1. Sadly, what most of you fail to grasp is that low slung is way more ergonomic! One just has to hold one's fretting hand _above_ the neck instead. ;-)
2. Do DHL operate in the UK? I can't remember having seen a mention. Here in Norway they are the ones that have given me the best experiences by far, as in delivering to my home on time and proactively asking me to check the package before signing. Class! UPS however consistently make false claims about delivery attempts, either locally or centrally in Oslo, and those delivery attempts are always at the same time as they hand the package over to the postal system, meaning that the package will be delayed AND I'll have to fetch it even though I've paid for door-to-door. I try to avoid them, but most of the time it's up to the sender.
3. Thanks! In my wish list as well.
4.
I've never understood why they are so hostile to sellers - it's the sellers who provide their profits.
Maybe it's like this: the buyers provide the money, and have the freedom to use that money wherever they want. The sellers who still use eBay are the ones who need eBay - making them the perfect victims for eBay's bending them over forwards. Dunno really but it sounds like they may be thinking along those lines these days.
5.
M2000 is not a valve amp. It has a valve pre-amp and MOSFET (solid state) power stage. It'll be fine with 8-ohms though you'll get a reduced maximum power output. It most situations I doubt that you'll notice the difference from a similar 4-ohm cab.
This of course is very true, but it may stop the thread. To keep the thread running to and fro, I think it's best if we adopt the notion that the Ashdown ABM 410T is a valve cab! (Sorry, ATSbassman, I couldn't resist. OBBM is right, but I just found it funny how the thread developed, and the initial, wrong, answers became correct after all.)
6. Hey Andy, Welcome! Stay with JESTER. Do NOT - I repeat: do NOT - leave them and join a band called Noo. Enjoy the site! best, bert
7. There exists an incredibly effective stretching technique that we teach sea kayak paddlers, as numb leg and pins&needles are life threatening to them. Could you PM me so I remember to try and find a drawing or a good description of it?
8.
I am really not a people person in general but I have met 2 basschatters from here now and I enjoyed it I now regard those people as personal friends and think very highly of them as they have made me realise the real world may not be such a bad place lol
This is sooo great to read! People on the Gentle Giant e-mail list On-Reflection say the same stuff, and unsurprisingly, BC and On-Reflection have a lot in common.
9.
Great post.
Thank you, good sir! Surprising, but much appreciated.
10. First: never, ever listen to parents and the likes if their ideas about your life seem to be about steady incomes and security and that kind of stuff. You'll always regret later. Then it's better to have tried and to have been proven wrong. I don't know whether my reasons are interesting to you, but just in case: The choice to not pursue a career in music took almost two years to make, as a joint decision between me and my wife. She'd accepted becoming a musician's wife, so that element was not involved, and we lived off my income as a musician for some three years. But we'd moved from the culture city of Rotterdam to a rural area in Norway, and found life there was better. My music career would demand moving to Oslo - another "big" city. We decided the totally of living ruraly was worth giving up a music career for. We loved the notion that walking in the forests or swimming in the sea were options that cost no money, and were right at our doorsteps. Oslo would mean using money for the tram, bus, museum, concert .... whatever. Another aspect was of more psychological nature. I feared my being a composer would reduce me as a husband or father. I've known "all my life" that if I met a nice girl, I'd probably have to give up a career in art - even if not giving up a career in music. I trust this doesn't go for most people, but I do believe it was a valid point in my case.
11. You have a bank balance? Luxury! In MY days...
12. Thank you so much for doing this! It's a bloody fantastic initiative that one can only hope is appreciated enough. That is all.
13. Wow! 300 seems like a great price! Last time I borrowed a tenor sax, I practised in bed, under the douvet (sp?). Kept the cat unaggressive. These days my dog is critical of my bass playing. Dirty rotten scoundrel! As to the topic, for years a local music shop has owed me a tremolo arm. Each and every time I go there to ask about it, I forget it the moment I cross the treshold and eye shiny objects. That demm thing must have cost me a million.
14.
I went back to the office after lunch with a nice, shiny, brand new saxophone.
I am sorry for your loss. My condolences also to the family. (In all seriousness, a nice, shiny, brand new saxophone is a lot cooler than a set of strings for your acoustic - provided of course that the saxophone has that nice little extra bend near the mouth piece that makes it a tenor. In fact I was studying-to-buy one yesterday, but the price flabbergasted me slightly. For those 800 quid one could buy a bass!!! )
15. I disagree. "Something Simple" does not identify you at all, and could be all of us. No, you need something defining. But the CL is tons more cute than the pic I saw of it locally. I think it may look better than the VR. Thanks for the info. Hadn't realised about one being 4 Ohm and the other 8 Ohm. Not that I think it's important for home use. All we now need is a pic of your miking up the thing that is on top! (I'm sure you've seen that classical pic)
16. Hahaha! Fantastic! Are the < and > legal? BTW, OBT, don't forget to let us know how the stack sounds, eh?
17. Hey Dave, Welcome, man! You're doing fine already, so should have no problem in getting to be a part of this, which is quite a feat in fact, as we tend to look down on people from the British isles, and treat them with suspicion. Oh... wait!!! Enjoy the fora! bert
18. Congrats! Decided on a new user name yet? Simply CLASSIC maybe?
19. When not being in a band, I just noodle at home, Developing The Shape Of Music To Come. Inbetween, I try to learn to hold the bass. When I know how to do it, I plan on getting a teacher to show me where my fingers need to be. That's it really.
20. Whilst I feel your requirements scream Shuttle(Max) or similar heads, I have the feeling your being bored is not necessarily gonna be cured by them. After all, the Shuttles and EBSs are on the same planet as the LM - if I understand correctly that is. How much change from the sound of the LM are you asking for? If you want a lot of change, you might even be served better by heads like the Streamliner, ToneHammer or those gritty Gallien Kruegers.
21. My take is that I believe Mark can be trusted to have your interests at heart, and to sell you the right stuff. He will have strong opinions, yes. I like it that way, and have bought two amps from him as a direct result of it. Will be a returning customer later as well. Though I'm very respectful of a few less than wonderful experiences that some BC members have had with the shop, I think it's best to enter the dialogue with positive expectations. Mark deserves it, I think. I did, and am glad that I did. In general I think it's a good idea to make an appointment, or you risk that he concentrates on another customer who does have an appointment.
22. From what I remember, the Micro CL is not that highly regarded, and I think there has been mention of lacking build quality. The more expensive VR with 210 stack seemingly is a better choice. I don't know whether I read it here or on other fora, but you could do a search. Personally I've instead gone for the Orange Micro Terror with two PPC 108 cabs. That stack is cheaper than the CL stack (at least here in Norway), and does the work with vigour. Lurv it, and it got very favourable reviews too. As a side note, the Crush series seems not that highly regarded from what I read on BC, but that may be mostly due to the build quality.
23.
switched mode psus are the way PCs are powered. and therefore the internet, and therefore BassChat... :-)
Aye. BC indeed is next to impossible to diagnose problems with.
