have many backups and Plans B, C, D, E and even F, if you're going to achieve any kind of useful income.
Don't even be shy of Plan F# or Plan Bb . There is a reason we have twelve different notes in every octave!
5. Without knowing your situation, in general I think it's about being available for a very diverse set of things to do, and about contacts. Many tiny bits of income would give survival. Diversity: this could for example mean teaching at different types of schools as well as starting your own teaching institution, being a dep for many kinds of music groups in all kinds of styles, recording sessions ... the works! Contacts: I think contacts must really not be underestimated. (I got a deal once when someone knew that I was working on the exact same music that somebody else needed a dep for.) All the best!
6. Aye, but cheddar's a bit of a marmite thing. Wensleydale? I mean: the whole moon can't be wrong! But yes, those Ricks have a unique look that I just can't stop to love even when it's quite absurd really. ...and that sound! That sound! (given the right fingers and the right equipment of course)
7. Nah! They stink big time. That's why I have only four of them, and am not expecting to ever own more than 72 of these wretched machines. Other than that, Mark is right on the money. I tend to say the opposite of what I mean, just for the lulz. Sigh. You'll get used to us, Kris. That's the best we can offer.
8. My dog says Welcome, so I guess I join in. Welcome! Bert

Hello

Yeah! What that a-hole loser says! Welcome, Cholly. Bert
10. Well, K50, let's just hope the drummer's not too loud then, eh?
11. Welcome, Kris, despite you owning a Music Man! Bert
12. Luvverly! What is it?
13. Yup, four dots as in that it's a Sandberg. A Custom or Anniversary or something like it. I don't have any Sandberg knowledge. Rats, I don't have any bass knowledge!
14.
and can we name that bass?
Yes, we can, roughly. .... (No need to count them dots. There's four of them.)
15. This stinks. I know, because I like it a lot, and it makes me happy.
16.
Anyone know how to pronounce "Lykke Li"? Any help would be much appreciated.
Impossible to write in English, but the most difficult letter here is the "y" in Lykke. I'd say it comes rather close to the "ü" in Blücher (german family name) So, something like Lükah Lee without any form of stress on the "ah" bit. In phonetic, I think the "ah" bit is the roundish capital E that is turned 180 degrees. That said, one would have to have reasonably good knowledge about the phonetic system to come much closer, and also it depends much on whether you say it in her native South-Swedish tongue or in Stockholmese.
17. Thanks for letting me know. I'd actually not realised they are quite vintage sounding. For that I already have the Little Bastard 112s, and I don't need another set. As to transport: same here. Two 112s in the backseat is soo much easier than that old 410. Glad I sold it, and haven't missed it for one second.
18. Thanks. So if I understand correctly, the browser requests a page and downloads it, after which the browser interprets the page's code, and requests the ads that are mentioned. The links to the ads contain a portion that lets the adserver know what site or page this is from so the adserver knows which site to pay. That roughly right? So then BC gets no ad revenue at all when Adblock is on? That, in case, is logical and to be expected, but not good. I'm thinking of small but steady and monthly donations right now rather than a larger one once in a while.
19.
I know that the ads go some way toward covering the running costs of Basschat, but I never realised how much they slow down the site until I spent a couple of weeks working at a client's office, where despite the fact that they had a seriously fast internet connection display of the Basschat pages was considerably slower than on the main browser of my computer at home where I run an Ad-blocking extension.
This is interesting. I'd never noticed a difference between Adblock ON or Adblock OFF, and therefore assumed the ads were downloaded (and were counted) but just discarded. If they're not downloaded, does BC still get revenue for page clicks, or must the individual ad be seen to go to a computer? On my Android tablet, I always get annoying ads for dating services, even though I've never done a search even vaguely in that direction. I love drinking, smoking, porn and violence though, but never seem to get an ad for any of those.
20.
harmonious, aesthetically.
Your words - not mine. Yes, that's them words I should've found but didn't.
Perhaps we should start a new thread - eye-poppingly colourful basses of the world unite!
Wouldn't that be the Music Man Porn Thread? But yes, I like that idea. It's fun to see some wild stuff, like weird basses and eye-poppingly colourful ones, sometimes or often.
21. We don't care! Tell us about Elkie!
22. Man, I wish I could confirm that!
23. Hej, Mo, och välkommen hem! Bert Edit: Yup, many girls here. There's Mark, Steve and Dave, and Endeavour of course, and then there's Bryan, John and Al, and...
24. Wow! I liked that MTD. It gave me the impression of being, for lack of a better word, consistent with itself in the different design elements and use of wood and colour. That Ray, since it's called Tango, does it have Tangerine Pearl as a colour? Different pics of that colour are sooo wildly different that I have no chance of guessing.
25.
See how kind I am by not going back and editing it
Yes, your tha perfec gentle men. Unlike some others - the likes of whom we happily never see on BC, eh?
