1. Hey SuperVee, Welcome! I'm sure you'll fit right in.
pleased to see a great, active forum free of d***heads.
Dunno about that. We sometimes have heating discussions, and then some people soon start insulting: http://basschat.co.u...workshopstudio/ Anyway, enjoy! bert
2.
'sorry, but in the meantime I bought this one.'
Well done!
3. Welcome, Bart! Bert
4.
Don't know why I haven't managed to be here earlier.
Twas those bulky cathode ray tube computer monitors of days yonder! You'd need a double bass case for those.
5.
how does the STM900 compare with an all-valve amp? Does it cut the mustard?
Sorry, I can't answer that. Too little experience. But Muzz seems to talk sense, and better puts to words what I felt: that a ShuttleMax or GBE are very easy to dial with, whereas the Streamliners need you to first get to grips with how they work - meaning that in a shop demo situation, one could easily overlook the power of the front panel. Some experimenting at home should soon make it all clear though. That and the unspeakable thing... (the manual)
6. You're welcome. Also, I just remembered there's someone here from just North of Coylton. I'l dig a little, and will report if I do find him. If not, you could always shout out in General Discussion. Many people seem to read there. Edit: Found them. The guy from Irvine is DanTheMusicman (Daniel). He hasn't been active lately, but in 2012 worked in a music shop in Irvine. Also, in Beith you have Funky Dunky (Duncan). Before you ask: no, I can't do this trick for the whole world. It's just that I tend to notice when people say they're from Ayrshire or thereabouts - as I've been there several times and am quite fond of some folks I know in Coylton.
7.
I had the badge nicked off my Skoda. Work that one out!
It now sits proudly on a Silver Wraith radiator, and the car owner relaxes in the knowledge that the Spirit of Ecstasy is safely at home.
8. But... but... how long is that string angle exactly?
9. Hi H, and welcome to B.A.! Enjoy our company! (oh, and our twelve step program) bert
10. Exactly my point. Take the 900 now. You can always sell it again without too much loss. BTW and FWIW, I asked Mark (that other one) to send me the best sounding one of the 600 and 900, and he chose the 900. I assume the extra headroom does a Class D good.
11. Hey Terry, Welcome! I'm pretty sure there's another guy from Kilmarnock and one from Irvine or thereabouts on BC. There's certainly one from Greenock, but that may be stretching it a little seeing as how close Glasgow is to you. Anyway, shout out and someone will certainly answer. Enjoy the bass! bert (another noob) Edit: Dub Junkie is from Kilmarnock, and Biskitbass is from South Lanarkshire. You could PM them.
12. Hey Allie, Welcome! I hope your sleeping in the Westone's case was comfy for you, and didn't do any damage to the bass. Enjoy the banter! bert
13. Yeah, but can it be so much cheaper than a Streamliner 600 or even than a 900? I think the Veyron T model may go for 500 quid.
14.
fnarr-fnarr (cont. p94)
I'm looking forward to page 94! Shame we're only on page 2.
has Behringer cloned the Streamliner yet??
No, they haven't. They use reddish LEDs instead of blue ones:
15. Aye! Something that's 2x and also loud is 2x810! Ideal for you! Seriously though, it all depends on the type of sound you're after. I would normally choose the cabs I want, and then find the amp that will drive them, but this is me being not a bassist. The F1 is somewhat neutral, unlike MarkBass's own cabs. I like the MarkBass cabs, but many do not. 250 quid should enable you to land a second hand MarkBass 102P which IMS is quite a punchy little feller. Genz Benz must be mentioned again, as their last cabs go for peanuts at GAK and Bass Direct. Other than that, if you tell us something about what type of sound you're after, or what types of music you play and where you play it, it will be easier to come up with ideas about a £250 cab. For that amount you could get a relatively loud cab of simple pedigree, or less noise of higher quality, so some narrowing down is required. On the one hand you have these old fashioned, lazy speakers with limited bandwidth. On the other hand you have those that aspire a near perfect representation of the original signal. Unscientifically, I tend to divide sound ideals in Old Skool (like Ampeg SVT), Hi-Fi (like Vanderkley) and Signature (like Gallien Krueger), but more experience people on here will probably think differently.
16. Ah! That's another BC issue. Not all your content will show up in My Content, and new content on old threads belonging in My Content will not show up on the first page of My Content despite the new content being ... like ... new ... It's just one of those things. The forum software is not perfect.
17. From what I read on this issue, it most probably has not vanished at all. Most probably, you did a search for it, and it just didn't turn up as a result. Try again later, and it probably will be "back". Hope this helps. If however you didn't do a search, then I don't know the answer.
18.
What is this thing 'status updates'?
I think it's the "What's on your mind" field that is in the pull down menu when you click your login name on the top right of a BC page. Apparently, it's also in people's profile. Edit: yup, it is. I've done the science just now.

Hi

Welcome, Si! bert
20.
I'm probably missing a trick here; why would anyone want to ask advice where it won't be seen easily..? Searchable or not; who would know what to search for..? Slightly puzzled. Is there a particular example you can give, or am I blind to something obvious..?
My guess is people ask for advice in their status update because the newest status updates are on the right hand side of the BC front page. I guess people see it as an often seen part of BC, and as an effective way of getting their question read by others. Dunno though. At any rate, if you have a look there, you can see several recent "threads" where people have asked about stuff to buy, and they have received answers too. Now this is not a problem for me, but I was thinking maybe BC is "better" if questions and given advice stay searchable by being placed in regular threads. Does that answer your question?
21. Yup, they exist, and pix have been published on here recently. But it's adding weight, and we don't like weight, so I thought that in cases where a wide strap with neoprene or similar isn't enough, that one could have some artificial "sealskin" on the inside of the strap. That should give more than enough resistance, as the "hairs" will point "towards the upper horn" so to speak. I'm gonna try that myself, and will report.
22. Just had a thought: When people ask for advice in their status update, then the given advice isn't searchable, is it? If so, wouldn't it be better to make sure this stuff is searchable by using regular threads for this? I know some people will just ask without searching, but others would probably search for threads they "know" to exist first, only to not find what they remembered. In case, I think that it's a drawback. One of the great BC features seems to me to be the searchable info. Opinions?
23.
This pro band, I discovered, are being paid £550 "expenses". Can you guess my answer?
In that case: "MiBass £550" maybe? (...if not, you could always mention the Carlsbro Stingray.)
24. Good example: Bad example: and IMHO of course. I feel gold on black can sometimes be OK. Gold on black plus yet another colour though is a different matter.
